A real mid level contender to bridge the gap of mid level and ultra high end sets

So I want to be very clear about my review, this is based on a review of over ear, headphones only, not against ear buds, or on ear headphones. I've got, frankly way too many, different headphones, of pretty much any variety, but it's always difficult to find what you exactly you are seeking in a pair. HEAVYS draw are the base and sound for metal music and while they do pretty well with providing a more rounded sound for certain instruments, a more clear sound of base drums, and a clearer picture of vocal highs compared to things like a cymbal. And while they do do a great job of this, better than most bigger name brands at similar price points, they can't quite touch the really bespoke brands. However when you enter in to the realms of things like Noble or Focal, you are running into thousands of dollars for headphones, and the amount of work and equipment that goes into each set, is simply not something you are going to find for most at certain price points, but HEAVYS are trying to bridge that gap between supposed high end name brands, which don't offer more than their name on a cheap pair of headphones, and the ultra expensive boutique pieces. They do a pretty good job of doing just that, once you remove any audio blockages like sound volume equalization on programs and things like that, allowing them to hit their full volume, these are a very nice package, lots of low level grunt, and some really clear highs. It does a very good job of noise cancelling, and a nice job at isolating individual channels and instruments to really produce a fuller sound picture. I haven't had a chance to really fool around with working on equalization or checking what frequencies are going where, but if you are wanting a really nice pair of headphones for heavier and more specialized music, these are definitely the highest on the list right now. Also, they have a really fantastic carrying case, it's a little quirky, but it's formed to the shape perfectly, and does a great job of keeping them actually protected.Ver más

NOT Just For Heavy Metal!

I know that these headphones are made with Heavy Metal Fans in mind, but these work well for most music that I've tried them with. In fact, I don't even like or listen to metal. What I will say is that they do definitely cater to bass heads, especially in their default tuning. However, there is an equalizer in the app that can make a huge difference in the sound of these headphones. That's where these really start to shine and show their versatility! At first they really were too bass heavy, but when I played with the sound settings, all of my music sounded quite good - not audiophile good, but gym and commute good? Definitely. They just did okay with classical, but that's almost definitely the hardest type of music for any headphone to replicate well, so that's not a con. Also, these weren't created with classical enthusiasts in mind, so I won't judge a fish for not being able to climb a tree.Build quality is also impressive. They definitely feel like quality. Finishing is even kind of luxe. The folding mechanisms seem solid, not like weak points that will give out some time soon. The case is small and compact, and they easily fold into it. A good design.Noise cancelling will be adequate for most people and uses. The controls become very easy to use after a few uses and some practice.I'm very impressed by these headphones and I would recommend them to most people, but especially those who like deep bass and particular genres of music, like Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Jazz, Samba, Electric, House Music, Salsa, Merengue, Ballads, Oldies, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's 2000's...and oh yeah, Heavy Metal.Ver más

No instructions, so you'll need figure it out.

There is a switch to turn on/off power. There's a switch to enable Bluetooth. There's a button/knob between back and forward buttons. I figured out the larger middle button is also a volume dial. If you press the volume knob, it will pause or play. At first, I couldn't get any of these functions to work, but then it started working just fine... it could've been a Bluetooth issue. The voice that communicates for the headphones sounds like Vin Diesel. The sound is phenomenal. The bass is rich and the sound is clear. They are comfortable, albeit kind of heavy. They hold a good charge. I really like these, but you can get a much better value with Marshall's Bluetooth headphones.Ver más

