Great alternative to overly expensive Apple monitors.

Lovely looking monitor. It makes a big difference to have a quality monitor when using a DAW for music production.I got the gloss version, and it is gorgeous. The gloss version does seem to add a bit of high frequency reflection from the monitor speakers. But it is a trade off I am willing to make for the improved visual clarity.Ver másVer menos

  Watch those Screws

This monitor is great, I'm using it side by side with the Studio monitor and the difference isn't super jarring. It also wakes up and goes to sleep with the rest of the computer without an issue. Overall, it does look less good than the studio but it's not something I care to spend $1,100 extra dollars to improve. It works great for a second monitor. I was also happy with it while using it without the Studio and I would say that if it had speakers and a camera I would have just bought two of these for my mac mini. The stand does look cheap to me and I don't care for how it looks, so I have it mounted on an arm. While I was attaching the Vesa mount to the back of the monitor one of the screws got away from me and went INSIDE the monitor. I was not able to get it back out so that was pretty annoying. It doesn't *seem* like the screw is doing anything bad to the performance of the monitor itself... other than just irritating me for being there. Time will tell if it has a long term impact on the performance of the monitor. I wish there wasn't a hole large enough for a rogue screw to get into, though.Ver másVer menos

Old School Mac user gives BenQ its props!

As an old-school Mac user in the creative space, the Apple/Mac look… and feel (display and interface) is very important to me. From my very first computer, a Mac IIci paired with a Radius display card and a huge Radius Precision Color Pro moniter to my last computer, an iMac 27” Retina 5k, I have become accustomed to that “je ne sais quoi” that only Mac displays provide.Well, the time finally came for me to upgrade from my trusty Intel based iMac to the M series based machines that I envied from afar. I would have pulled the trigger on the M4 mini last year, but I couldn’t find a monitor that wouldn’t have put a hurting on my pockets. I could have purchased an iMac, but in my mind it fell short in terms of I/O, its small screen dimentions and its price. So, I waited for Apple to release a 27” version……As the year passed, I decided to “do my research” to find the best monitor I could find not necessarily based on price, but in the “bang for your buck” range. My memories from when I went through the “maxed out MacBook Pro (Intel series) as my main computer stage” where I relied on a 3rd party monitor at my desk left a bad taste in my mouth about non-Apple displays. My thinking was — get the best monitor for the cheaplest price for now and start saving up for an Apple monitor later down the line.My year of “research” convinced me to buy the BenQ MA27OU 27” 4K — wait until next year and get an Apple! In my mind I was thinking it would be a step down that I would just have to deal with. That’s why I didn’t go the BenQ’s 5K version for which I hear is outstanding but costs too much for my buy Apple later strategy. Anyhow, I loaded up Amazon fully prepared to pull the trigger on the BenQ MA27OU 27” 4K, knowing that I would be taking a hit on my druthers, like having to settle on a matte screen, lack of Apple sound, etc! That’s when I saw the new BenQ MA27OUP 27” 4K — the GLOSSY sister of the BenQ MA27OU 27” 4K for a few bucks more!I pulled the trigger, it’s in my possesion — and I am impressed! Text is crisp at most of the higher monitor settings even at 1080. Next to my iMac 5K the colors match quite well. BenQ’s software integration is well implemented — dare I say — almost Mac-like! I’ve only had it set up for about 3 days now. For the most part, I feel right at home. The only thing that’s missing is Apple sound - the built in speakers are no match vs the iMac and the Apple Studio Display. Oh yeah and Apple design — although the design is fine on this monitor - mostly silver and black - no guarish colors or offensive branding - thin bezels on three sides - solid stand with easy height adjustment from very low to pretty high - nice.If you’ve read this far and noticed that I talked more about my Mac history and my upgrade strategy than I’ve given this product a review — understand that that in itself gives creedence to my good review! To wrap it up, I am totally impressed with this monitor! I may even wait until Apple comes out with a new display before I buy this current gen Studio display. It’s only been 3 days, so I may come back and edit this review to add any strengths or weakness as I find them, but for now — CONSUME!

Absolutely Great monitors with one little hiccup for me..

I'd give this monitor 5 Stars if it wasn't for an odd situation I ran into.. Have two of these connected to my M4 Mac Studio. After setup i was super happy (and still am) with screen/picture quality. These monitors blew me away.. BUT.. immediately i found that my Thunderbolt 5 drive was no longer recognized by the operating system. Tried different cables, ports..reboots.. no joy.. the OS would not mount drive. I got a message on screen about port needing more power and it hit me.. I shut down and unplugged both BenQ units and kept an older monitor plugged in.. Booted up and the drive immediately came back online.. So i reconnected the BenQ units and started to poke through the settings on the BenQ Display Pilot 2 app which i downloaded and installed. under settings>advanced i noted that both monitors had the setting: "Power-on-charging" set to on. So both these beasts were blasting 90W to the Thunderbolt/USB ports on the Mac Studio.. I set the Power-on-charging setting to off which also turns off Standby charging. I rebooted the Mac and the Thunderbolt 5 drive came back online. After doing some more research it appears that this will happen when the ports can't negotiate power across ports.Once this got resolved the monitors performed beautifully. I set both units to Picture mode "Display P3" and the picture is stunning with sharp, clear text even set to 4K resolution.. Love these monitors.. I really don't need the charging capabilities so no big loss for me. I want to mention I did update the Firmware but have not tested post update. If you purchase i do highly recommend downloading and installing the BenQ Display Pilot 1 app for settings and the BenQ Display Quickkit app for firmware upgrades.. Both are super easy to work with.. Again.. These are EXCELLENT monitors for the price.. Stunning picture and build quality.Ver másVer menos

BenQ - Best for Apple users.

Best 27" 4K monitor for use with mac. I researched long and hard and tried out several before getting this BenQ. Image sharpness and clarity outstanding. Brightness and color great, matching Apple white point and color. Text sharp and not blurry. 60 Hz refresh rate may put off some but I have no issues with it (not a gaming monitor). Connections fit my needs. I hesitated to get it because there were many discussions on the internet regarding wake from sleep issues. It's either been fixed or people with those issues didn't have the settings correct as its worked perfectly for me, easily waking from sleep after adjusting one setting per the online technical support. BenQ advertises this monitor as built for the Mac and has a setting called M-mode specifically for use with the mac (I'm using a mac mini).Ver másVer menos
