* * * Does not work with ARM processor! * * *

I bought this printer to replace an HP printer that was a hassle to connect to. I wanted a printer that would 1) handle legal-size paper, 2) print in color and b&w, 3) print double-sided/duplex, and 4) connect easily: "Just work". Without all those hassles of finding the right drivers, dealing with TCP/IP addresses, etc. And of those 4 requirements the last one - "easy connect" was the most important to me.To my horror I find that the printer simply can't/won't connect to my brand-new laptop which has an ARM processor. I can't use it at all!The problem in specific: Canon does not provide drivers for Windows 11 that work with a computer that uses and ARM processor.I understand loyalty to Intel and the x64 architecture. I'm partial to Intel myself, having worked for the company. I've been buying "Intel inside" for decades. But this time I'm going to travel some, and my use cases are different now. So to pick my PC I quickly researched available offerings and chose one that can run on battery for more than 24 hours. Which is great. My whole way of working has subtly changed, now.For whatever reason Canon fails to support this type of PC. Note to Canon: This type of PC is becoming increasingly popular, and, certain users (like me) with certain needs (like mine) will chose a PC with ARM architecture. Actually a certain type of "power user" will make this choice. (The ARM chip in my PC isn't particularly fast at performing computations, but there is a different kind of "power" in the ability to work for long periods without needing to be recharged.)The AI helper I queried about this says that the problem is well-known. Well, if it's well-known then Canon should fix it! This is more than a problem of just a missing printer driver. This is a problem with the Canon company/corporation itself. An effective, high-quality company is supposed to keep its eye on usage - and especially failures, "failure conditions", "failure modalities" out in the field. And then respond. In this case what Canon should do is write (or really, adapt) printer drivers that support the ARM architecture.There are many resources on-line that suggest various solutions to this problem. Using arcane terms and abbreviations that I have never heard of, or barely heard of. "Solutions" of the nature of "Go to menu X and do Y" but when you go to that menu you find several options, none equivalent to whatever the "solution" is telling you to do. None of the "solutions" work; they all end in failures of various kinds. I find myself back in "printer setup h**l" which is why I ditched my old HP printer that was famous for this kind of hassle. In other words the very thing I wanted most, this printer and this company fail to provide.I would give this printer 2 stars because - other than its complete failure to connect and print - it seems reasonably high-quality, though it's early days and I don't know how well it will hold up. Also my wife is able to connect to it from/using her computer (an older model, not ARM) and "happy wife, happy life".However, the Canon company's failure to do the right thing (write printer drivers that work with ARM-architecture) is downright offensive. They are being stupid and rude. This problem was predictable - it isn't like ARM architecture is new. ARM laptops run around 20% of shipments nowadays "According to data from market intelligence firms like TechInsights and Counterpoint Research". Canon should have kept this problem from happening in the first place.Therefore I rate this printer with 1 star.
