We were so thrilled that all ten butterflies survived. When we set them free, one was not flying well, so we put it back in the cage for a couple days. Then we set it free and it flew away wonderfully. I have bought this two years for my now 8-year-old granddaughter. She was six the first time I bought them. I will be purchasing it next year for my 4-year-old granddaughter. My granddaughter loved watching the caterpillars grow into butterflies. We kept them for a day or two and then set them free. I think we saw one yesterday flying around her house. She puts her arm and hand in the cage and the butterflies land on her fingers/hands and just walk around. She is so gentle with them and knows we have to set them free. I definitely recommend these to everyone who has a daughter/granddaughter/ niece/nephew/cousin who are 4 through teens.Ver másVer menos

All 5 caterpillars made chrysalises and emerged as butterflies! Magical activity for kids of all ages!

Great for kids
I ordered two cups and all the caterpillars made it to butterflies.

Cool & educational. Just beware of meconium mess.
Overall great experience. We already had the habitat from years ago so we just needed the caterpillars & logs. So far 9/10 have emerged. Just waiting on one more butterfly to come out. One cup had 4/5 chrysalis fall down off the cup so I had to manually put them in the net. But they emerged. One of them has bent wings (after a day) so not sure if it’ll fly.The only thing is that I don’t remember it being so nasty last time we did this. There is red meconium splattered everywhere. My kids think it’s blood so they’re a little icked out. Some of the butterflies still have it on their bodies.. dripping down the sides.. it’s just everywhere. I wanted to keep them for a couple of days but it’s just gross to look at so I feel like we’ll release sooner.Ver másVer menos

Butterfly release in spring was successful!
My students loved watching ALL of the caterpillars become butterflies! This was great for June when we all needed something fun. I already had the habitat. I’ll buy again for my next class!

Caterpillars almost fully thru cycle; suggest ordering direct from Insect Lore
Normally these come as small caterpillars, sort of dormant on top of the level food. These came with semi-grown and very active caterpillars, the food was half-eaten and they had already begun to spin webs. They climbed and spun chrysalises within a week. I do not recommend for first-time orderers. Ive never had this problem thru many years of doing this. I can only assume the problem is fulfillment by Amazon instead of Insect Lore.Ver másVer menos
