Perfect for Pet Owners Who Are Tired of Dog Hair
I’ve been using the iRobot Roomba 505X for about a month now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. I have two Labs that shed constantly, and keeping up with the dog hair used to feel like a never-ending job. This vacuum has made a huge difference. It picks up the hair really well, and my floors stay clean because it’s vacuuming and mopping on a regular schedule.The mapping was quick and accurate, and I found the app easy to use. It lets me know when the water tank needs to be filled or when something needs attention, so I don’t have to guess. I usually run it on the Deep Clean setting because of my dogs, and I only have to refill the water tank a couple of times a week. I’ve only had to replace the dust bag once in the month I’ve been using it.The only issue I’ve had is that it’ll occasionally get tangled in the cord for my mini blinds if I forget to pull it up first. Other than that, it does a great job avoiding dog toys and furniture, and I haven’t had any problems with it getting stuck under anything.The mopping feature has been better than I expected. I add a little bit of cleaning solution to the water tank, and my floors come out clean with no streaks or puddles. It even seems to notice messier areas and spends extra time cleaning them.Overall, I’m really happy with it. If you have pets, especially dogs that shed a lot, this robot vacuum is definitely worth considering.Ver másVer menos

I Feel Like George Jetson!
This vacuum in amazing. Simply amazing. I've had a Roomba 650 for several years and was mostly satisfied with it but this iRobot Roomba i6+ is, well, miles ahead of the 650. Once you've got it set up and ready to rock, vacuuming your house is, for the most part, an afterthought.First of all, be assured that the i6+ is nearly identical to the i7+ with the exception of the silver top, no included virtual wall, and the lack of extra bags and filters included along with it. But more on that later. Set up is easy. Simply find a nice space for your Roomba to reside and you're on your way. iRobot says you need about one foot of space in the front and on the sides of the base station. Once you've established that, it's time to charge it and set it in motion. My i6+ came partially charged so I went ahead and charged it fully before beginning a vacuuming session. While it's charging, download the iRobot app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. You can also link your Roomba to your home network at this time. It took me a few tries to get this right and I had to end up using a different router than I had first attempted to connect with. My "parking place" isn't too far from the router but for some reason, I could never get it to connect to that one. When you've connected, your i6+ will upload the latest firmware version. Once your Roomba is fully charged (you can follow the progress on the app), it's time for it to take a tour of your house. The instructions you receive with your vacuum isn't real clear on this next step so let me try and fill in that gap for you...The i6+ needs to learn your house before you'll be able to schedule regular cleaning runs. I watched several videos that told me to send it on mapping runs first. Your mileage may vary but the app didn't allow me to do this. For the first 2 times I vacuumed, I had to simply send it out to vacuum the entire main level of my house. Finally, after those initial couple of sessions, the Map icon lit up and I was able to send the i6+ out on scouting runs to more efficiently map the house. It's really amazing how you can see the map start filling in and how accurate it is. Once you've got your house mapped, you can start naming rooms and setting up schedules for cleaning. By far, the coolest thing about the map is the ability to set up "keep out" zones, such as areas where cords or cables are on the floor or, in my case, where the water dish is for the cat. This may take a bit of experimentation but it really works well once you set them up. I've had it bump the water bowl once but it was because the i6 got trapped by a chair someone moved while it was in a corner and the only way out was to take a path that the bowl was blocking.My old 650, like the i7, has a black top which, over time, became very scratched and unsightly. The silver top of my i6+ looks brand new, even after 30 or so sessions. Aside from the aforementioned water bowl bump, this i6+ has performed nearly flawlessly. There has only been, so far, one incident where it stopped during a session and that was due to it sucking up a cat toy on the floor. I simply pulled the toy from the rollers and off it went! I have yet to change the bag in the main unit and when I inspected the dirt bin on the vacuum itself for the first time today, it's amazingly clean and free of dust. I was constantly having to clean the bin of the 650 and change filters. Not so with this guy.If you're on the fence about buying this vacuum, have no fear. It is, as I stated above, amazing. Your house will stay much cleaner without investing your valuable time doing so. It's pricey, yes, but it's well worth the investment if you're looking for a vacuum that you can "set and forget".Ver másVer menos

5 1/2 years, runs great 1700' a week
