A Long-Term Perspective: One Year with the Ultimea Poseidon D80
After a full year of daily use, I felt it was time to share my thoughts on the Ultimea Poseidon D80. To provide some context, I live with a disability that affects my hearing, so I typically don’t consider myself the primary target audience for high-end audio equipment. However, drawn in by the competitive price point and a solid wave of positive user feedback, I decided to give this system a try. I am very glad I did.Reliability and EfficiencyFirst and foremost, this system has been remarkably reliable. In an era where tech often requires constant troubleshooting, I have encountered absolutely no technical issues over the past twelve months. One of my favorite features is its energy efficiency; the system is designed to power down naturally shortly after the TV is turned off. It’s a small "quality of life" detail that provides peace of mind, especially if I accidentally leave it running after a long day.Performance and the "Star Trek" TestWhile I initially didn't focus much on the surround sound features, the setup process through both the physical remote and the mobile app was incredibly intuitive. The actual performance, however, is what truly surprised us.We recently had a moment while watching an episode of Star Trek that perfectly illustrated the system's quality. My father, who was sitting nearby, kept turning around, convinced that the "door knocking" sound effects in the show were actually me working at my desk behind him. The spatial audio was so crisp and well-placed that it created a genuine sense of immersion, blurring the line between the media and the room itself.Ease of Use and Future PlansThe "plug and play" nature of the D80 makes it accessible for anyone, regardless of their technical background. It supports virtually every connection type you might need, and the Ultimea app UI is exceptionally user-friendly.Because of the hardware's consistent reliability and the software's ease of use, I am now looking into getting a dedicated Ultimea surround sound setup for my new desktop workstation. Way more capable than its price would suggest.
Preliminary impression is extremely positive, you just have to know what to expect from what is essentially a glorified soundbar. This system far exceeds my expectations so far; if that changes, I'll come back and update this review.First of all, what it's not:- This is not a room-shaker- This is not a window rattler- This is not a home theater in a box- There are no up-firing speakers with this system, nor the ability to add them- Your typical soundbarIf that's what you're looking for, you WILL be disappointed by this system. Keep reading, though, because that might only be what you THINK you're looking for.Here's what this system IS:- Extremely flexible and easy to set up- Extremely easy to configure for a very pleasing theater experience- A quite competent solution for enhancing music, movies, and gaming without breaking the bank- Able to be set up in a way that compensated for the lack of up-firing speakers- More than capable of filling my 12x16 room with soundIf you have neighbors and lack a sound-insulated dedicated theater room, you probably don't need more than this. If what I wrote above makes sense to you, you will very likely be happy with this system.My setup:Front and back walls are 12ft, side walls are 16ftCeiling-mounted projector providing a 95" 16:9 display centered at eye level for seated viewing at a distance of 7ftSoundbar (L, R, and center) mounted 14" below and 26" behind lower edges of screenSide speakers mounted 18" on center from side walls, just below the vertical center of and 10" behind the screenRear speakers mounted on rear wall, 12" on center from side walls and 8" on center from ceilingSubwoofer situated in right rear corner of the room, raised 35" off the groundDue to how Dolby Atmos content is (typically at least -- your mileage may vary depending on the content in question) mixed, most higher-positioned sounds are panned more toward the rear and lower-positioned sounds are pushed toward the center channel. This is, in equal parts, down to how our ears perceive sound in a 3D environment and to accommodate Atmos systems with up-firing speakers, which angle toward the rear of the room (the latter being a design decision taking the former into account). That psycho-acoustic reality is precisely what my setup takes advantage of and replicating my setup as closely as you can will give you a very convincing Dolby Atmos setup using this system. For 5.1 and 7.1 non-Atmos content, the same setup will give you a very Atmos-like (but not quite) experience.For $300, with an understanding of what you're getting and some careful setup and installation, you won't be disappointed by this system AT ALL. If you find it on sale (I found it for $230) you really can't go wrong picking this up.

True Bang for your Bucks!
Setup was very easy! The tags identifying what cords go to what speakers was especially helpful. Regarding sound, the quality is beyond amazing once you setup the equalizer properly. The music/movie button is helpful, but do note that it is imperative to press the Xupmix button. If you don’t, you will not be as impressed with the sound quality.The bass is surprisingly booming at 50 throughout the house. 100 would be perfect if you’re having a movie night and have the surround sound structured properly in your room. You must use the Xupmix here as well to spread the love across the system properly!As for the sound quality regarding the Dolby Atmos, I recommend using eArc and the cord it comes with. I tried a higher end hdmi I bought from Best Buy and was forced to return it and use the factory cord due to the stark difference in Atmos compatibility.The immersive sounds for the movies we have watched and music we’ve jammed makes me say that this buy was an A+. This is the third ULTIMEA system we’ve purchased and each one has been better than the previous version.The D80 is better than the newer ones with more wattage too, so know that if you are looking for budget friendly and top dollar quality then this is your system!Ver másVer menos

Good sound at a great value
Overall, this setup is great for my apartment. The setup was a breeze; I had it up and running within 20 minutes. The subwoofer was paired to the main bar right out of the box and has not lost connection to date. The sound quality is great. My only negative is that the left, center, and right drivers in the main bar are too close together, in my opinion. The front sounds can get a bit muddled. If the main bar were wider and the drivers spaced out a little more, that would be better. In conclusion, using my own rating system, I would give it a 90+ out of 100. Sure you could spend more for better sound, but for me, this system checks all the boxes.Ver másVer menos

Simple, affordable, and effective
This system was very easy to setup thanks to the good packaging and instruction. The optional companion app is also handy for tweaking things if the remote is not handy! Also I used it to tune the sound profile, which was very helpful and allowed me to obtain excellent quality beyond what I expected at this price point.I mounted the back speakers on my wall and placed the side speakers on some shelf lamps. It worked well and looked nice both before and after I mounted my TV on the wall. The wireless subwoofer attached to back speakers is a godsend for ease of setup, and it magically paired on power on.I originally set it up with an eARC HDMI output from my smart TV, which indeed provided excellent Dolby surround for streaming as well as 4k Blu-ray (from an Xbox in my case). The sound is clear and separated, which makes the system particularly pleasing for playing video games, with effects and voices emitted with pinpoint accuracy.My smart TV had some issues consistently performing pass through via eARC, so I later switched to a classic optical input, still with good results and no fuss.Overall, this is a quality system with powerful, full surround features with the low price and trivial setup complexity of a sound bar.Ver másVer menos

Good Price / Bad support & Product
The product looks good and sounds good when it works. The sound bar keeps disconnecting from the TV. I have tried various cables but doesn't resolve the issue. Customer support is difficult to get a live agent on the phone. It took 10 phone calls to get a hold of someone. Their advice was basic instructions, try other cable, restart, reset, all of what I had already done. Good price, but bad customer service and product. It is not fully wireless. Two front speakers connect to center soundbar by wire and two back speakers connect to bass subwoofer by wire. Returning product.Ver másVer menos
