Excellent build quality

HP is a top tier manufacturer of Laptops here in 2026. This is a no-frills, non-gaming laptop - but it works well! Great Wi-Fi connectivity. Excellent screen quality creates a bright, deep color experience. Sound is Meh...very little bass or treble. I use the headphone jack for quality. Does everything I need it to do without costing an arm and leg. Came with little bloatware. Seems to have good battery life so far. Fans are not noisy. I highly recommend this laptop.Ver más

Outstanding Notebook

This is an outstanding and fast notebook computer. It is fast, has a long battery life, and I have never seen a better display.

Great little laptop is small in the bag but feels big when you're using it. Very capable hardware.

This is a real powerhouse of a laptop here. The Intel CPU is strong and fast, and does a good job sipping on the power to maximize battery life. There weren't many problems with this, and the few that there were are almost entirely software / support issues that I expect to improve over time.I'm not a big fan of Windows, so the first thing I did with this is install Linux. I went with Fedora 44 KDE Plasma. That's a more lightweight version of Fedora I like for power intensive applications like portable devices. It works great on this laptop, really smooth with almost perfect zero-config hardware support. The only thing that didn't auto-detect and setup automatically was the on-board speakers. Here's my breakdown of the pros and cons, in ranked order.--[ Pro's (in order of awesomeness) ]:* All metal case is strong and light and feels very durable.* Despite being a very small laptop, the display, keyboard, and track pad all feel very large and easy to use. You won't feel like you're using a very small laptop when you're using this.* Absolutely gorgeous display. Bright and vivid with great contrast and a really fast refresh rate. And it's a touchscreen, which is cool even if I don't use it very much.* The Intel Arc integrated GPU is surprisingly not-bad. This is by no means a gaming rig, but it can play some games ok if you turn the settings down a little. 3D apps like CAD and Blender run great.* The CPU and RAM and more than enough for serious number crunching. Big compilations, complex 3D operations, vast sorts... it will handle all of that with ease.* Despite the lack of official support by HP, Linux Fedora 44 runs great on the Omnibook X and was fairly painless to install. Spam ESC during post to open the boot menu if you need to disable secure boot or adjust boot order. GPU, Bluetooth and hardware encoding worked right away (but audio support requires a little finesse).* Mouse pad supports middle mouse button operations for easy Blender operation, as well as two finger drag to scroll, which is really convenient.* Backlit keyboard is nice and easy to see in any lighting conditions.* Very low power usage during idle conditions. I measured 5w per hour to sit there with the screen on and a running Fedora KDE Plasma desktop that is not otherwise doing much. That's with the background set to black. With the background set to white, it's 7w, so if you're trying to maximize your battery life definitely switch to Dark or Darker mode. Battery life is pretty great, and it charges up fast.* Lots of ports. USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, headphones... pretty much everything you might want (except for ethernet, which you'll need a USB adapter for).* Compact power brick with fold-in prongs make it easier to setup and put away* Webcam has a nice integrated privacy screen.* Thermal management is good with a big wide air intake on the underbody that's lifted off the table surface by about a quarter inch by a riser in front of and behind the large vent holes section. Does not run particularly hot, it won't set your lap on fire.--[ Con's (in order of how annoying it is) ]:* Windows 11 pushed hard onto the user, no Linux support at all from HP that I can find.* Mouse pad button takes some getting used to, and it seems to be strongly biased towards the middle mouse button. I have to ride my finger halfway off the left edge of the button for that click to register as a left click, other wise it's a middle mouse button click, which usually isn't what I want it to do. The right side button isn't as extreme in this way, so the button's layout seems to be like 2% left mouse button, 68% middle mouse button, 30% right mouse button. Generally you can just tap the mouse pad and that counts as a left click, but not if you're trying to click and drag.* Fedora 44 install did not auto detect the audio hardware and needs careful configuration, which is hard to do without specific chipset information, which I can't find on their website (see below).* I can't find this specific laptop on HP's website. There's a very similar 16gb model, and another very similar 32gb model, but the ka0099nr 24gb is not in any of my search results. Overall the Omnibook X ecosystem is vast and confusing, split between the Flip variants, and these non-Flip variants, with all of them using a wide mix of different architectures (Arm, AMD, Intel). I tried giving them a good long while to update their website but it's been two months now and still nothing.--* The price is neither a pro nor con. Hardware costs have gone up dramatically in the last year or two, and that's reflected in the costs of devices like this. So while I normally would think the price on this is pretty high, considering the current situation with hardware and especially RAM, I think it is reasonably priced. My final score for this laptop is 3.5 stars. HP could easily increase that to 4.5 by enthusiastically supporting Linux installations, and it could be a 5 star laptop if they then also fixed the mouse button issue and updated their website.Ver más