Purchased Jan 2021. If you only want to vacuum this is the one you want. We're in our 80s. What's below this rewiew still happens at times as far as getting updates. Don't get me wrong it still vacuums great. I just wish I could set it up on a private internet. We hear it some evenings announce itself after getting messages or updates from the mfgr. I wish I could stop it. Almost every time we get one the next time it does a scheduled job it screws up. I'm not able to bend down or get on the floor so first Sunday the vacuum ignored a no go zone that it respected Thursday and got stuck under our wood stove. Thankfully too warm for a fire. So here I am leaning on the stove bent over trying to shut it down. Very sore back now. So my wife had to come running from our laundry room when she heard me cussing, she also has a bad back.Sometimes it's minor and comes off charge to do a program and twirls around twice in confusion and heads out to clean the kitchen. It travels maybe 10 ft stops turns around 180° and heads to the master bedroom it was programmed for. In a programmed room it does once a week it will run into something that we can't move. It backs up and hits it exactly the same place 2-3 times, stops after backing up and checks it's map turns and continues it's program.Here things change. Almost all bugs finally fixed. We still can't reset it and start new mapping as we're too old to do it all in one day. The wife changes the brushes and the bag and I sit in my recliner and do repairs in my lap but not too many. The edge brush motor gears do fail if you have a cat, the hair goes under the brush winds up and tightens up causing the gear to lose teeth. Probably our fault leaving maintenance go too long. The motor is easy to replace. ( Time for great tip, all screws are capture type and don't fall out). I do need to change the tires on the drive wheels, they're bald. Front wheel died twice, cat hair again. Cheap to pull out and put in new rather than clean. Maintenance and repair can be done following mfgr or YouTube by anyone using 2 screw drivers. Medium which used to come with it and large. Our battery has never been changed and runs 45-60 minutes. Bust $549 on sale we did. We sent back 2 from other mfgrs they'd get lost 8' away from charger, no lidar.P.S. they have no refurbish program and service contracts are too expensive for retired fixed income people. No military or veteran discount. Frankly I'd like to buy this again and put it away in case the first on ever dies, but my wife wants to get one that refills water for mopping as well as vacuuming. We do have a Irobot mop as well that's 4 years old and never needed repair, knock on wood

Deep and Loud
UPDATE: It's loud - the vacuum. However, my bedroom carpets look like I ran a traditional vacuum cleaner over them. I'm impressed. I have figured out a work around for avoiding the noise, but quite honestly, when I have my 4am cleaning set, it never wakes me up, so I guess it's not all that loud. It has automation features, meaning I set up cleaning schedules. I set my deep cleaning for Monday's after I leave for work. So, I'm upgrading it to 4 stars but leaving the title and standing by my "too loud" statement. Occasionally 'Paul' gets caught on a rug, but typically he climbs up over the lip of the rug with no issue. I love the large water reservoir and that I'm not constantly refilling it. I also love that I don't have to detach the water reservoir from the robot to refill. Also, it cleans itself - like the mop pads are self-cleaning... and drying. The dirty water is seriously dirty even though I clean the floors daily. That's pretty amazing. How about that! Once they figure out how to get this thing to vacuum quietly, it will be 5-star worthy.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've only tried this on Deep, Vac & Mop. It does an amazing job, but IT! IS! LOUD! I'm hoping that's because I have it on DEEP. I'll update when I try the other modes. I'm only doing deep because it's been a week since cleaning the floors since my old Shark kept breaking down (threw THAT in the trash). Normally, (with my old Shark) I would clean nightly while sleeping. I like the results of this machine better - just hope it's not always so loud. For now, I'm giving it three stars. Excellent robot at an excellent price
This is my first floor-cleaning robot, and I purchased it in early June. We live in an 1,800-square-foot rental house with laminate floors. My wife and I don’t create a lot of mess, but we live in Arizona, where dirt and sand are constantly blowing around and getting tracked inside.Before buying the 505X, I watched a lot of YouTube comparison reviews, many of which trashed this robot. My reaction was simple: our real-world use case just isn’t as dramatic as the torture tests shown in many of those reviews.More importantly, I think they often overlook one huge factor: longevity. Plenty of newer companies make impressive robots that perform great when they’re new, but how well will they work two or three years from now? iRobot has been around longer than most competitors and has built a solid reputation. That mattered more to me than which robot won a controlled YouTube test by a few percentage points.In everyday use, the 505X has been excellent for us.We cook a lot, and by the end of a weekend day, the kitchen floor can get surprisingly dirty with crumbs, spills, and tracked spots. The 505X usually takes about 10 minutes to clean it, and I run it there two or three times a week.I also regularly clean our laundry room and dining room. Both are high-traffic areas connected to outside entrances, and since using the Roomba routinely, we’ve noticed a lot less dirt being tracked throughout the house.When we first moved into this rental, the floors were pretty dirty. I ran Smart Clean, and the first whole-house cleaning took roughly twice as long as our current cleaning every 10 days. The dirty-water tank afterward was impressively disgusting—which was exactly what I wanted to see.It’s also great for cleaning under beds, those classic “out of sight, out of mind” areas that normally get neglected.The 505X did an excellent job mapping our house around numerous obstacles and handles changes well when objects are added, moved, or removed.Would I use it as my primary vacuum on wall-to-wall carpet? Probably not. I don’t expect a small battery-powered robot to compete with the deep cleaning of my high-powered Shark upright.But for a mostly or entirely hard-floor home, the 505X has been a terrific fit. It keeps the dirtiest areas consistently clean, reduces tracked-in dirt, reaches places we normally neglect, and does it with very little effort from us.For our use case, that’s exactly what I wanted.

