Substantially better quality Internet

Upgrading to the Netgear Nighthawk modem-router combo has completely transformed my internet experience—it truly feels like a night-and-day difference compared to the reused router that was issued by my internet service provider. With the old router, I was constantly battling slow speeds, lag during online activities, and the frustrating buffering of streaming services. Those problems are now a thing of the past.The Nighthawk has far exceeded my expectations in terms of both performance and reliability. The speed and consistency it delivers are remarkable. Whether I’m streaming in high definition, gaming online, or running multiple devices at the same time, the connection remains strong and smooth without interruptions. Pages load instantly, videos stream flawlessly, and downloads finish much faster than before.What really stands out is the stability. I no longer have to reset the router or deal with the random drops in connection that used to plague me with the old equipment. The Nighthawk has proven to be reliable day after day, even under heavy usage.Overall, this modem-router combo is absolutely living up to the high standards Netgear is known for. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

This is a great modem/Wireless Access Router. It replaced 3 components on my network and now I have more than triple the speed!I used to have a 7 MB per second Internet connection as that's all I could afford. I bumped up my account to 75 MB's for an additional $10 per month with Xfinity (Of course we ALL know that $10 will most likely turn out to be more!) So when I bumped it up to 75 MB’s, I still was only getting about 15 MB's per second speeds. I did some re-configuring and was able to get the speed up to about 25 MB's.I chatted with Xfinity support (Much better than calling!) and they said my Surfboard S6120 modem was EOL (End of Life) and they didn't support it anymore. (I had purchased this about 6 years ago) So I thought that made sense so I bought this one after doing some research (I actually wanted the newer Surfboard modem/router combo but it was out of stock) so this was the 2nd choice.It took only minutes to install and once I had the other two wireless access points powered down and removed I did a test using the wired connection and I had over 120 MB's per second! But the real test was how would it do using the wireless connections….it was 117 MB's! BLAZING FAST! Remember, I’m only paying for 75 MB’s per second, so this was a VERY pleasant surprise!I was able to remove 3 devices; the old surfboard modem, the old Buffalo router/AP device and a cheap EnGenius AP wireless device and get better speed and coverage with ONE BOX!My 'only' concern is it does appear to get fairly warm and of course at first I noticed a distinct electronics smell for the 1st few hours but believe it has dissipated and I no longer notice it. Or...I've just gotten used to it.. ;-)Here’s another reason I went with Netgear: When I looked at the reviews compared to some of the other devices I compared it to, if there were any negative reviews, Netgear tech support (or maybe it's sales) would reply to the negative review and ask them to contact them which I took as a good sign, as many of the other devices that had negative reviews had no reply back from the manufacturer, so good on Netgear for at least 'appearing' to care, but so far I've not had any reason to contact them.At this point I would highly recommend this device. (And I haven’t even talked about the interface, and the Guest network, and how the lower frequency penetrates walls easier and gives great throughput vs. the higher frequency, and then there’s the USB ports that you can share data on or even a printer, I could go on and on…) but I’ll just say…DO IT! And no, I’m not being paid for this review, I’m just a normal consumer who got a great product for….eh..an okay price. (I do wish it was a bit cheaper, but I guess because it’s electronics we expect it to be less, but in this case, you do GET what you pay for, and it’s great!)Thanks.Ver más

2017: All Around Excellence!

So many reviews and ratings on here all over the place, had me very skeptical reading for hours and looking at different versions/brands and options etc. Very overwhelming but being most familiar with Netgear, the features, and this looking the best in my opinion of all the Modem/Routers to choose from online within $200... I took the chance knowing in general most liked their Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Modem/Router. Mine came new as expected, looks amazing, set up easy(set up with provider seemless, had to call them, very quick and easy), and the coverage is the best range and most solid connection I've ever had! Router settings online are a breeze and no matter whether using our Samsung S7 phones for any HD wifi content, or Samsung 4K Netflix/YouTube, or PS4 Pro gaming... Including any combination of all at once with our consumer higher tier 10mb per sec internet, no issues. It's fast, noticeably quick, zero lag - not even once with many hours online gaming so far into it(PC & PS4 Pro), and I'm as happy as one could be. To top it off, I'm now saving $12mo with my Internet Provider since I have my own which is another main factor.The often and very annoying lags, interuptions, disconnects, and poor loading times are all gone as if they never existed. I had a great gaming-class Netgear Router before which had no issues but to pair with the Provider Modem was very awful. While it was a newer modem and in general wasn't too shabby, all the provider can do is keep replacing and replacing with the same garbage but it is what it is - And this AC1900 is the best experience and reliability I've ever had. Glad I took the risk and came out a winner on this!Ver más

