Nintendo’s Most Joyfully Destructive Platformer in Years
Donkey Kong Bananza feels like Nintendo looked at the idea of a platformer and asked, “What if movement itself was the toy?” The result is one of the most creative and purely fun games I’ve played in a long time. From the first hour, the game radiates personality. The animations are expressive, the environments are packed with detail, and the sheer physicality of Donkey Kong’s movement makes everything feel satisfying. Jumping, climbing, smashing through terrain, and tearing apart the environment never stopped being entertaining. There’s a constant sense that the world is reacting to you instead of simply existing around you. What really elevates the game is how inventive the level design becomes. Nintendo constantly introduces new mechanics, twists, and environmental interactions without letting the experience grow stale. Every new area feels like the developers asking themselves how much more creativity they can squeeze out of the core gameplay loop. The game trusts experimentation, and because of that, exploration feels rewarding rather than mandatory. On the Nintendo Switch 2, performance was smooth throughout my time with the game. The visuals are vibrant without losing clarity during chaotic moments, and the larger-scale destruction sequences are genuinely impressive. Load times were quick, controls felt responsive, and the entire experience carried that signature Nintendo polish where everything simply feels good to play. What surprised me most was how much charm the game has beyond the mechanics. There’s an infectious sense of joy running through the entire experience. It understands that games are supposed to be playful, and it fully commits to that idea without irony or restraint.Overall, Donkey Kong Bananza is one of the strongest platformers Nintendo has released in years. It’s inventive, energetic, polished, and consistently fun in a way that reminds you why Nintendo’s first-party games remain so beloved. If you own a Switch 2 and enjoy platformers even remotely, this is absolutely worth playing.Ver másVer menos
