My mind is blown - amazing addition to the Fatal Series!!
Marie force is definitely a “force” to be reckoned with. She has created a world of Sam and nick that is amazing and all consuming. I have never looked more forward to a book from a series releasing and feel the need to devour it immediately. Sam and Nick are my relationship goals. I feel so connected to them. Marie force has created a masterpiece with the these characters and all their lives encompass. It has love, suspense, romance, along with a bad**s cop who doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap. You would think after 14 books in a series, you would be tired of them. I can honestly say I am more involved and can’t wait to see what the future holds.Sam and nick have been on quite the journey in their lives. They have been shot at, tried to be blown to pieces, “stahlked” (nice play on words, huh?), been debated and everything you can imagine in between. Their story started out hot and it has disintegrated my kindle as I’ve read more and more. Their love is strong enough to make it through any of the circumstances. This book was especially meaningful because it focuses on her dad. He has passed away and I cried buckets and buckets. She does what she always does and closes the case. In between, you will cry, laugh and swoon over the interaction between all the important people in her life. Nick is always there for her, along with the kids and close police personnel she works with. An amazing book I highly recommend - starting with the first in the series of course.This book resonated with me more than any of her books. I lost my dad a couple of years ago and i went through every emotion that was described with Sam. It was an amazing tale of rebirth and dealing with death in the best way you can. Even at the end, she states so many true statements about death and dealing with life after a loved ones death. Amazing, spectacular job Marie Force! I cannot day enough good words about this book! One of the Best Fatal Books Ever!!
I knew this book would be AMAZING but it is truly beyond amazing!! We have come to know and love Sam & Skip (her dad) in all of the many fatal books and their close relationship is one that if you don't have with your dad you would envy. I have this kind of relationship with my dad and even though I haven't lost my dad, you can't help but feel Sam's pain and that you are losing one of the own members of your family. Speaking for myself, I feel as if Sam & all are part of my family and that I lost a dearly beloved member myself. So knowing that Marie was having to write this book after the loss of her own dad (who Skip is based on a lot) is just unreal. This book gives you both the heartbreak of the loss of the dearly loved Skip but it also gives you hope that Sam will make it through the loss of her first best friend and confidant.I cried so much thru this book because the storyline of Skip's death, Sam's reaction, as well as the family, was just heartbreaking. I'm so VERY glad that Marie didn't rush thru and try to just get over Skip's death and allowed this book to focus on it throughout the whole book and gave us all the resolution to Skip's case. I NEVER saw that coming. Marie did an amazing job of keeping us guessing and I just love that.This is an amazing series and I just love Sam & Nick. They are true soulmates and even though I'm a cynic on love (after being burnt twice), Marie draws me in to where you want this kind of love for yourself. You'll not only get amazing romance and love between Sam and Nick, but there is suspense in every book in the series. Marie does an amazing job keeping the readers invested and the characters and the stories fresh. If you haven't read the Fatal series, you need to start this series. A wonderful tribute to Skip
Wow, this book was filled with every emotion I have every experienced while reading one book.Sam's dad's case is finally solved and the repercussions will still be felt in the next book, I don't see how they can't be. There were bombshells dropping one after the other as this case unfolded. I didn't see the entire ending coming and gasped at the end when the truth came out.In the sadness of his death we got to see little moments of Skip before he was gunned down. It was bittersweet to see him as a strong virile man who touched so many lives. He was generous and kind and patient and he loved his family with all that he had. He sacrificed so much for the city he loved.It was a hard book to read in that so many times tears made the words blurry and for the first 8 chapters that's what happened. I would have ruined the paperback if I had read that instead of the Kindle version. I actually had to walk away for a little while because the emotion was so intense. Ms. Force drew me in and I cared about Skip and cried for him as if her were a real person.Nick is Sam's rock and they have weathered so much together even as they are still figuring things out as a family and now the "littles" as Nick calls them to care for. Nick is the kind of character I wish were real. The love that he has for Sam is timeless and she loves him the same. It's the love they have that keeps me coming back and the love that they have for their friends. Sam may not show it much but she deeply cares about her police family and her relationship with her partner Freddie provided some comic relief, in a way they remind me of Laurel and Hardy.This book was in my opinion the best so far and honestly that's hard to say because they have all been so so good. This one just had so much more emotion packed into it and add that to the stress of the Stahl trial and well it drew out all kinds of emotions but must of all hope.Sam will be okay because she has the incredible love of her husband who always knows what she needs and puts her first above all else, not easy to do when you are vice president! It was a hard story to read but the story was told with sensitivity, memories, love, and more action and OMG moments then I can count. It it an amazing book in and amazing series and I am just in awe. I am glad there are more stories to tell because the thought of this series ending is not on that I want to consider anytime soon. Ms. Force captured every emotion perfectly and made me feel like I was actually there witnessing it all. Amazing.

