A well-thought design executed properly
The first thing I'll note is that I had an issue with this controller and almost returned it. I requested a return through Amazon and just needed to take the controller to a drop-off location. I was having issues where my computer would recognize the controller but it only worked in one or two of my games. In the games it worked I would receive a message that the type of controller was not recognized so it appeared this was a poorly implemented knock-off. However, before finishing the return I decided to give it one more go. I remembered that the sales page mentioned to use 2.4G on Windows instead of Bluetooth. I switched it on the back of the controller and lo and behold it worked perfectly in all of my games and no longer gave a warning about it being unrecognized. I immediately cancelled my return.Now on to what I really love about this controller. The look is sleek, it is wireless, and the charging dock doubles as a passthrough for the 2.4G dongle. You only need to take up a single USB port on your computer to both charge and connect the controller. It is comfortable to hold and the sticks are smooth. The only downside is it does not appear to have a replaceable battery. Who knows how long it will last and once it's dead it looks like I will have to get a whole new controller. Even with that negative I still give it 5 stars for the well-thought design and great execution.Ver másVer menos

Excellent Controller for PC Emulation with a Premium Feel
My Honest Review After Countless Hours of Research for a Good Emulation ControllerPros:This controller has a premium, comfortable feel. I have larger hands, and it's comfortable even after multiple hours of gaming. Many people claim the shape is too different from an Xbox controller and therefore uncomfortable, but I found it totally fine. If you're on the fence about the shape or feel, I'd recommend trying it yourself and simply returning it if it's not your taste.The D-pad has a tactile, satisfying feel. I'm currently playing through the Castlevania and Metroid games, and I've found it to be extremely reliable and responsive. The joysticks, buttons, and triggers also feel great. In particular, I really like the clicky RB/LB buttons.You can easily set up macros through the software. There's also a switch on the back that lets you change the triggers between Hall Effect (linear) and tactile mode, which is useful depending on the type of game you're playing.The extra paddle buttons and L4/R4 buttons are a nice addition, although they're somewhat limited in what you can map them to.Compared to other brands, this controller is a great value since it also includes a charging dock. I also appreciate that the controller has a clean aesthetic and isn't overly gamified like many of its competitors.One final note for emulator users: this controller supports gyro. To have your emulator recognize it, launch the controller in D-Input mode by holding B + Home while turning it on. For normal X-Input mode, simply hold the Home button.Cons:8BitDo's product lineup can be confusing. I had to do quite a bit of research before deciding on this controller.If your goal is to play emulated games on PC, this is the controller I'd recommend. However, if you're mainly playing on the Switch console itself, I'd instead recommend the Bluetooth version.Another downside is that you can't remap the Star and Square buttons on the front, which is a shame. Also, holding the Home button for too long turns the controller off, which can be frustrating when using hotkeys in RetroArch. I wish the software included an option to disable this behavior.Lastly, I wish the triggers were a little more sensitive out of the box, although you can adjust them in the software.Overall:I'd definitely recommend this controller and encourage anyone who's interested to give it a try. I think it deserves the praise it's received so far. That said, I think 8BitDo could improve both its software and the way it communicates the differences between its various controller models.Ver másVer menos

Interface issues with iPad Pro gaming apps solved!
