Compact Powerhouse

The Sonos Roam 2 is a Compact Powerhouse for Audio Enthusiasts on the GoWhen it comes to portable speakers, the Sonos Roam 2 has carved out a niche for itself by blending sleek design with stellar performance. This second iteration of the Roam series builds upon its predecessor's success while refining features that make it an appealing choice for audiophiles and casual listeners alike. Let’s dive into what makes the Sonos Roam 2 a standout device in the increasingly crowded world of portable audio.Design and PortabilityThe Sonos Roam 2 retains the elegant, minimalist design that defines the Sonos brand. Weighing just under a pound, its compact, triangular shape fits comfortably in one hand, making it perfect for travel or outdoor adventures. The durable, IP67-rated casing ensures the Roam 2 is both water-resistant and dustproof, an essential feature for those who want to take their music to the beach, pool, or hiking trails. The slightly improved tactile controls and modern aesthetic are a testament to Sonos’ attention to user-friendly design.Sound QualitySonos has a reputation for delivering high-quality audio, and the Roam 2 is no exception. For a speaker of its size, the sound is remarkably full and balanced. The crisp highs, clear mids, and punchy bass ensure an immersive listening experience, whether you’re enjoying a podcast or a bass-heavy playlist. The speaker features Auto TruePlay technology, which adjusts the sound based on its surroundings, creating an optimal audio profile whether indoors or outdoors. This feature, in particular, sets the Roam 2 apart from many competitors, who often struggle with sound quality in varied environments.Battery LifeOne of the most notable upgrades in the Sonos Roam 2 is its extended battery life. With up to 15 hours of playtime on a single charge, it offers a significant improvement over the original Roam’s 10-hour lifespan. Additionally, the device supports wireless charging via Qi-compatible pads, as well as a USB-C cable for those who prefer traditional charging methods. This versatility ensures that you’ll never be without your favorite tunes for long.Smart Features and ConnectivityThe Sonos Roam 2 truly shines in its smart features. Built-in support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant means that voice commands are just a call away. Setting alarms, controlling smart home devices, or queuing up playlists is seamless and hands-free. The speaker also supports Apple AirPlay 2, enabling easy streaming from iOS devices. Moreover, the ability to switch effortlessly between Wi-Fi at home and Bluetooth when on the move ensures a smooth and hassle-free experience. One of the unique selling points of the Sonos Roam 2 is its integration within the broader Sonos ecosystem. Pair it with other Sonos speakers for synchronized, multi-room audio, or use it in stereo mode with a second Roam 2 for an enhanced auditory experience. This level of versatility is rare among portable speakers and makes the Roam 2 a valuable addition to any home audio setup.DrawbacksWhile the Sonos Roam 2 excels in many areas, it is not without its shortcomings. While the bass performance is impressive for its size, true bass aficionados might feel it falls short when compared to larger, more powerful speakers.ConclusionThe Sonos Roam 2 is a stellar upgrade to an already impressive portable speaker. In short, the Sonos Roam 2 is a compact powerhouse that doesn’t compromise on quality, making it one of the best portable speakers available today.Ver más

Amazing sound quality

Bought two of these to extend my home sound system onto my back deck. They pair seamlessly with my current system through WiFi and setup was extremely easy. Transferring audio from inside to outside or playing throughout the whole house is simple and intuitive. The Alexa capabilities worked flawlessly as did the built in Sonos voice control. I have them mounted on my deck but can easily remove them to take anywhere. As for the quality… absolutely perfect! My deck is 25’ x 48’ and these two small speakers fill the space beautifully. The sound even projects into my backyard well enough for any family gathering or party. The bluetooth capability also syncs perfectly with my projector for backyard movie night. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase.Ver más

Sonos comes through again!