Strong Story With Minor Issues
Given that this is Book 14 in the Fatal Series, it is clear that readers buying this novel are predisposed to like it. It would be ludicrous to start with a book this far along in the series and anyone who wasn't a fan would have dropped out long ago. That being said, this book is definitely worth the 4 or 5 stars reviewers are giving it, unlike some cases where fans of an author will give anything that is churned out top reviews.There is a lot of angst in the book. Marie Force's depiction of the relationship between Sam and her father over the arc of the series is masterful. I was interested to see that this connection is based on Force's own relationship with her father. Since this novel starts with Skip's death, be prepared to pull out the tissues. I bawled my way through the first few chapters. Given that Ms. Force's own father died during the writing of Fatal Reckoning, it must have been doubly gut-wrenching to write.So why not 5 stars? There are some issues that caused me pause. The phrase 'Loose lips sink ships' comes to mind. At a critically important time in an investigation that will rock the whole police department and shake the city's confidence in the top command, too many people are told about what is happening. even after the chief indicates that it is critically important that no details are shared. The most bizarre person to get involved (not a spoiler) is the retired officer from Book 12, my least favorite in the series. This is a man with alcoholic issues, PTSD, and carrying tremendous guilt for his actions. It is hard to imagine someone less likely to be emotionally stable, yet knowing he is friends with one of the suspects, he is still told what is happening. This is not a person I would trust with any secret, let alone one of this magnitude which could have sidetracked the whole investigation.There is a lot of repetition in the book. The reader is hit over the head a dozen times with the statement that Skip is now free. I love the image of him walking able-bodied in heaven, but didn't need to told he is free from suffering this many times. It's obvious to all. Sam and Nick's relationship is stronger than ever. it is definitely one of the best in the romantic suspense genre. I could live without the third person speaking which happens a number of times. 'Take care of my wife. Tell my wife I love her. Be careful with my cop. I know how bad she's hurting right now.' This is all said while talking directly to Sam, who responds with, 'She loves you too.' At one point, we even get the same paragraph three pages apart about Nick being the only person to be able to make Sam life in the middle of what is going around. I'm surprised this wasn't caught during proof-reading.The series is filled with strong secondary characters; friends, colleagues, and family. Scotty is definitely a stand-out. So, all in all, a great read for 'Fatal' lovers. It is highly unusual that this far along in a series, that readers are still hooked. Kudos to Ms. Force.

The series is consistently thrilling to read
Fatal Reckoning is all about the death of Skip Holland and Sam’s path to solving his four year old shooting. Various player’s who’d made up her father’s inner circle are included. The trail leads to in-house deceptions. I’m invested in this series, characters, storylines, so this book was an emotional read. I’ve enjoyed Skips character and he will be missed, but as in true Marie Force fashion, she keeps her books real and portrays life naturally. Fatal Series is my all time favorite series with an awesome couple that star in each book. The series is consistently thrilling to read and always leaves me satisfied.NOTE: This is a continuing series that should be read in order. The storylines of each book are built on throughout the series. I would NOT start with this book-start at the beginning, Fatal Affair.Ver másVer menos

Tear jerker!
I have enjoyed reading this series so much, strong characters, love the honesty between them and that the people close to the main couple get their stories told as well. This book though was particularly sad throughout, I haven’t cried over fictional characters as hard as I did in this book. That tells you how well it’s written to how involved I have become with this series. I’m glad that 2 mysteries were solved and can’t wait to see what happens next. Particularly for Gonzo as he needs his HEAVer másVer menos

