De-bloat it, and you've got a tablet that punches above it's weight for the price!!

I've had a horrible run with tech lately; I bought a new 3D printer during Prime Days, and Amazon sent me a used one that has clearly seen better days, I had to get a new phone because my old one couldn't be updated anymore due to poor memory, one of my graphics tablets is suddenly on it's last legs... and now I find that soon, my venerable old Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite will soon cease getting updates due to it's Android version approaching sunset.Most if not all of you are asking "What does this have to do with this Xiaomi tablet?" Bear with me. At the time of writing, Samsung tablets are EXPENSIVE. And I wanted to upgrade a little, since I'm using a tablet more and more these days. Don't even think about suggesting an iPad to me; I will never buy an Apple product, but I'm already on a soapbox, so I won't go there.So I did some research, and came across Xiaomi, among other brands that are much more affordably priced than Samsung or Apple. Well, due to the 3D printer incident, I really didn't want to buy such a device on Amazon. But to my surprise, eBay and other vendors were asking more for this tablet than Amazon was!Next point of concern: Overseas brand tablets like this one can be scams. Usually, they're obvious to spot if you're tech-savvy. You'll see tablets here on Amazon that claim "1TB memory" with "18GB RAM!". Bogus specs; don't ever buy such a tablet (at least at this time of writing, tech is always improving!). So, not only was I loathe to buy tech like this from Amazon, but a lot of tablets like this are scams.Well, I scrutinized this listing and had two different AI do same, and this tablet seemed like a genuine deal. And although I'm still wary about getting a used, beat up product, Amazon still has an amazing return policy. So I ordered this tablet.Those who are still reading, thanks for enduring my long prelude. I was SHOCKED at how many falsely spec'd tablets are sold here on Amazon, so I wanted to get the word out. Now onto the tablet.I received a NEW, not used tablet. It was in a tightly sealed box with all accessories, and testing it via my PC confirmed it was indeed new (making the PC pull specs like battery cycles, processor lag, etc.).Now, here's where I focus on the first part of my review title: I only give this tablet five stars if it's "de-bloated". Since my prelude is stretching this review out, I'm not going to explain that process in depth. Basically, you download Android software licensed by Google, and in doing so, accept that you either know what you're doing and will only hold yourself liable, or don't know but will still only hold yourself liable.De-bloating this Xiaomi tablet is a must in my opinion; EVERY SINGLE XIAOMI APP in this tablet wants to track as much information about you as possible and send it overseas. I know not everyone cares about that, but I do. So I removed as many software packages from this tablet as I could, and disabled a few that I could not remove using the de-bloater software. Without a de-bloat, I would give this tablet 1.5 stars. It's that bad.With all that tracking software removed, I loaded my desired apps on, and I am really impressed by this tablet's performance! As per the second part of my review title, this tablet is punching way above it's weight for the price! At the time of writing, a comparable Samsung tablet would have cost $700, and I got this one for $330!Running one of my heavyweight apps, Nomad Sculpt, can make my old Galaxy Tab A7 Lite beg for mercy when my sculpted 3D models start to get really detailed. This Xiaomi has carelessly laughed off all my latest detailed works. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm going to bump up some of the limits of Nomad Sculpt for more functionality since this tablet can clearly handle it! Using VLC, all my video and CD backup files play smoothly, and both my headphones and new Bluetooth-capable graphics tablet sync right up to this tablet. As an added plus to de-bloating it, the graphics tablet is super smooth running on this tablet!Anyway, I'll close this review in a summary: If you are not tech-savvy but don't want a bunch of data gathered about you and sent overseas, then I'm afraid you'll have to look at the big brands. If you're comfortable with running de-bloat software or can learn and execute it properly (just have an AI help you!), then again, you're going to get serious bang for the buck with this tablet!! Or, if you just don't care about this nuance but want a tablet that performs well at a good price, again, this tablet is right up your alley in my experience!Ver más