Edit: Upgraded to 5 stars after purchasing an Xbox controller which did the same thing, It took the young man who who recommended it 2 days, but he finally figured it out for the Xbox controller. Pressing the hamburger icon below the Xbox power button enabled and disabled "game mode". Enabling "game mode" rectified the issue. I've since bought another 8BitDo Ultimate 2 because I really did like it. I hooked it up and enabled game mode by pressing the + button in the same location as Xbox hamburger button. It worked! The joystick on myy second one had an "almost imperceptible" drag between the 2 and 3:00 positions but enough that it bothered me. Easy return and got a third. After some game play, it did the same thing. I put a small dab of SuperLube synthetic oil (doesn't deteriorate plastics or rubber) on the end of a toothpick and just barely touched the rubbing areas. This thing is now so smooth! 2 weeks later and loving it!I tried using this on an iPad Pro m4 which has the latest 26.2.1 update. The controller works via Bluetooth. Underneath the controller, ensure you toggle the button from 2.4g to bluetooth. The Assistive Touch function must be turned on for the controller to work. Assistive touch turns on the mandatory Top Level Menu (controller menu) which appears as a white translucent circle, regardless what you are viewing. Touching that circle opens a menu. Turn off assistive touch, the menu circle disappears, and so does the ability to use the game controller. More on that later. Using the joystick, the controller seemed to have a mind of its own and is all over the map as to what it decides to select or do. Some times it will allow scrolling L or R or up and down. Other times, the same buttons have zero effect so you revert to dragging your finger across the iPad. Using the controller with the Wings of Heroes gaming app provided a new issue. The B button is used to drop bombs or use missiles. The B button, by default, ALSO opens the Assistive Touch Top Level Menu (control menu). I could not find a way to un-assign this default function. So, when dropping bombs or shooting missiles, simultaneously and by default, the menu pops up mid game. You must remove your hand from the controller and touch the screen for the menu to disappear. You can remap the B button and assign it to a different button, however it brings the "open control menu" with it. After hours of research, changing settings, trying to hide or turn off the menu, unanswered emails to support, I finally gave up. I tried assigning buttons via the 8BitDo map to no avail. Remapping buttons can be accomplished via Settings>General>Game Controller. Many of the buttons on the controller do not migrate over to the iPad Game controller function. For example, the Palm Right or Palm Left buttons are nowhere to be found in the iPad game controller setup. Also confusing is, the description of the buttons. The iPad game controller setup buttons are labeled differently than the 8BitDo quick setup guide and/or mapping. I did update the controller from my laptop PC. I tried setting up a profile and remapping buttons, and again, to no avail. Seems the Game Controller settings override buttons mapped from 8BitDo. After 2 days of wasted time, I'm doing myself a favor and sending it back. I gave it a few stars because it's pretty, it paired right up, and the other functions worked with the gaming app. It's more than likely an iPad compatibly/interface problem or a user error problem more so than the controller itself, which I really really like. The B button opening the menu with no workarounds is the dealbreaker. I can't say for sure whether other similar controllers would do the same thing simply because it could be limitations placed by Apple. This is the first controller I've ever tried using with my iPad. It seems like a capable controller worthy of 5 stars using an X Box, Windows PC, or Android where you can program all available buttons via the 8BitDo website. For an iPad, in my limited experience, not so much. Maybe a later update either by Apple or 8BitDo will fix this issue. Currently no matter what program or app I used, know that the B button, remapped or not, will open the annoying menu. I'm not smart enough to figure out Macros, which you can apply via 8bitDo site, but again, the Game Controller settings overrode anything I set from 8BitDo. I like the feel, and looks of the controller, but I'm a function over form kind of guy so this is a no go for me. The compatibility with an iPad can and should be improved.

Don’t debate and just buy
TL;DR Don’t debate any longer and just buy it. Well worth the money compared to other options or ‘elite’ first party controllers.This thing is awesome. Works effortlessly in Cachyos linux. This model comes with a charging pod that also acts as the wireless adapter. Buttons feel nice and thumb sticks are good. Tops of thumb sticks are a little slick. D-pad is silent and honestly better than others I’ve used that give a tactile click.Can be connected with wireless dongle or Bluetooth. LED rings are controllable without any software. Can also set a turbo mode on the fly without software.Ver másVer menos

My new favorite Windows/Android/Bluetooth controller