BEST FATAL BOOK YET! A MUST READ!!!!
Marie Force I just finished Fatal Reckoning last night. I have to say I cried for the majority of the book. So much reminded me of the passing of my dad back in Nov 8 2016 and then putting him at his final resting place on May 1 2017. So much emotions came out. Hubby tried to cuddle with me a couple nights ago while reading and I told him he had to just leave me alone. I was into the book and I had to read it as I was actually finding this book a healing time for me. So Marie I have to say what a wonderful story. So much shock I do have to say. I shook my head from mid point to the end of the book. I can't imaging writing Skip's passing as you were going though the passing of your own father. But again I have to say this book has helped me.My heart broke for Sam and the family including the MPD. After you read a book or two in a series you tend to get close to some if not all the characters. Well I felt close to Skip,Sam,Nick and the rest of the characters. When they laughed I laughed. When they cried I cried. My heart broke when Skip died. My heart shattered even more as Sam and the rest of the team went back and investigated the now homicide of Dep. Chief Skip Holland. The events that took place my heart sank,shattered and I was SO MAD just like Sam was. This book has solved some unanswered questions of the past but still leaves me with a few. Raw. Riveting. Remarkable.
I have read all of Marie Force’s books, so to say that this is the best of the series, if not her all time best is saying quite a lot. This is one of the most emotional, compelling, heart wrenching books I have ever read, yet none of it is over the top. Anyone who has lost a parent, or lost someone to a crime will feel a special connection to Sam as she contemplates life without Skip. This book grabs the reader from the first chapter and doesn’t let up, as Sam vows to solve her father’s murder. While Sam’s quest, and Skip’s remarkable life and the outpouring of love for them both dominate the book, it is not without the usual cast of characters, who step up in the most heartwarming of ways, and advance their own stories. Freddie and Gonzo are stand outs, as is Avery Hill. Despite the grief, there is laughter and there is love. So much love. Sam is one strong lady, as is Marie Force, whose own father became ill and passed away while she was writing this book. Both soldier through, despite overwhelming sadness, to do what they do best – Sam to solve her father’s murder and Marie to create this most remarkable read. Kudos!Ver másVer menos

Not enough words to describe just how awesome this story was.
5 stars are seriously not enough for this gut-wrenching, heart-stopping emotional roller coaster of a story but I'll be honest it was that good I'm not sure there are enough stars in the universe to do it justice.Wow, seriously I am blubbering from the first chapter and even though I knew it was coming it's still damn hard to read, 14 books in and this series is like family, every character holds a special place in my heart and Skip Holland was the glue that held everything and everyone together, now it's going to be up to Nick to step up and become the glue or I'm worried this gorgeous family may crumble.This book was so hard to read as news spread about Skip each and every person affected by his passing were so devastated, but I just had to keep reading one, this was for Skip who is one of the most memorable characters I've had the utmost pleasure to read and two I needed justice, we all need justice for Skip, so no matter how many tears fell, no matter the tissues strewn all over my desk I couldn't look away, my heart was breaking over and over but I had to keep reading Skip Holland deserved everyone to be completely enthralled in this book.That was the most epically, emotional, amazing story I've read so far this year, as an avid fan of Marie Force and especially her Fatal series I knew this one would be gut-wrenching I wasn't fully prepared for the shocking twists, I had wondered about some but not the full extent of the Sh.t Show that unfolded.Ver másVer menos

An absolutely thrilling who-done-it
While reading this latest masterpiece by Marie Force, I had an epiphany of why I read every one of her books. So many times while reading a book, a voice in my head often chants a mantra - "come on already, get to the good stuff." When reading books by Marie Force, I have realized that voice is quiet, because every line Marie writes is the "good stuff"....Every. Last. Word.Fatal Reckoning is the latest release in Force's Fatal Series and it's a doozy. In fact, I don't think I'm stretching my review to say this is the best book so far in the series and that is saying a lot since the entire series is extraordinary to begin with. I won't bother with a synopsis of the plot, you can get that from other reviews or the book blurb about this book. What I will say is read this book. You won't be sorry. If this is the first book in the series you're considering....you may want to start at the very beginning with Fatal Affair and enjoy the bliss of working through a great series. ...Or you can read it as a stand-alone as all books in the series are. Either way, you will never be disappointed with a book written by Marie Force. Mostly you're just gonna be totally captivated.Ver másVer menos

Sad, but a great read
Fantastic addition to the series. Heartwrenching and full of intrigue. Sad to see Skip go as I enjoyed the interactions between him and Sam. Almost felt like an end to the series so I'm interested to see where this will head in the next book.

Loving the fatal and state of series
This book of the series is a culmination of the things that have happened previously, and is so emotionally charged I couldn't put it down. I am so glad their story continues in the state of series. I love books that follow a couple through their life and encompasses the life's of their friends and family.I started reading the state of series of books and realised they were a continuation from the fatal series. I am so glad I started reading these. The audio books that go with these by Eva is so great it brings the stories to life. I am a big fan of J D Robb's Eve Dallas series, so much so I re-read. I am looking forward to Marie's series just as much, I have bought the audio books for that purpose. After these I will be looking at other books by Marie.Ver másVer menos