I own a lot of Sonos products, and this one is like the rest good quality and the sound is awesome for the size of the speakers. It connected quickly with my Sonos system and it functions well. As far as the cost, I bought it pre prime days and got a really good deal the value for the money is great. Programing the Alex part was a little tricky but I got it done. I would suggest reaching out for help with it instead of returning the speaker, it well worth the money.Ver más

Nice travel speaker

I was looking for a portable travel speaker that felt worth packing in a suitcase, and I'm happy with this purchase. The sound quality is impressive for its size, and it's more than enough for casual listening. Battery life could be better—I get around 6–7 hours per charge—but it's adequate for occasional use, whether I'm showering, enjoying a morning coffee, or bringing it to the beach.Connecting through both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is quick and straightforward. There are definitely other speakers with longer battery life and arguably better value for the money. However, for my needs—good portability, decent sound quality, and easy everyday use—the Roam 2 has been a solid purchase.Ver más

Underwhelming performance

So, the positives right up front. Very small and portable. Simplistic but stylish. Easy to use and setup. Love the dedicated Bluetooth. Comes well packaged from Sonos. Very small and for its size, puts out good volume. Now the potential cons. I have a Sonos Arc and the Sonos Move (1st Gen). Got them both for a great sale price and the sound quality never ceases to impress me. Especially the Move, which even at very high volumes plays great music from rock, country and rap. I bought the roam to be more portable than my Move, which I use on the deck, poolside or at small gatherings. The Roam was more for hiking, beach trips and casual listening washing the car, etc. I have to say I am not impressed. It sounds decent at its highest volume although you can tell you’ve reached its limit. I never feel like any of my other Sonos products have hit a limit even at 100% volume. It also sounds almost flat and very mono sounding vs steep or simulated stereo. Worse, it’s okay with rock or country or anything that has very little bass, but don’t try and play any kind of rap or hip hip. The bass is almost non-existent and really makes it feel like you’re pushing the speakers beyond their capabilities.Granted, most small portable like this would have similar issues, but when I listen to my sons JBL Flip 5, which costs less than half the price, I feel like the bass is much richer and the sound is louder, but of relatively similar quality as the Sonos, which is very disappointing. Maybe I’m missing the mark on its intended use, but I don’t think so. For small sound and high portability, it’s okay, but feels overpriced when compared to a couple others for what it offers.Would have considered a slightly larger roam in its 2nd generation for larger speakers or drivers or a dedicated bass port. I’ll have to sample it for a while and along others. I’m on the fence keeping it vs returning it. I’ll update my decision later.UPDATE: okay, after using it down at the beach, I would have to say my opinion has changed some. While I still would like a bit more volume, it’s pretty good for small spaces and close to me or around the pool or campfire. Sound has grown on me for most music and I recognize what it is for its ultra portability. Battery life is good and it’s been easy to pair. Loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud as to annoy others around me at the beach. I bought it at full price for $179. If you wait for Prime Day or other major sales days, it drops to $143, which is a much more reasonable price where it’s worth it.

You can't "ROAM" with this -- battery dies within 1-2 hours with full charge.

Not worth the cost!! Not portable! Battery dies within 1-2 hours with full charge. There are much better and less expensive portable speakers on the market, with much longer battery life.I am not normally one to write reviews. However, I'm frustrated and disappointed. As someone who has invested a lot of money getting the SONOS Play 1 & equipping my entire house with surround sound, I've respected SONOS for a long time. I even overlooked the lack of bluetooth and airplay compatibility in the (originally $600+ Play 1 system). Despite being an easy and common feature in most speakers. To this day, I still can't connect youtube or soundcloud to the Play 1 speakers. And many other things. That said..... I do love the sound quality of SONOS and recently wanted to invest in a small, portable speaker for work. From Day 1, this "roam" speaker has had a battery life of 1-2 hours, max after a full charge. It is essentially useless without being plugged in. I am wishing I would have invested into Bose instead.Between the Play 1 limited capabilities and now the Roam battery issues, I don't think I will continue to purchase from SONOS. Do NOT buy this speaker if you're looking for PORTABLE. The charge does not last.Ver más