Update - Yes, you DO have to babysit it ALL the time...
Update: Reduced review from 5 to 2 stars. I've now had it nearly a year. I wish I had bought a different brand. It lost all maps and wouldn't create any for a couple of months. If it misses half the room you have to have it remap so it has to map a room like 10 times before it actually has it anywhere near correct.It also IGNORES keep out zones. We had sticky ant bait everywhere as no matter how large I made the keep out zone it ignored it. I discovered when I wanted to remove the keep out zone it has no option...so I would have to remap the entire room to get the keep out zone to disappear. It CONSTANTLY gets stuck on my furniture, a cord, or sometimes nothign at all. It will call out for help until it flattens itself so you'll have to go searching under the bed and in every nook and cranny until you find it if you weren't running it while babysitting it. Cleaning it's a pain as it constantly gets blocked with the simplest of things. Gum wrapper - blocked, small piece of food - blocked, a penny - blocked. You basically have to go around the room sweeping before the roomba sweeps or inevitably it will find something somewhere to get jammed in it's tiny suction area or when it tries to empty. I thought I wouldn't have to babysit this one, but I do. It's a HUGE disappointment as I have been laid up for the last month. I can't run it because every time I do it gets stuck or gets something stuck in it and calls out for help. The whole point was so that I wouldn't have to help it. Now it's decided that even though it's under the couch in the living room, it thinks it's gone back to it's charging base and stopped running. There's no way I can get under there to fish it out so it's just going to have to collect dust bunnies. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY on this. Buy one of the other ones. I had an early model Roomba which had the bristle-style rollers on it. I finally gave up on it because I spent more time babysitting it than it spent cleaning my floors. This is a dream in comparison.With this model, it's hands off except for a weekly sprucing up & the occasional twist or two of hair wrapped around the spinning corner brush. With it's rugged big wheels it trundles over my thresholds with ease. There's no need to turn on and off those little laser things to keep it from going into places you don't want it - just block them off in the app. The rubber brushes clean hard floors well but are easy to clean themselves.The only drawback I can see is that it sounds like a plane taking off when it's vacuuming the dirt from the Roomba into the tower. I just make sure to use it during the day instead of at night. However, if you have small children or nervous pets, the random extremely loud vacuum could startle them as it let's you know it's done AFTER it empties itself - no warning beforehand.I adore the tie-in to Alexa. I can tell Roomba to clean whenever I want and whatever room I want cleaned without even needing to be in the same room. I also have keep out zones set up so it doesn't wander into the bathroom or get stuck under my office chair (the only spot in the house that it can't seem to navigate).The Roomba I love, but the software still needs some work. Even with the beta functions turned on, it still cannot do a discovery run which includes under my kitchen table. Somehow it keeps 'missing' most of it because it will bump against a couple of things and then appear to give up. I wish there was a way to 'train' it in discovery mode for JUST ONE ROOM as that would be so much quicker. I've basically given up on getting it to clean under the kitchen table and resorted to doing it myself with a broom and dustpan.One additional comment - After I bought this I thought, "I'll get the Brava M6 like it suggests to do my mopping then I won't ever have to clean my floors by myself ever again." Boy, was I wrong. The software that runs the Brava M6 is a dinosaur in comparison. It's clunky, is designed to stop at thresholds - even when you tell it not to- so you have to carry it from room to room, sometimes turns off for no apparent reason so you have to tell it to 'clean' the same room 10x or more before it actually does the floor in one room most of the way, can't finish a run in even a tiny room when in discovery mode so never actually maps a room, and doesn't clean worth a darn. Save your money. GET the Roomba but SKIP the Brava M6.
