  This is sooo beautiful to me the purple and blue. They gave me all the tools and extra screws I needed to customize my joycons. The feel is so smooth. The shell is compatible like it’s supposed to be. The size of all buttons and pieces are accurate. The quality is amazing. Definitely ordering more things from them.   Title. If you have a favorite color that isn't already offered as an offical Joycon colorway, or have any inkling of persuasion to be unique and let your stuff stand out from others, then you're doing yourself a disservice by not getting a custom shell.eXtremeRate offers a fantastic selection of aesthetically pleasing colors that, for the most part, all go together quite nicely, so it's hard to go wrong if you want to mix and match. I had a hard time deciding between various combinations of white, heaven blue, sakura pink, and light violet. The only suggestion for improvement I have in terms of the selection here is that I wish you could buy the halves separately, as duo-tone Joycons are kind of the precedent set by Nintendo.Quality is top-notch. While the shell and buttons do have a different texture than OEM, they feel every bit as sturdy and are virtually identical to official Joycons. The internals fit perfectly and lined up with every notch and screw hole during the shell swapping operation. The aforementioned different texture on these is just slightly more rubbery/silicone-y, but not at all like the sticky or friction-y kind that picks up all the lint as soon as it touches your pocket lining; I consider it an improvement over the original.While this has nothing to do with the product itself, assembly is pretty dang hard. I wish it were as simple as just unscrewing the plastic case and putting on a new one, but you have to disassemble pretty much the whole controller and migrate multiple layers of parts into the new shells. It's not exaggerating at all when people say expect it to take 3-5 hours for your first try! Fortunately the kit includes the two kinds of screwdriver needed, though it goes by easier if you have your own higher-quality tools.I wouldn't say there is much risk of damaging your Joycons as long as you're careful, have the right tools, and follow a tutorial. Some skills you will need that I would have prepared my past self for: unscrewing some of the outside screws without stripping them (fortunately the kit includes replacement screws that are Philips head instead of tri-wing); pulling out and re-plugging in ribbon cables (you'll absolutely need steady hands and some tweezers or needle-nose pliers), and possibly having to click certain pieces into place like LEGO.Those hours of work paid off, and I'm in love with how they turned out! Definitely way more attached to my Switch now that it has a custom shell and Joycons. I'm honestly tempted to buy an extra set of Joycons or two just to do more custom colorways and mix them around; we'll see. In the meantime, I absolutely recommend getting some for yourself. Shell swapping made out to be a fantastic DIY project that's ultra rewarding and satisfying in the end and really helps make your Switch feel like your own.Ver másVer menos

  Looked great

  I bought this quite a few years back, leaving a review now as I forgot to do so initially. It looks amazing. The Matte finish with the scarlet red color looked amazing, after some time passed (years) the surface eventually started degrading with the top layer peeling off, its expected to be honest, but considering how long it lasted before that started to take place, I still rate the product very highlyVer másVer menos

  These are awesome! But know what you are getting into

  I love this color! The material is fantastic, these shells feel great if not better than the Nintendo ones.I did not like having the same blue and red joycon colors as everyone else, or that my joycons were not the same color. This is a great way to customize your console.The only hurdle and drawback to these custom shells is the hurdle of installing them. I have an iFixit toolkit and 3-4 phones repair experience but this was the most challenging to work on out of all that I've done because of all the small parts and tight spaces. The provided video by the seller is just someone doing the repair but really sped up, no commentary but rather abnoxious music lol. There are MANY comments I saw on that video of people saying they stripped their joycon screws using the provided screwdrivers. The triwing screws Nintendo uses are so easily strippable I highly recommend purchasing a good triwing screwdriver, I used the Y00 bit in my iFixit kit. Also, when I was almost done with the right joycon my "Y" and "B" buttons were very hard to press and had a very loud click. I had to open it back up and move the squishy rubber behind the buttons into place so if the buttons feel weird just check on that :)Repair took me around 3 hours, there were some moments where my joycon was so toredown that I wondered if I'd even be able to put it back together but it was a very rewarding experience because of that.Also, I didn't understand why there were a full set of replacement buttons. The Nintendo ones have noticably better quality than the provided ones so I used those, but the inside bumpers sr/sl are colored blue and red so I switched those out and recommend you do the same.If you think replacement shells are for you, definitely buy them from eExtremerate, good luck!Ver másVer menos

  Simple, but be patient!

  The kit itself is 5 stars- the shells are nice quality, it comes with a screwdriver, extra screws & springs, and replacement buttons. I'd recommend getting a second screwdriver & precision pliers before swapping your shells.Doing the shell swap is easy. It's getting the 4 initial black screws out that's a pain in the ass. I was very careful but wound up stripping 3 and had to drill them out. All the screws on the inside of my controllers were a breeze, and as long as you follow a video the shell swap should only take you an hour or two. But those little black screws on the outside of the shell were screwed in there with the force NASA uses to build rocketships. Be prepared with a solution for teeny-tiny stripped screws before you undertake this project. Another tip: Be aware of the direction the release trigger buttons are in! I had to take apart one of the controllers and shift the button because it was facing the wrong direction, and wouldn't latch to my Switch.Otherwise, the shell swap is great! My Switch is so cute now ✨️ All the pieces fit perfectly and the texture is nice. This was my first time doing something like this and I found it pretty straightforward!Ver másVer menos