The ultra-slow UI renders it complete junk

After spending years with Verizon and tolerating endless rate hikes, the Rubicon was finally crossed when my bill went over $200 even with a single set top DVR for the whole house. I decided to switch to Comcast Xfinity using a promotion for new customers. Naturally, I did not want to pay a ridiculous modem rent of $10/month (recovered in less than a year for the top-of-the-line modem or in less than two years even with the purchase of the most sophisticated hybrid modem/router device). While I had my natural reservations about hybrid devices, the desire to have a single, 802.11ac-capable box dominated, and I purchased NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 just days prior to my Xfinity installation.Naturally, I decided to pre-configure the router to have everything up and running. Besides setting up the WiFi networks (2.4 and 5 GHz) I had to set up fixed IP addresses for the home NAS and my VOIP OBI 202 SIP telephony box (PhonePower is the provider), and also configure port forwarding to make incoming/outgoing VOIP calls. To summarize, nothing too special, it's a relatively straightforward and typical configuration, but I HAD TO CONFIGURE SOMETHING.And that ruined all the experience. One reviewer has already noted that the device UI was slow, but I did not pay attention, not expecting it to be that SLOW! In reality when I started setting up port forwarding rules it took the device a good MINUTE to save a single rule and return to the port forwarding screen. I even thought that it got a system error and got stuck while waiting...Understanding that with this level of responsiveness I will simply crush it with a hammer before completing the setup, I reset the device, put it back in the box and initiated a return. I didn't have a chance to try its WiFi capabilities, but I simply could not tolerate NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 while having an "old" ASUS AC-68U router at home! The ASUS has a great UI (while the Netgear has a mediocre one) and its response time is almost immediate. As far as the "old" ASUS also supports 802.11ac and does it perfectly, supporting a couple dozen wireless and a number of wired devices without any problems for weeks. And ASUS is still releasing firmware updates for it...As a result, I ended up with purchasing a top-of-the-line Arris modem for Comcast (around $110) and using the ASUS AC-68U as a router. The combo works great after more than a month, and with Xfinity Blast Internet I am steadily getting speedtest.net measurements above 200 Mbps for downloads and around 12 Mbps for uploads (limited by Comcast).To summarize, this is my advice: If you have to get a modem for Comcast Xfinity or other such provider, just purchase the top-of-the-line Arris Surfboard for around $100 and use a separate 802.11ac-compatible router from a trusted, reliable brand like ASUS. Stay away from junk Negear UI, and from combo devices in general...

