Globular Cluster saves another headset

Anyone familiar with the Quest Pro will remember how necessary the GC comfort kit was to making that headset usable, and the same applies here. In the stock setup the Galaxy XR requires you to vice grip the headset to your head to achieve acceptable field-of-view and reduce vignetting. This will quickly leave your forehead screaming.With the Globular Cluster comfort kit, you are able to get closer to the lenses due to a smaller forehead pad, and the rear pad provides much more support so the weight of the headset isn't sitting entirely on your forehead. You still need the headset fairly tight to maximize FoV, so the top strap doesn't add a whole ton for me, but it is nice that it is there. When I took the headset off after my first play session with the comfort kit, I was amazed at how little discomfort I felt. It was instantly apparent just how much of a difference it made.The kit comes with several pieces. Six forehead pads -- two different styles (pleather vs fabric) in three different sizes each. Three rear head pads -- pleather, fabric, and "silicone honeycomb" which works well to grip long hair. And a top strap. I like the thin fabric forehead pad + honeycomb rear + top strap. The thicker forehead pads are more comfortable, but come at a cost of reduced field-of-view / increased vignetting.The rear pad is a bit annoying to get on and takes a lot of force to snap the default bracket off. I stabbed myself with the pry tool several times in the process. Thankfully, you only need to do this once, and it really is unavoidable from GC's end. The forehead pads are applied with velcro rather than magnets. This seems cheap, but is an intentional decision by them to reduce the distance from the lenses. I really wish it came in grey to match the headset!If there is anything wrong with your order, or you want to order from a country they do not ship to, etc, just drop them an email! This kit is a total game changer and revolutionizes the Galaxy XR

I ordered my Galaxy XR weekend before last and received it last Wednesday. Before actually receiving it, I had read a bunch of comments from people stating that comfort was an issue for a lot of people. Having had experience with both Quest 3 and PSVR2 previously, needing to modify a headset with accessories to make it even approach being wearable for hours at a time was not an unfamiliar concept for me. Unfortunate for sure, but not unfamiliar. Thankfully, before I’d even received the headset, someone posted on an forum about Globular Cluster releasing a comfort kit for the Galaxy XR. Having used numerous of their products in the past and liking every single one of them, and knowing their customer service is incredible, I leapt to the site to order one. Unfortunately, they were sold out on both the GC site and Amazon. Not to be deterred, I found an old email thread where I’d corresponded with GC about some unrelated issue and asked when these kits would be available again. To my absolute shock, he told me to go check Amazon right then, because he’d just made some available. I quickly ordered on the spot.Fast travel to today, and a package from China arrived on my doorstep not long after I got home from work. I anxiously opened it up. The kit comes with 6 forehead pads of varying thickness (3 soft grey fabric and 3 PU leather), a new rear cup to replace the stock one, a plastic adapter piece for the rear cup, 3 rear pads (PU leather, soft grey fabric, and a soft grippy honeycomb), a strip of specially cut Velcro tape for the forehead, a somewhat stretchy branded top strap, and a plastic shim/pry tool. There’s an instruction booklet included which I totally proceeded to ignore, instead opting to go to the GC website and load up their installation video. It was very clear and easy to follow. The most difficult part is removing the stock rear pad, but that’s not a difficult task so much as it just takes more force than you’d like and I was afraid to break my new very expensive headset. Once I managed just a little bit more confidence and I put a little more effort in, the stock back cushion popped right off. Once you get that done, it’s a simple matter of snapping in the adapter piece, snapping in the rear cup, attaching your rear pad of choice, sticking on the forehead Velcro tape, attaching the top strap, and slapping on your forehead pad of choice then Bob’s your uncle.The varying thickness of forehead pads allow you to choose how much padding you want at the expense of closeness to the lenses and POV, or how thin you want the pad to be so you can slam your eyeballs into those viewports for maximum power. I tried the medium option, but then settled on max power mode so that I could get the most FOV.Needless to say, this kit has been a total game changer in the limited time I’ve had to use it. I’m not getting the pressure in my forehead that I was getting and the deep seated need to rip the headset off of my head hasn’t returned this evening after installing the kit. I think that still may be a focal plane issue and have some reader-strength lenses on the way this week to assist with that, but this GC kit is the absolute truth and for the asking price it comes with a ridiculous amount of customization and significantly improves the comfort. It’s an amazing value for what you get. Very strongly recommended.

One size FINALLY fits ALL

I would like to first start off with saying how much better the experience of using this device has gotten after installing this comfort mod, I was not able to use this headset for longer than 30 minutes without getting forehead discomfort. Depending on what forehead pad thickness you use, you could get increased field of view and better clarity through these lenses. It's important to try to get your eyes as close to the headset's lenses as you can without causing any physical discomfort for the best possible visuals.In this kit you get multiple thicknesses for absorbent foam pads and non-absorbent pu leather pads, a silicone 'honeycomb' non-absorbent rear headrest pad that has great grip, a velcro top strap, and a velcro sticker to stick on the forehead mount.The initial installation seems quite difficult as you have to pry the stock rear headrest off by undoing a number of clips, but the included instructions had a link to a video that made it easy to understand. Reversing this change should be possible as long as you don't damage the original rear headrest, in case you wanted to revert the headset to its stock configuration. The whole process took under 15-20 minutes for me, I did not damage anything in the process. You then take the included velcro sticker, remove the stock forehead pad by simply pulling it off, then stick the sticker on the forehead rest. The velcro sticker does not interfere with the stock forehead pad in case you wanted to use that, but I would highly recommend using the forehead pads included in the kit.You're able to tailor the comfort of this headset to your liking, making it viable to wear for longer sessions. I personally use the top strap, pu pad on the rear and the thinnest pu pad for the forehead for the best possible FOV. I have tried the honeycomb rear pad but it had a little bit too much grip for my liking, making it difficult to quickly slide off/on my headset, the material itself is great though and seems very durable.The only thing I would want added or changed about this kit would be to add some counterweights for the rear of the headset. The kit is already great for the price though.In summary, if you're dealing with comfort issues with your Galaxy XR and would like to tailor the comfort of this headset to your liking with a multitude of options, this is definitely the product for you.

This is an incredible value for the price. It comes with a variety of cushions in different materials and thicknesses, so you can really customize the fit. It’s easily one of the most comfortable setups I’ve used!

Your forehead will thank you!

Excellent comfort. Like a pillow on your head. Top strap makes the difference. The thin forehead pads allow me to keep the lenses close to my eyes maximimizing FOV. There are many forehead pads to choose from in the box (like 6?), and 3 rear head pads to choose from. Installing took a bit, but not too difficult.Ver más