Let me start off by saying that I have been an avid user of Microsoft Elite Series controllers. I finally got tired of replacing them (both v1 & v2) due to stick drift, grip peeling, broken bumpers, etc., so I started looking for cheaper alternatives. I stumbled across this controller, on sale, for under $50 and decided to take a chance. (I have owned several 8BitDo devices in the past and have always been pleasantly surprised by their quality) If you're not using it in Bluetooth mode, there's a 2.4Ghz dongle hidden in the base that can be removed and connected to PC or gaming device.... if you don't want to do that, you could simply leave the dongle connected inside the dock a connect the USB-C cable into the console/PC.This controller is, in all honesty, shockingly good! It's not only slick looking, but it's comfortable and responsive! I love the customizable buttons, colors, and thumb stick sensitivity; I absolutely love the charging dock, too. I wish the sticks were slightly more stiff, but they're better than the sloppy feel of the standard Microsoft Xbox/PC controller. (If you've used the Elite series controller and the standard Xbox controller, on the highest thumb stick tension setting, these sticks are right between the two.) I wish it were a bit heavier, but it's not too light and doesn't feel cheap at all.The triggers are excellent, have nice resistance, and when the "trigger mode" is switched it's WAY better than using the trigger stops on an Elite v1 or v2 controller!I'm CRAZY impressed with this controller, and at at this price, will absolutely be buying a 2nd one for my "player 2".Pros:* Great price* High quality build* Bluetooth or 2.4 Ghz dongle connectivity.* Remap buttons and customize colors via PC Application.* 2 additional customizable bumper buttons (perfect for moving L3/R3 thumbstick button function)* 2 customizable buttons on the back side of the grips* Cool lighting effects* Responsive triggers and thumb sticks.* Very nice D-Pad* Comfortable.Cons:* Not compatible with Xbox* No Headphone/mic port* Not as heavy as I would like. You will love it
Wow. It's not often I get "wowed" by a product. This thing blew me away. I just wanted a controller that could pair on a single adapter so that i can have 4 controllers on my linux HTPC and play some steam games. I researched what controllers would work on a bluetooth adapter and came to this product.I was NOT PREPARED for how STELLAR a controller this is. In so many ways. Here's an unorganized list of things that i was pleasantly surprised to find:- switches to physically convert the triggers to essentially bumpers- the brilliance of the charging dock. A weighty charging base that doubles as a usb-c extension; comes preinstalled with the 2.4ghz but you could swap this out with a usb-c bluetooth adapter, extending your deployment options- the fact that the 2.4ghz receiver is a separate usb-c unit, so you are not restricted to using the charging dock as the receiver and you can extremely easily take the adapter and controller somewhere else, such as heading over to a friend's house should you have one of those (i don't)- the mobility of the controller and receiver adds another layer of awesome - on-board memory profiles. Yes you need the software to set it up, no the software doesn't work on linux unless you use a vm w/ usb passthrough. But you do NOT need to create an account or keep internet access to use the software (IM LOOKING RIGHT AT *YOU* LOGITECH). You do NOT need the software running on the device for your profiles to continue functioning (IM LOOKING RIGHT AT *YOU* LOGITECH). These profiles are saved on the on-board memory, so your button mappings, macros, RGB settings, all profile-specific settings stick with the controller even after disconnected from the device with the software.- The RGB functions are limited but present. One animation style ("Fire Ring"), one reactive style ("Tracer"), and static color style (but individually addressable LEDs on each thumbstick ring). Sadly the power light doesn't seem to have RGB, but that's a tiny loss. I haven't disassembled one to see what flavor LEDs these are but for some reason, there actually aren't a lot of color options. In the software you select across a gradiant but the LED doesn't actually change unless your cross major steps. For example, You can pick Red, you can pick Orange, but you can really get it to light up any color in between those two. I don't know if that's a limitation of the LED light itself (doubtful) or something else.- when you remove the controller from the charging dock, it turns on. It's simple, but I'm glad there are thoughtful firmware coders out there that put out quality work. It's a dying breed- the build quality is almost on par with this xbone controller i'm comparing it to side by side as I type. About the same tolerances. Giving the paddles a good squeeze will yield just a bit more play; a bit more squeak out of the 8BitDo, but it's nothing that would concern me or even notice unless i was throwing a temper tantrum, and even then I wouldn't care. Point is - there appears to be thoughtful structure and support on the internals- buttons. more buttons! PR, PL, R4, L4Cons or criticisms:- The d-pad is fine but the xbone dpad is way better. Very clear, recognizable, repeatable, tactile selection of each intercardinal direction. The 8BitDo is just a little washy - not as easy to reliably hit NE or SW, etc.- I wish the light button wasn't placed where it is. I press it way too often when trying to hit "start". This should maybe instead be a tiny button at the top similar to the sync button.Conclusion: what an AMAZING device. I have four of these now all paired on a single bluetooth controller. With the ease of mind that should I try to socialize, I can take this remote and adapter and keep my button presets where I go. I cannot recommend this enough. WELL. DONE.
