The daily grind
Like everything Brewista makes, this is another high quality item. Metal, metal, metal and more metal.Easy to use, just set the grind setting and turn the crank. It might take a couple grind to get the size just right, but that's the same with any grinder. Once you get the grind dialed in tho, it is consistent. It does take a lot of cranking to grind 20g for espresso, so the grind time feels very long, you might have to switch arms half way through, ha!Current listed at $124, that does sound like a lot, especially since you can get automatics for that price. But this is a well constructed and durable unit. And if you are looking at hand grinders, then you know why some of these are in this price range, or even more. If you know what you like, and coffee is one of those things, and you need something compact, reliable, and has a travel case, this is going to be a good value for you.Ver másVer menos

Beautiful grinder + the saga of the brush
This is our first quality hand grinder. I have a DF54, but wanted something portable. There's just something about a good coffee while camping. I was extremely pleased with the packaging and build quality of the grinder. It's really fun to feel and use. This is a beautiful hand grinder. It feels great to use. It's heavy, but not too heavy. Hard and tough, yet the silicone accents soften it enough to make it comfortable to hold while using.The grind performance seems to be great for very fine grinds all the way through the pour-over range. I've been mainly using this for pour-overs on my Hario Switch. I've found setting 16 to work well for this. The grinder can go above #18 for coarser grinds - some simple addition is required to know what your grind size is.Actually using the grinder is a ton of fun. It's very satisfying to use this for pour-overs or anything with slightly coarser grind settings. Anything in the espresso range is a bit more of a workout, but not exactly a challenge. It just takes longer. When grinding, the sound is very muffled and the feel is of slight resistance. I haven't had issues with the magnetic base, but make sure you hold it appropriately so it doesn't come apart during grinding.And now, the abbreviated saga of the brush. The original listing for this grinder had photos of a cleaning brush, an essential tool for a hand grinder. The sort of thing you'd expect to come with a $170 grinder. I didn't get one in my kit, so I reached out and was told that they would ship the missing brush. After a couple weeks I messaged Brewista again and they said sorry they will send it out right away. A couple days later they send me a cheap "generic coffee brush" from Amazon. Now, you'll notice that none of their photos have a brush in them. It is apparent that there was some miscommunication between Brewista and the Chinese factory where the entire kit is produced. I'm glad Brewista (eventually) made things right with me, so I wont dock a star. But I am disappointed that their $170 grinder doesn't come with a ~$3 cleaning brush, a necessary tool that you'll now have to spend additional money on.Ver másVer menos

It’s clear this grinder was built with care.Grinding Experience:Once you add your favorite beans and start cranking, the fun begins. After the initial resistance, the grinder settles into a smooth, consistent motion. When the last of the beans pass through, the handle spins freely with no resistance — almost too freely, because you’ll wish there were more beans left to grind.The magnetic grounds container comes off with a soft pull, and just like that, you’re ready to brew.Grind Adjustment:If there’s one area that takes patience, it’s the grind adjustment (internal adjustment). Travel and Power Outages!
I use this awesome Brewista Artisan Meteor Manual Coffee Grinder when I travel for work or for when the power goes out at home. I LOVE it and here's why!1. NO PLASTIC! I am doing everything I can to stay away from plastics and this is a premium made product that costs more than the cheap plasticy things that are available on the market. Not only is this healthier, but it also means long lasting durability!!!2. IT'S PORTABLE! I can detach the handle and put it in a hard shelled carrying case to store it or take it with me on the road! When I travel I absolutely try to avoid hotel coffee because I want something that tastes premium. This manual coffee grinder allows me to make my own coffee on the road - that means I save money and get a premium coffee! It pays for itself!3. IT IS EASY TO USE! Very simple to select the grind size and grind what I need and easy to clean it! There is nothing complex or complicated. It works - and it works great! Every time! It has a great capacity for 1-2 cups of coffee grinds produced at a time. That means you get the absolute freshest grind for each and every cup of coffee!4. COMFORTABLE TO USE! The wooden handle is ergonomic and easy and comfortable to use. It is not a workout to grind my beans and they are ground relatively quickly. I love hand grinding because it really preserves as much of the oil as possible which brings out the best flavors!A draw back - there is no brush so I had to get one. For those buying a manual coffee grinder for the first time, here's what to expect
This beautiful, lightweight, quiet, and comfortable grinder grinds no more than one ounce (two tablespoons) of coffee beans per grind, making it suitable for a six-ounce cup. It offers 18 different grind settings, ideal for nine basic brewing methods. For example, a French press requires the coarsest grind, while Turkish coffee requires the finest. The grinding process is straightforward: the handle turns easily clockwise, and grinding is complete in just a few dozen seconds. This grinder would make a wonderful gift for any coffee lover, including you.The coffee grinder consists of four main parts:- the central unit with the grinding mechanism and bean hopper,- the upper lid, which fits snugly into the central unit,- the removable grinder handle,- The lower unit, which holds the ground coffee, is held magnetically against the central unit from below. When grinding beans, I recommend holding the upper and lower units inside the palm of your hand for safety.To adjust the grinder to one of eighteen grind settings, attach the removable handle to the central unit and lock it in place. Then, turn the main unit upside down and, with your other hand, turn the adjustment knob (shown in the photo) counterclockwise to one of the positions from 0 to 17.To clean the grinder, it's recommended in the gadget's instructions to disassemble the central unit into its parts and clean them with a brush. But I blow out the assembled grinder with a handheld mini fan pistol.The grinder comes with a beautiful shipping box designed for storage and safe transport. solid grinder
This is a fairly solid grinder. It has some good weight to it, but not so much that it gets heavy when using. I had a tiny bit of play in the handle and shaft when grinding. It definitely grinds on the fine end. The manual states that the setting for pour over should be 15 to 17. I have a Difluid Omni that I used to analyze the particle size of the grind. For the three settings I got fine to the fine side of medium at the coarsest. That will work for a V60, but definitely not for a method requiring a grind more coarse. It should be fine for Turkish, espresso, or moka pot.The catch cup is attached with 4 magnets. It seems strong enough, but when cranking, if my hand ended up covering the top part of the cup, it separated every time. Be aware. Hold this far enough up the body so your hand does not rest on the catch cup. The crank also comes off the spindle very easily. It is not an issue when grinding, but in regular handling the grinder, this can come off pretty easily.They include a nice case for this. If I were to travel with this, however, I would take the crank off and store it that way in my bag. That will take up a lot less room. One very nice feature is that they provide grind setting numbers on the adjustment mechanism at the bottom of the grinder. Many grinders with an adjustment dial at the bottom do not provide numbers. For those, if you forget the setting, you have to go back to the zero point and count the clicks. That can get irritating. That is not an issue with this grinder.They are very correct when they say it will take 25 to 30 grams of beans. With a light roast, and light end of medium, it will hold 30 grams. If you are grinding beans that are on the darker end of a medium roast, you might get 27 grams or so (and that is filling it up to the top).Like most hand grinders, for medium roast it is fairly easy to crank. When you get into lighter roasts, it will fight you a bit. There are a few hand grinders that will not fight you, but most will when grinding a light roast. The body is narrow enough so that most people should not have an issue with being able to get a good grip.Ver másVer menos
