Review of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 8, Purchased on June 25, 2026
This is my second Surface Laptop; the first one was a Surface Laptop 7 (SL7) purchased about 2 years ago. Unexpectedly, I damaged that one and since I had not purchased the Microsoft Complete, it made more sense to me to just purchase the Surface Laptop 8 with the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor than to try to get the SL7 repaired. So, I have had the SL8 now for about 3 weeks and I'm liking it a lot. While the processor is very much faster that the Snapdragon X Elite on the SL7, as expected I do notice that it is a bit snappier in loading apps and pages. Overall, while the performance of the SL8 while very fast it is not THAT much different from the SL7 with the exception of a few minor things. One of those things is the behavior of the camera with regard to facial recognition for the purpose of logging into the device. From what I've read, Microsoft did not significantly change the camera. However, it is far more reliable for logging into the device than the camera on the SL7. As with the SL7, I really like the fit and finish of the case; it is truly elegant. I am very happy with the SL8 and I would definitely purchase it again. The battery life is extraordinary and its performance of apps such as MS Access in handling complex and large databases, or Excel with (also) large and complex spreadsheets is truly excellent. As with the SL7, even if the SL8 is loaded and crunching several apps at once, it NEVER gets warm and I have never heard the CPU fan come on. All in all, I would say that the SL8 is definitely a more refined and polished device than the SL7. The one thing I would recommend, however, is one should purchase the Microsoft Complete. I wish I had done so with the SL7, and I'm trying to get it now for the SL8. Had I purchased the SL8 directly from Microsoft, the price would have been the same as with Amazon, but they would have included Microsoft Complete at the purchase, with the charges for it, of course added in. As it is, for Microsoft products that are purchased through authorized third-party venders, such as Amazon, one must wait. They say that Microsoft Complete needs to be purchased within 45 days of purchase. I have managed to get Microsoft to extend that time to 1 year. But because of my experience with the SL7, I definitely want the Microsoft Complete.Ver másVer menos
