  Sharp-looking insulated water bottles keep liquids hot or cold for many hours

  Mont-Clair Stainless Steel Water Bottle, 12h Hot & 24h Cold Drinks Bottle, Vacuum insulated/BPA Free, Metal, 17 oz Leakproof (Black)—These insulated bottles are good looking and well made. They are lined with stainless steel ("SUS 304" is stamped onto the inside bottom of the bottle). I'm not sure why it's become trendy to brag about the classification of the stainless steel used in products—plus there's so much false information thrown around by unreliable sellers that brags about materials are often just lies. Mont-Clair has a decent reputation, however, so I have no reason to believe that these bottles are not SUS 304-lined. But what does that tell us? This kind of stainless steel, I have read, is the one most commonly used in food-wares. It's also called 18/8 stainless for the percentages of chromium (18%) and nickel (8%) in it.The way 18/8 stainless remains stainless is interesting. The chromium in it binds with oxygen in the air to form a "self-healing" protective shield over the metal, stopping water and air from causing rust. This mechanism explains why you have to take care not to damage the top layer of the steel: no dishwashers, no scratchy cleaners or utensils, no heavily salted liquids or highly acidic ones (like some fruit juices and bleach cleaners). You also need to let it dry between uses to allow the protective layer to regenerate.This is a vacuum insulated bottle. The promotional copy promises cold maintenance for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. I didn't see anywhere where it specified how much heat loss is considered "maintaining" the temperature, because of course the contents shift towards the ambient temperature, just more slowly than if they weren't in an insulated container. I tested the heat maintenance with hot tap water. It was 133ºF when I closed the bottle (yes, our hot water is Hot!). By 5 hours later in a room at about 80º, the water had dropped 25 degrees to 108ºF. That's still hot to the touch, but no longer burning hot. At 12º from the start it was 106º. The further away from the ambient temperature the water was, the faster it dropped, which makes sense. At 24 hours from the start of test, the water was still warm, at 92º, which might be okay if you don't need your beverage steaming hot (and 12 hours is the extent of time Mont-Clair promises for keeping liquids hot).The bottle I received is the smallest of the series, the 500 mL (17 oz). That's enough for a couple cups of coffee or water for tea for your breakfast, perhaps. Brewed tea might be too acidic for the steel, I'm not sure. But these bottles come in three sizes, up to 1 liter (34 ounces). A full one liter bottle of liquid would retain its temperature better, but of course, be heavier and bulkier.These are not wide mouth "thermoses". The opening on my 500 mL one is 1.3 inches across, so this would not be suitable for eating out of or putting soups or stews in that have large chunks in them. I think the bottle mouth size is the same for all the bottle sizes, judging by the illustrations, but I'm not sure. In any case, it's wide enough to clean with a thick bottle brush, and you will need to use one to access the bottom.The one I received is black. It looks classy, but I would have chosen purple or the light green or blue. There are at least a dozen different color options, including some ombre gradient ones that are cool looking. The shiny silver one is eye-catching, too. The styling of the bottle is clean and sharp throughout. The logo is three mountain peaks with a zigzag pattern and there's discreet "Mont-Clair" printed below the logo, near the bottom—the printing is only on one side.The prices for these were remarkably affordable when I ordered and even lower now. The 17 oz black one is only $10. The biggest ones range from $15 to $18 depending on the color (the gradients ones are the most expensive and the black ones the cheapest). High-end brand name thermoses are close to triple these prices. I don't know how the performance compares, but I'd bet you pay a lot of the name recognition. These work well, look very nice and won't den't your piggy bank much.Ver másVer menos

  Stays Hot Or Cold Longtime

  This bottle has it all.The first thing I look for is size. Can this fit in a car cup holder? The answer is yes.From there it’s all positive feedback.Made of stainless steel, this bottle keeps hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold. And not just for a while. My cold drink was filled at night and when I woke in the morning, it was still cold. This could be due to the tight seal. And I don’t need to crank on it to seal the bottle. It seals with very little torque. It’s easy to open and easy to close.The exterior finish of the bottle is smooth. And it’s easy to carry because of the shape of the bottle. The bottom is designed so that it does not topple over easily.I have seen more and more of this style of water bottles around. At the gym, on campus and even at the workplace. The capacity of this bottle gets me through the day with only a few refills.The size of the bottle easily fits in the fridge or a cooler. It’s easy to store and easy to clean.   Sanitary stainless steel.

  I have the black,17 ounce version of this water bottle. It looks sleek and minimal and it's built like a tank. This was a good value because the cost is similar to inferior bottles made with plastic or nonstick coatings. The 17 ounce size holds enough water for a day but it fits in a large purse.I am slowly replacing all my kitchen goods with nontoxic materials like stainless steel and cast iron. In addition to being sanitary and non-toxic, these materials will be durable for years.Why should my water bottle be an exception? I appreciate that this bottle is made of sanitary and durable stainless steel. The black exterior seems to be powder coated metal. This bottle will probably last for years.It's very sturdy. It's relatively lightweight to carry but there is a heft to it. The walls seem thick and insulated. I haven't tested it with hot beverages, but it kept ice water cold all day despite the Summer heat.The cap has a long stopper to prevent leaks. So far the leakproof claim holds up. I appreciate that the top is relatively simple and there aren't a lot of small parts to clean. I could use this bottle for coffee or iced tea as well as water if needed. I usually stick to water with my other bottle which has a complicated lid I need to disassemble and scrub.Ver másVer menos

  Good well make water bottle.

  This is a well made bottle. It feels sturdy the cap goes down into the neck of the bottle to help keep things cool/hot. I filled it with hot water and left it out over night the outside of the bottle didn't get warm (this happens with badly made bottles that don't hold in the heat). The water was 142° at 7pm and 105° at 7am that seems pretty good considering I didn't preheat the inside (I just didn't think to). Its a good size for taking with you. My only gripe would be that the lid is very smooth and so can be a little hard to open if your hands are wet. Over all its a good well make water bottle.Ver másVer menos

  Solid little bottle that actually keeps drinks cold

  Got this through Vine and it’s been in my bag pretty much every day since, with the exception of washing it. The 17 oz size is perfect. Not too bulky for the gym or a run, but still holds enough water that I’m not constantly refilling. Silver finish looks clean and simple.Insulation works as advertised. I filled it with ice water in the morning and it was still properly cold late afternoon. Hot coffee stayed warm for a good chunk of the day too. Lid seals tight; tossed it in my backpack a few times with no leaks.Feels sturdy, no weird plastic taste, and it’s easy to clean.   Keeps Drinks Perfectly Tempered
