Wholesome and sweet
I loved the vivid imagery in the stories set over 100 years ago. The characters were so charming and endearing.

wonderful Classic
A wonderful series of books that all children should read. The first two books would be great for boys and girls, but I think that the remaining ones will hold the interest of girls better.

Don’t Stop!
Absolutely loved these books. I only wish there were more. I would have loved to see exactly what the future held for Anne and Gilbert’s grown children.

It's a beautiful experience, following a fictional character from childhood to middle age. To be able to see an adult manifest the dreams of their childhood, and then to get their hearts broken by cruel realities, only to heal and emerge more vibrant than their childhood fancies could have ever conceived.Anne Shirley is a beautiful person. She's as real as you or I. Her story is touching and poignant and I carry it around in my heart as a part of me. That's what makes it real to me.Sometimes, these books meander on and on without an objective. Just like life does at times. Sometimes, symbolic, serendipitous moments occur, just like in real life. Some of the books have no distinguishable climax, and others had me in tears or joy and agony at the end. As the series progresses, the narratives become more polished and story-like, less meandering. That makes them more compelling to read from a certain standpoint, from the perspective of wanting to be entertained by a story. However, I found myself missing the meandering to some extent...I love this series. It's a strange love. A love I haven't quite figured out how to articulate. But overall, I am just glad these books exist.Ver másVer menos

A must read for the 8 - 88's
Anne of Green Gables has been an absolute favourite of mine since I was a little girl more than sixty years ago.I adore the whole series, and MUST read all of the books every year, as well as watch the movies of the same series.I have the paper versions of the complete series, but because I am a traveller, I just had to buy the Amazon Kindle versionto take with me around the world.I love Anne of Green Gables so much that a few years ago, I had to visit Prince Edward Island, Canada.I was enthralled.I actually sat in the very chair where Lucy Maud wrote these wonderful books.I saw the Lake of Shining Waters, the Great White Way, and so much more.If you want to relive your childhood, or encurage your young child, or grandchild, to begin a lifelong love of reading,then you could not choose a better way to start than with Anne of Green Gables.Ver másVer menos

Brilliant and timeless
I love LM Montgomery. So much pathos in this family saga. People often overlook books like this for being simple. They miss that this book was a sum of the culture of the times. The characters are lovely and sketched out. You get the whole family saga in these pages— of dreams and times long ago. Somehow LM’s writing makes one feel that their life is important and that being good is easy. These books have depth and really courageously look life in the face. The inner worlds of women are briefly opened up. The nature writing is very lovely, capturing scenes of rural pastoral with the pathos of their time. A classic.Ver másVer menos

wonderful stories - didn’t want to end
This set of 8 books is delightful! I wish it could go on and on! What wonderful characters! I’m recommending to all my friends!

最後まで読みたい名作です
和文、英文それぞれ文庫本も持っているのですが、後期高齢者なので、拡大文字で読めるのが嬉しいです。長編ですが、ゆっくりあせらず、かつ速読を心がけながら、情景を思い描きながら何とか読み進めています。頭の体操にもなっているようです。名作ですのでお勧めです。

Anne of Green Gables, the first book in a delightful series.
It's a fantastic book. I've read it lots of times when I was younger, and I've found it just as good now. The other Anne books are to follow. Anne of the Island is my absolute favourite, so I'm looking forward to that one.The very first time I heard this story was when I was 9 and the BBC dramatised it starring Kim Braden as Anne and then I read the book, which was very similar to the mini series that I'd watched. Then the BBC did Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island, together in one series, and Anne had grown a bit older and looked dreamy eyed, and, in my opinion, Kim Braden played that role marvelously!I've seen other versions of this story, but there is no comparison to Kim as Anne, and when I read these books, it's always Kim Braden as Anne in my mind.I have a copy of Anne of Avonlea on dvd, but I CAN NOT get Anne of G.G.(the 1972 miniseries) anywhere because, apparently, the archives have been lost! So disappointing.I don't know why I've gone on this rant about dvd's in a book review but it would be interesting to see if anyone feels the same or even HAS a copy of this 1972 version of Anne.The Kevin Sullivan's version of this is OK for the first book but he has completely ruined the second and third books ( in the televised version) in my opinion, and the actual books are much better! In the second Kevin Sullivan's dvd, he has based it more on "Anne of Windy Willows(or poplars)," which, to be fair, I've never read because I never wanted to! Beautiful classics
Loved the story! Wonderful books, the first five books are all about Anne and the rest are about her family.

Loved reading every page of this Book Set…….Kept me entertained for a month! Feel like I have lost friends now I have come to the end.
