Works great

I have many, mostly budget, mechanical keyboards at this point but had yet to try a Hall effect switch keyboard until i snagged this one to test. I had heard so much about snap tap (socd) and how it’s been banned for counter-strike 2 but still wanted to see what the fuss was about.Setting up the MADE68 Pro wasn’t as intuitive as it could’ve been, but it did work in the end. First I tried to use the Windows version of their Hive configuration app but it only had basic key remapping functionality. I then found out they had a web based interface which was full featured. At first i had used a cable that was going bad so it kept disconnecting and had trouble pulling the info from the board’s configuration. Once i swapped in the included cable, it all worked.Reprogramming the keys was simple and I was able to remap caps lock to Fn2 so I can have easy access to the F-row. I couldn’t find where the snap tap feature was hidden so i had to find a MADE68 review that showed me it was found in the Super Key section. I then set up A and D keys for this feature and it immediately worked. I could hold down A and once I tapped D it would release A and activate D. Releasing D would reactivate A. In theory I could change direction faster but in practice my play style made the feature imperceptible. I tested this in Strinova and didn’t notice any difference in movement/aiming. I suspect CS2 would have a noticeable difference since your accuracy is strongly affected by movement (and change directions faster while strafing to avoid getting hit) but since you risk a ban, I didn’t bother trying myself. I’ll continue to test and edit the review if needed but I don’t anticipate any change in my opinions.I think this feature would be useful for fighting game players who use a keyboard as the SOCD will make it behave more like a hitbox controller or maybe in a 3D game where light touches are necessary instead. As for the keyboard’s general usability, it has some thin ABS keycaps which give it a really high pitched sound when typing. I don’t know if thicker PBT keycaps will be to save it, but at least the keyboard case seems built pretty well. It’s mostly plastic except the two metal side panels and the light bar on the top gives it a unique look. The keyboard description says it can support other magnetic switches but the software sends to have additional presets for only a couple of Gateron switches. I have some WS switches and the software makes it sound like you just have to calibrate them. I’ll try this later on. Luckily the TTC KOM switches that are preinstalled are decently smooth.Overall it’s an ok entry point for those that want to try magnetic switches but the price is hard to justify. It costs $170 (they seem to add a tax on Amazon to offset listing fees), it doesn’t have a metal case, and their web interface could use some work to be more intuitive and visually appealing. On the other hand, it may be easier to get your hands on one of these compared to the constantly sold out Wooting keyboards but I question this keyboard’s resale value as the brand only has one other popular keyboard I know of. I think the $180-$200 price range would make an all metal keyboard (MADE68 Ultra) a great deal. This plastic board, though unique and premium feeling, seems more competitive at ~$125. If you have the money to burn and with Amazon’s great return policy, it may be worth picking up just to see if it’s right for you.
