One of the best self-help books I’ve read

Finally read “Let Them”, why I kept putting off is beyond me. Have been following Mel Robbins on FB for quite sometime, fell in love with her inspiring words. As soon as she came out with this book, I immediately bought it.Best purchase I’ve bought for myself in a long time. “Aha” moment on every single page, insightful and thrilling experience, the material is highly engaging, deeply challenges your perspective, and connects the dots in a way that just makes sense.Lindsey Powers note; “So simple, yet revolutionary. I can't stop thinking about the two words that Mel Robbins shows us will change our lives”. So true.Magnificent, powerful read. Wish was written 45 years ago. Everyone needs this book!!Ver más

From Frustration to Freedom: Why ‘Let Them’ Works (when you work it!)

After many years in independent practice as a clinical psychologist I moved to the corporate world for 21 years. My focus these days is on coaching, consulting, and more travel with my loving wife. Whether providing therapy or now as an executive coach and consultant I have always been mindful of and focused on the role of mindset, attitudes, self-talk, and all the “stuff” that goes on in our heads.After listening to a podcast in which Ms. Robbins was the guest discussing her book (written with her daughter Sawyer) The Let Theme Theory” and several friends who are also executive coaches mentioned the book, I decided it was time to buy and read it. So glad I did!Throughout the chapters of my life, including as a therapist and executive coach, I have adopted a model that emphasizes that we feel and do largely because of how we choose to think (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive-behavioral coaching (CBC). Much of Let Theme is consistent with CBT/CBC. The ideas that our thoughts can paralyze us, how we may be prone to give power to others, how emotions can drive decisions, and how we have the power to control how we think are foundational to CBT/CBC. And learning and applying the “Let Them, Let Me” approach provides a straightforward way to reclaiming much of the power and control that we might unwittingly giving away.Why my 5-star review?• The “Let Theme” mantra give us a practical mantra that can be used immediately.• It is largely consistent with evidence-based psychology (cognitive behavioral approaches).• It highlights the human tendency to attempt to control the uncontrollable.• The reminders that WE are responsible for our happiness AND we control what we think, say, and do.• Be careful about letting emotions drive (even determine) decisions.• Robbins’ message mirrors a coach-like approach, giving others the freedom to be themselves while choosing how we respond.• Chapters related to using the “Let Them” theory to better manage stress, dealing with difficult people, adult friendships, and much more.• Additional resources at the end of the book on how to use the “Let Them” theory when parenting and with teams.There may be components of the book and the theory that are hard to swallow. I read some of the 1-Star reviews before posting this. While there are reasonable points in those reviews, I believe “take what fits and leave the rest behind.” For me, the “let them/let me” approach provides a straightforward way to remember what I can and cannot control and how I can do what I can to find the greatest satisfaction and joy in life. And I personally measure the value of books read by thge number of notes written in the back of the book. A creative and simplistic approach

The Let Them portion of the book was great. I found the model to be an innovative and creative approach to reshaping theories and concepts that have been around for centuries, especially in the spiritual community. I particularly liked the simplicity of it all. I also appreciated the candid sharing from Mel, using her life stories and challenges as examples. With that said, the second half of the book was Mel providing relationship advice to her readers. That wasn't very useful for me. Coming up with a creative rebranding of old material was one thing but providing relationship advice? Not sure about that. Otherwise, a good read.Ver más

Great Book

I really enjoyed reading “Let Them”. It’s an easy read with a simple message that sticks with you: you can’t control other people, only how you respond. It helped me look at things differently and worry less about what others think or do. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a book that’s encouraging without being complicated.Ver más

Self-help that feels doable!!

I’ve read a lot of personal development books, but this one really stood out. What I appreciated most was how Mel Robbins shares her own stories and experiences so openly. Instead of feeling like a lecture, it feels like advice from someone who has actually lived through the challenges she’s talking about.The “Let Them” theory is incredibly simple, but that’s exactly what makes it so powerful. It’s easy to understand and even easier to apply to everyday situations with family, friends, work, and relationships. I found myself thinking about the concept long after I finished listening.In fact, I listened to the audiobook three times before deciding to buy a physical copy so I could highlight passages and make notes. This book has helped me shift my perspective, let go of things I can’t control, and focus more on my own peace and happiness.If you’re looking for practical advice that you can start using immediately, this book is well worth your time.Ver más

Let Them read this book!

Great insights on how to get the most out of your relationships with people and how to navigate difficult situations in life by being honest with yourself and others. Very helpful tool, thanks Mel!!!