Returning it but here is why I gave it a good rating

My story is a little different in that I may end up returning the product but I will give it a good rating. Let me explain in hopes that this review will help out other reviewers who have encountered similar problems.-- Before I Purchased the EquipmentI read nearly every review that I could. I was well aware of some of the issues. But what won me over was how the NetGear customer service team really owned the issues and asked the customers to respond to them. This was far better than the experience I've had with Time Warner/Spectrum cable.--Before Buying My Cable ModemMy issue was that my internet was undependable. I'd see speeds go from 100 to 20 with my default cable modem rental. A friend suggested that I try another modem as that is often a cause of it. Keeping in mind that I am paying for an Ultimate 300 MB/s package and I can never get over 100, you see the frustration -- especially when your job involves heavy downloading. So, after multiple calls to the cable service provider, I purchased the modem.--The Initial Speed Results...After spending all day with the cable company getting it connected, I was surprised to find it running even slower than before. Furthermore, I could no longer stream content like movies from YouTube or Nextflix. I reached out immediately to Netgear support to see if there was anything they could do before I returned the modem.--NetGear Support..It took 45 minutes on hold to reach support but I waited (be nice if there was a call back). Finally, I reached support. I was surprised by the quality. The Netflix support engineer walked me through the diagnostics and she taught me how to read noise and power. The logs showed low power (dbmvs were too low at -13 when they should have been around -10), high noise, and lots of packet dropping on one of the channels. Interestingly, I began to suspect that the problem was either my electrical power or something with the Cable company and an electrician.--Call to the Cable Company...I called the cable company and was surprised that none of them could see the same diagnostics. I spoke with Level 3 (the highest tier) of support. They were surprised when I read the values to them. They understood the values and were knowledgeable but none of the Level 3 people's systems included the level of depth that my Netgear router included. Time Warner/Spectrum decided to send someone out to my house. I also was proactive by scheduling an electrician before the visit.--The Electrician.The electrician came out and looked at all my volts, rating the power as excellent (122 to 125), and told me that electricity from my house was definitely not the problem for as small as a unit such as the Netgear cable modem.--The Time Warner/Spectrum TechnicianThis is where it got interesting. He completely rewired everything from my house to the outside connection. Time and time again, his system would show everything was fine but we would test the speed and get less than 100. We tried things out with my old Time Warner/Spectrum Modem and the Netgear Modem. While the old Time Warner Modem showed nothing, my Netgear Modem detected the issues.Eventually, he put his system down and started looking at the diagnostic screen from the Netgear Modem. We both realized that the Netgear diagnostics were more accurate than what the Time Warner/Spectrum team had (and they owned their network)!!!!--And here is where it gets interesting..Finally, he called one of the backend Time Warner/Spectrum engineers while I was there. He read the values that my Netgear system was giving. The backend Engineer asked for a few moments and checked his system. He came back and said that indeed, the diagnostics showed a "node" failure within the area but that they cannot pinpoint it. To get the speeds that they are getting, the cable providers have been switching to clustered nodes which increases the speed but makes it much harder to pinpoint the exact source of the issue. It appears as though the "speed arms race" has offset the gains with speed with much higher instability as cable providers rush to up the speeds for keeping customers. In other words, the networks are not as stable as they were previously.So, they told me a week ago that they would get back to me when they discovered the problematic node. I haven't heard anything back.I learned one other scary thing. A lot of these cable providers set the speed per a channel. So, if you get 24 channels, you can go up to ultimate 300 but to go to the newly coming ultimate 500, you have to have 32 channels even if the cable modem is capable of going a lot faster. So, it's important to check your default speed per a channel with your provider because there is a race to get up to 1GB currently which will involve a lot of channels.This made my 24 channel modem obsolete... in that ultimate 500 is coming out which requires more channels than this modem as currently 24 channels will only support Ultimate 300.So what is the story here.. why only 4 stars..The good..----------* Well, the good was the diagnostics.. I had better diagnostics than the internal Level 3 Spectrum technicians.* The features are so awesome -- you can see who is causing wireless contention and even change the wireless channel to be faster. This especially works out for me because I could even see nearby restaurants causing contention on my wireless channel.The Bad..----------* The bad was the handling of the internet provider problems, which I suspect has caused some of the reviews. For whatever reason, this modem just doesn't handle problematic nodes like other modems. I can at least use my cheap time warner cable/Spectrum TPLink modem with slower access. I couldn't do anything with the Netgear one. This is a problem because the networks aren't as stable as they were in the past. Having excellent diagnostics is extremely helpful in today's time but I would have liked to see more internal error handling on the cable modem side to at least allow a user to still use the internet.* Spending all this money and getting outdated. Limits of speed per a channel by the cable provider. Now, 24 channels is already outdated. Right now, we have completion coming from AT&T, Time Warner Spectrum, Verizon, and Google Fiber (soon). Customers have choices and this is driving fast rollouts for all the providers without the quality control. Goodness.. It would be a good idea for a cable modem to advertise features such as error handling and what not because it is the reality and a key differentiator.I will return it because 24 channels is now outdated for my provider. But I will get another one when more channels are available. And while it didn't work, it sure did help to finally see where the problem was at. I just wish that I could have got it going but maybe I will. 4 out 5 stars -- excellent features, bad error handling that wasn't their fault completely but should have been handled better (on the level of the other modem).

NETGEAR C7000v2 - Compatible with Different ISPs - For the Most Part

I purchased the NETGEAR Model: C7000v2 back in November 2023. I previously had a lower model NETGEAR and I needed to upgrade. My internet service was upgrading and I needed a product that could handle 500 Gbps service. I was with COX and they were the only ISP available in the city I lived in at that time. The COX website said that their service was compatible with this device. The NETGEAR device price was decent...so I went with it.Whether the issue is with NETGEAR or COX, it has yet to be determined. I would have to say, at least once a month, my internet would go out. Looking at the COX app, it said my service was "All Good". Looking at the NETGEAR app, it says "The device is functioning properly." Parties from both sides could not provide me an answer to the issue. WiFi strength was generally around 100-150 Mbps (download). Connecting with an ethernet cable from my laptop to the NETGEAR device provided a better connection obviously. It ranged from 250-490 Mbps download. I worked from home so a reliable and dependable connection was required. I also had multiple devices (2-Alexas, Google Nest, GE washer/dryer, Google TV, Xbox, etc.) connected via WiFi. A little bit of device overload? Sure...I'll give them that.Fast forward...it is now May 2025. I moved to a different city and I am now with Spectrum. Their website said this NETGEAR C7000v2 device is compatible with their service and so I kept it. I signed up for the same speed of 500 Mbps with Spectrum because I am still working remotely. I also have other devices (2-Alexas, Google TV, smart bulbs, laptops, etc.) connected to the WiFi. Connecting with an ethernet cable gives me about 450-500 Mbps (download) and WiFi gives me about 150Mbps download. I have yet to experience any outages (fingers crossed).Side Note: I used the website "Speed Test by Ookla" to see what my internet speeds are.Ver más