Unpolished and overpriced—too many compromises

I got these headphones at no-cost through the Vine program. I love headphones. I've owned and reviewed 50+ so far (many paid for with my own money). After being in this hobby for about 30 years, I know what I like, what I don't like, and what's objectively good and bad in a pair of headphones. Just because I got these for free doesn't mean I'll look past negative aspects of a product. So let's go.I'd heard of the Heavys brand before now, but didn't know anything about their products. While waiting for these to arrive, I did some research on the web. It didn't take much digging to uncover some, uh, troubling info about this company and, specifically, how they've handled negative press over the past year or so. I won't get into it here, but if you're considering these headphones, you should do your own research first.I also learned that Alex Grell (previously of Sennheiser fame) is the Chief Technology Officer of Heavys and probably played a significant role in the development and/or tuning of these headphones. If you're a Sennheiser fan like I am, I should caution you that I didn't find anything about these to be like Sennheiser. The design, the fit, the sound quality, the app...there is no Sennheiser DNA in this product. As far as Alex and Heavys are concerned, that's great. I just wanted others to know that this isn't a cousin of the Sennheiser Momentum.• Starting with the unboxing, I was surprised at the quality of the whole experience. All I knew at this point was that these currently go for $270. The box was thin, flimsy cardboard with everything just tossed in. The headphones come in a protective case, but the accessory cables and certificate cards were just rattling around in the cardboard box. None of this is a dealbreaker, but I wouldn't gift these headphones to someone if the presentation is important. I've seen packaging with far better materials and design on headphones that cost half this much.• The protective case is pretty cool actually. It's clearly been custom made for these headphones and I would trust it to protect them in 99% of normal usage. There isn't a place designed for the two cables that come with it, so if you want to bring them you kind of have to find a way to stuff them in. By the way, in the Amazon title of these headphones, Heavys proudly states "Folds Flat into a Premium Case." These headphones don't fold flat at all (more on this to come) and they certainly don't fold flat in the case. Not only was this clearly made-up, but it was a weird choice to put this wrong info in the product's title at the top of the page. If having these headphones lay flat for storage or traveling is important to you, know that the description is misleading.• First thing I noticed after taking the headphones out of the case is how wide they are. The headband actually got a chuckle out of me while I held it in my hands. As someone who prefers a narrower headband that conforms to my head and doesn't create big gaps between the headband and sides of my dome, this design is the most unnatural and unattractive I've seen in a pair of headphones. No amount of flexing or "re-shaping" can fix what I find to be goofy looking headphones. That alone doesn't make these uncomfortable on my head, I just don't like the appearance. The fit itself is fine on my head, not great, but fine. The best thing these headphones have going for them in the design and fit category are the earpads. They're deep, have a decent inner diameter, thick, and very plush. Going back to the fact that these don't lay flat, I should also mention that the ear cups don't even rotate—they just flex a few degrees in either direction. This is going to create fit and comfort issues for some owners. Once I got them in place, they were moderately comfy on my head, which I credit entirely to the plush ear pads. Nice job on the pads, Heavys.• Controls have been a bit of a nuisance throughout my testing. Where other brands have found ways to combine several functions into only a few physical controls, Heavys kind of went the other direction, including buttons that serve unexpected purposes. For example, on the left earcup, there's a Bluetooth switch that not only activates pairing mode, but can turn off BT altogether. I thought this was silly and wasteful until I noticed how cheap the BT implementation on these headphones is. So having a way to turn off BT (when you're listening via wired mode) is actually a good thing. I wish it wasn't necessary, but disabling the BT radio is actually useful in this case. Also, the volume can be adjusted with a rotary knob on the right earcup, which is a very cool idea. Unfortunately, it's a tiny knob with two other buttons placed right next to it on both sides, making it difficult to adjust the volume for most people with normal sized fingers. Great idea, but poor execution.• Speaking of noise, these headphones not only have average (at best) ANC, but the ANC and other functions of the product actually introduce their own noise to the sound. For a product that's supposedly dedicated to music listening, it's unfortunate Heavys couldn't do more to provide a quieter, more focused experience. The ANC reduces some external noise, but creates its own layer of white noise. The BT amp onboard seems to be doing the same, and even when listening via USB cable, there's extra noise. The cleanest version of listening I could find (by testing every combination) is wired via 3.5mm cable with ANC and BT disabled. The headphone's amp still seems to be coloring the sound with a faint background noise, but it's slightly better than all of the other options. You can go even a step further by powering the headphones off entirely and listening via 3.5mm, and that's a little quieter in the noise department. But then the bass becomes more boomy and sloppy. Try as I might, I just couldn't get these to sound "right." Also, the product description says these have transparency mode. If that's true (and at this point I can't trust the manufacturer), you can't control it from the headphones themselves.• Now would be a good time to address the app. I didn't use it, not even for the sake of this review. I wish I could have tried it, just to report on it here, but Heavys requires you to set up an account in order to access the app. No skip option, no trial option. You have give up a little more of your personal info to Heavys and their developers if you want to get the full experience from the headphones you just paid for. That's a dealbreaker to me. Supposedly there's an EQ option in the app, and maybe that's where you can access the transparency mode too. I couldn't say. Maybe this sounds silly, but the app thing is what bugs me the most about these headphones. I should move on.• As far as the actual sound quality goes, these were a let down on first listen and it didn't get a lot better after that. The upper mids and treble are pushed forward, but not in a smooth pleasant presentation. There's a lot of midbass and not much subbase. It's the kind of tuning that makes me want to keep the volume low. Push it up a little too high and it's instantly harsh and fatiguing (to my ears). Now, I'll give Heavys the benefit of the doubt here. On the included "signed" certificate, Alex states that he's "a metal enthusiast and headphones expert." Perhaps these are tuned to sound best for certain metal songs, and the rest of us just need to accept that. With every genre and song I tested, though, these left me wanting something more...and different. I don't think any amount of EQ could fix what I don't like about this sound. Everyone hears music a little differently, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. For me personally, I find the Sony WH-1000M6 to be too bassy and muddy without EQ. But even those are a giant step up in terms of sound quality.• Other random observations: Heavys really wants you to not only buy these headphones, but also buy additional custom shells for the earcups. According to a special insert that comes in the box, they've found that if you don't install your replacement shells just right, you might damage your headphones and they won't cover that under warranty. This was evidently enough of a problem to create special messaging and inserts to address it, so keep that in mind. Also, the voice they used for audio notifications is...laughable. Every time I turned the headphones on or off, or adjusted ANC, it made it harder for me to take this product seriously. It was like they hired a voice from the Transformers movies, and then asked an engineer to dial the "super scary robot" factor up to 11. That, combined with this voice referring to noise cancelling mode as "HELLBLOCKER" made me realize I'm probably not in their target audience. Finally, there are some other details Heavys states in the product description that are just plain deceptive. They refer a couple times to the really important "Front Facing Tweeters" inside the earcup. The tweeters don't face the front, they're rear facing. Does that really matter when you're listening to these? No. But the fact that I'm finding several easy-to-spot false statements in Heavys' marketing material makes me wonder how many other things they made up that aren't as easy to spot. I mean, on some level, I want to know that the manufacturer is being truthful about the product they're selling. And that brings us full circle to why Heavys is getting called out by so many people on reddit, YouTube, and headphone forums.At the current price of $270, these headphones have some (ahem) heavy competition. Bose, Sony, JBL, Sennheiser, Nothing, Soundcore, JLab, Edifier, even Dyson, a vacuum cleaner company, ALL have options that outclass the H1H and cost less. Most of them have stronger, quieter ANC. Several have objectively better tuning right out of the box. All of them look and feel better (to me at least). And with one exception (Dyson), I don't think any of the others require you to make an account just to use their app.For me, the Heavys H1H is a tough sell. Even if they drop the price, I don't know when or to whom I'd recommend these headphones. I appreciate that Heavys is trying to break into this market, and I hope they can iterate the H1H into a future version that proves all of my observations wrong. But today, at this price, I'd skip these.

