I Should've Believed The Naysayers

I got this to replace a Samsung A50 that was purchased in October 2019. Yes, 2019! That's before the world changed forever due to a pandemic. And that alone should tell you how infrequently I change phones and what my priorities in life are. I'm a simple woman with simple needs.There wasn't anything really wrong with my old phone but t unfortunately I cracked the screen and it was almost as much to fix it as it was to get a new one. So since it was practically a dinosaur I chose to "upgrade" and decided to take the chance on getting this model after doing a lot of research. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I mainly use my phone for basic tasks, talking, texting, etc. I don't do any gaming, heavy streaming or lots of downloading. At most I'll watch a YT video or scroll sparingly on SM if time permits.It arrived quickly and came unlocked as described. That's about it for positive feedback. It was really surprising to me that this phone didn't perform nearly as well as it's almost 7 year old predecessor. Let's start with the fact that it took over 4 hours to do a transfer at the mobile store. Then I learned I really didn't have enough storage so a lot of my texts didn't transfer over. The next thing is I keep running out of space and have to keep deleting photos & videos. Now keep in mind these are the same photos from my old A50. I also have almost the same specs on this phone as there is on the A50 so I don't understand why this is happening.Yes, I know things change but I'm not a fan of the new texting features. They're so annoying, especially auto-correct and the "typing" bubble like the iPhone. And I don't find this to be very intuitive so I have trouble changing certain features easily. I have to dig and dig to find what I need.The UI (?) updates are constant and very annoying. Internet pages or tabs will close or switch for no reason and the phone is also laggy as heck. For example, sometimes it takes at least 4-7 seconds to capture a screenshot. Or at times there's a long delay to move from one part of an Internet page to another. What's crazy is I'm not the type of user who requires everything on my phone to move at the speed of light. I can accept a delay here or there but it's a constant waiting game with this phone. And don't get me started on how terrible the camera is. I absolutely despise every picture this camera takes and selfie are the worst! They have everyone looking haggard as heck, no matter what the setting. My A50 camera was 1000x better than this and I could always find a way to take a flattering photo.When I initially read all the negative reviews (and I mean ALL) I incorrectly assumed some of complaints were from folks who were used to swapping out their $2K phones every year. They had high standards and this is a low budget phone so they were disappointed. I get it. It's hard to enjoy beer when you have champagne tastes. But I was quite mistaken. A lot of the complaints are very valid and quite accurate.If you're looking for quality on a budget this ain't it. Trust me. This phone is probably best for a 10-year old child. Take it from someone with super low standards and who kept their own phone for an actual child's formative years. I'll keep it because I don't want to spend more money right now but do yourself a favor and keep your expectations low. If you need a high performance phone look elsewhere. I wish I did.
