GameSir Super Nova, So Many Great Features, Amazing Value
There’s a 4 month update at the bottom:This controller is awesome. I found out about GameSir when I was shopping for a phone mount bluetooth controller. I had a Back Bone I paid $100 for, but I hated it. It was ok, but I don't want to risk my $1000 phone by taking the case off to use a controller. So I shopped around and decided after looking at a lot of more expensive controllers on the GameSir X2S. I was very impressed by the X2S for the price, so after I had it and used it a lot over the course of months, I decided to check out what else GameSir made and maybe look for an upgrade, or a controller for PC.I have to admit I was surprised to see what controllers GameSir offers that have so many high end features for such a cheap price. I am sick to death of console controllers. I've been pretty lucky with Playstation controllers, but Xbox controllers have been garbage for me. I have THREE almost brand new Xbox controllers that all have stick drift. It's ridiculous, because none of my original Xbox 360 or Xbox One controllers from the early days have any issues. So I have been in the market for a controller with hall effect analog sticks for a few months now. After I saw GameSir, a brand that I have had a good experience with made controllers decked out with all the best features for such a cheap price, I jumped on one after a short period of consideration. This controller is awesome, you have no idea how long I've been wanting a controller with a turbo function! I am getting old and I have arthritis in my hands, so I can't do a lot of the stuff that you have to do for some games, or I can, but it's very uncomfortable. The turbo function makes that much easier. Also, the controller, the Super Nova model I got, has two triggers on the back. Usually, I don't like rear triggers, but the way these ones are designed is awesome and they have a textured surface to make finding them by feel all the easier. One of the things I struggle with is pushing in the analog buttons, L3 and R3, that really bothers my thumb joints. But you can map any button to the rear triggers, so I mapped the L3 and R3 buttons to the triggers and it's so much more comfortable for me. There's features on this controller I haven't messed with yet, so I'm not going to mention everything. One of the things I was a little apprehensive about was the hall effect analog sticks. I was worried they might respond strangely. But the first thing I did was fire up some God of War Ragnarok, and I was able to get around in the game, and aim, without any issues whatsoever. They feel pretty much the same as an Xbox or Playstation controller. The analogs have a nice textured lip on the top. That's a feature I always appreciate, you don't always see that on a controller unless you buy one with it specifically. Although, I always prefer to use a set of Kontrol Freeks CQB Rush analog grips, so I figured I'd try a set designed for PS5 controllers, and they fit perfect, and they're staying on without any issues. The triggers, L2 and R2, have the short pull hair trigger feature. I really like that feature for FPS games. I bought a very overpriced Elite controller pretty much exclusively because it had that feature, and here it is on a sub fifty dollar controller. L2 and R2 feel good, they're designed like the PS5 controller. The bumpers are a little different, but they feel and respond just fine, way better than Xbox controllers. I have had bumpers break on me, so I had to repair them myself, but I can tell these are going to hold up much better. This controller comes with a really nice charging station. You have to pay $150 or more to get that feature on an Xbox controller. When I charged the controller out of the box on it for the first time, it took about two hours to fully charge, and three hours is about the full charge time if you're powering the dock with a decent USB C charger. The reason I bought this model instead of the newer model was because this model has the rubber grips. I really like the feature after having it on the Elite. So even though the newer model GameSir controller has some upgraded features, no rubber grip, so I can do without a couple upgrades if it means I get that nice grip. You can also charge the controller with USB C, it comes with a decent GameSir branded 6 foot USB C cable. The value you get with this controller is insane. I never give out 5 star reviews, but this controller is actually that good. The Super Nova can also connect via bluetooth and a wired USB C cable, but I definitely prefer the USB dongle. If you get this controller, make sure you read the instructions. When I got the X2S, you have no idea how many people wrote reviews complaining about things that were explained in the instruction manual. The Super Nova does support profile switching, but you'll need to use the GameSir app, since it doesn't have onboard memory. I have used the app on my phone many times, usually to see what the battery is charged to. I got the pink controller because it was cheaper. The fact it's pink doesn't bother me. The face plate does come off, and it allows you to change the button locations if you prefer to have it configured like Playstation, Xbox, or Switch. The controller and the dock also features configurable RGB lighting. Actually I'm not sure about the dock, but the controllers RGB can easily be changed on the fly. It has a few effects to choose from or any solid RGB color you could want, and you can set the brightness or saturation, or do what I do, and turn it off to conserve battery life. I know for sure the bluetooth mode works on iPhone and PC. You can set it to have your device see it as an Xbox, Playstation, or Switch controller. I usually just have it set to be a Playstation controller because it's the easiest and most reliable option.I think that covers just about everything. I absolutely love this thing, I'm so glad it lived up to my extremely high expectations. The Super Nova is as good and better than controllers 4 times its price tag.Update: been using this controller for 4 months now. I only have encountered one issue. There is a limit switch for the right analog on the right side that clicks when it’s hit. I’ve been working with electronics most of my life, so if you don’t know what a limit switch sounds like, it’s basically a metal spring that clicks and makes an electrical connection to tell your device you’ve maxed out your travel. It’s not supposed to click in this case, but it does now. There’s no impact to performance, but there is that small little click every time I max out the analogs travel on the right side. If I’m wearing a headset, I don’t hear it, if the game audio is loud enough I don’t hear it, but if it’s quiet, I will hear it. It’s quieter than a mechanical keyboard key switch press, but it’s not inaudible. Just something to be aware of. Aside from that, this is now my favorite controller, there’s just that minor annoyance I’ve learned to ignore.Ver másVer menos