Amazing Sound and Incredible Headphones!

These headphones are amazing! The sound quality is fantastic, and I’m hearing notes and sounds in my music that I don’t normally notice with my regular headphones. The audio feels much more detailed and immersive, and I’ve really been enjoying listening to all of my favorite music with them.I especially appreciate having a dedicated noise-cancelling switch, which makes it easy to turn the feature on and off when needed. I also love that they come with both a USB-C cable and a 3.5 mm audio cable. Having both wired and wireless options makes these headphones really versatile and convenient.The included case is also really nice and feels like it will do a good job protecting the headphones. It did take me a little while to figure out how to fold them and get them back into the case properly because I was being extra careful and didn’t want to accidentally break anything. Once I got the hang of it, though, it was fine.These are comfortable, well-made, and the sound quality is outstanding. I can see myself using these headphones for many years to come. And an extra bonus is the magnetic shells that you can purchase to personalize the headphones. How cool is that? I love the idea of being able to change the look and make them more personal.Overall, these are wonderful headphones, and I’m extremely happy with them.Ver más

Fun and surprisingly good

I bought the HEAVYS H1H Headphones and overall I’m happy with the performance, even if the controls took a little getting used to.**What I Love**- Strong bass response that still stays controlled- Handles EDM, jazz, and other percussive tracks really well- Quick and reliable wireless connection- Active noise cancelling that helps block everyday background noise- Long 50 hour battery life and a premium folding casePairing was fast every time, which I appreciate. Once connected, the sound quality stood out as surprisingly good. The bass is solid, and more complex, rhythm-heavy music like EDM and jazz came through clearly with good detail. I’ve used them really for just music, but my wife did call and she told me that the built-in mic does a decent job. The headphones fold flat into the case, making them easy to pack.The controls and overall interface aren’t exactly intuitive at first. It took a bit of trial and error to figure everything out, but after that initial learning curve it became much easier.The H1H headphones deliver good sound, especially on bass heavy and percussive music, and the fast connection is a plus. They’re comfortable to use once you get past the slightly confusing controls. Recommended if you value sound quality and battery life.Ver más