Thin, fast, and the best OLED display I’ve ever had

I’ve been using this daily for over two months and here’s the short review: this is a thin-and-light 14 inch laptop with the best OLED screen I’ve used and a fast x86 Intel chip, and it’s become my daily machine for writing code, regular work, and lighter gaming. It is not a discrete-GPU workstation, so if you’re buying it to run big local AI models or max out AAA games, look elsewhere. As a portable that handles development, AI-assisted work, and casual gaming, I’ve been glad to pay what it costs, and it is not cheap. Now if you’re interested, here’s the long review of my experience over the last couple months:Let’s start with the 3K OLED touchscreen. Next to the LED panels on my other laptops, the blacks are actually black and text is sharp, and it gets bright enough to use next to a window. The body is thin, aluminum, and light enough to forget in a backpack. It isn’t a tank, there’s a little flex if you grab a corner and twist it, nothing that bothers me day to day but worth knowing on an all-metal laptop at this price. The keyboard is lattice-less with well-spaced keys and some give, easy to type on for hours, and the trackpad is big and takes custom gestures, which Windows handles better here than I’m used to. Login is a glance at the camera with Windows Hello, and there’s a physical cover for the webcam.Development has been the sweet spot. The Intel chip matters here: it’s x86, not ARM, so I’m not running into the toolchain and binary compatibility gaps that still trip up ARM laptops. With 24GB of RAM and the Gen4 NVMe drive I keep my IDE, a loaded browser, and a couple of containers going at once without it bogging down, and cold builds finish fast. The 1TB drive formats to about 950GB, and after Windows and my usual tools most of that was still free. It stays quiet for this, the fans only pick up on bigger compiles. The “AI PC” label needs a caveat. It’s a Copilot+ machine with an NPU, and for the AI features in Windows and the assisted coding in my editor, the NPU carries that without draining the battery. Local models are the limit. On shared memory with integrated graphics, a local LLM is usable at small sizes but drags as they get bigger, and if self-hosted inference is your main goal, a box with a real GPU will run circles around this. For AI-assisted work rather than hosting your own large models, it holds up.Now let’s talk gaming. There’s no discrete graphics card, so maxed-out AAA isn’t the play. Older and lighter games run great, and I got Cyberpunk going at 1080p on medium-low with frame generation at a frame rate I was fine with, which surprised me. Think indies and back-catalog games on the couch, not a gaming rig. I didn’t buy it for that.Battery swings with the load. HP’s 27-hour figure is a light-use fantasy, but a one-hour video call cost me about 8 percent, and I get a full day of writing and coding; lean on video work or games and it’s more like four or five hours. Fast charging is legit, roughly half full in half an hour on the included USB-C brick, and between USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI I’m not carrying dongles. A couple of things to know: there’s a dedicated Copilot key, but you can remap it, and there’s the usual HP bloatware to clear on the first day. It’s also close to two grand. But you get what you pay for. And when you put a screen this good in a body this light that still runs my whole dev stack won me over.

Excellent value and easy to use.

I purchased the HP OmniBook X primarily for home use, so I want to mention that I am not a business professional or someone who uses demanding software every day. My typical use includes browsing the internet, checking email, watching videos, online shopping, organizing photos, and playing games with my grandkids. For those everyday activities, this laptop has been excellent. The 14 inch 3K touchscreen is one of my favorite features. The display is bright, sharp, and colorful, making everything from streaming movies to looking at family photos look fantastic. The touchscreen is responsive and easy to use, especially when I don’t feel like reaching for the touchpad.Performance has been smooth for everything I have asked it to do. Programs open quickly, web pages load fast, and I can have several tabs open without noticing any slowdowns. The laptop also starts up quickly, which is something I really appreciate since I don’t like waiting for a computer to be ready.I also like how lightweight and easy it is to carry around the house. The keyboard is comfortable for typing, and the battery has lasted long enough that I am not constantly looking for the charger. It has been reliable for everyday use, and I have enjoyed using it with my grandkids for games and other fun activities. If you are looking for a computer for business, video editing, or other professional workloads, I cannot really speak to that because that is not how I use it. However, if you want a fast, attractive laptop for everyday home use, entertainment, and casual gaming, I think this is a great choice. For the price, I believe it offers excellent value. It feels like a premium laptop, performs very well for everything I use it for, and has made my everyday computing experience much more enjoyable.Ver más

It offers so much functionality as it has multiple capabilities that fit a variety of users.

This is a truly amazing laptop computer. I wish I could say it arrived in perfect condition, but I can’t. It arrived with cosmetic blemishes on the top that made it look like an old laptop right out of the gate. This laptop is well-equipped with a beautiful 14” 3K touchscreen, and Windows 11. The 1 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD offers fast speed and efficient storage; and 24 GB LPDDR5x RAM memory boosts performance with higher bandwidth. The keyboard has a comfortable, springy, feel to it that in combination with the rich feel of the trackpad, elevate the experience of the laptop to well above average. With technology that illuminates each pixel individually, an OLED display produces profounder blacks for more profound contrast, superior color intensity, and more power efficacy than conventional LED displays. The HP OmniBook X delivers what matters: remarkable battery life, great performance, integrated graphics and AI to change the way you create, game, and work anywhere. The HP OmniBook X has great battery life.
