A Simple Upgrade That Transformed My Local Smart Home

Powerful Device but I would be Cautious to say “For Beginners”
I ended up buying this device about 2 months ago when the Alexa devices could no longer access the Sengled cloud servers. This change rendered most of my smart bulbs useless via Alexa voice control, so that’s how I landed on Home Assistant Green.I admittedly did not do enough research to truly understand what I was buying and I’ve spent the last 2 months experimenting and this ultimately was a great purchase for me. In addition to the cost of the Home Assistant Green (Which isn’t peanuts necessarily) I had to buy 4 additional antennas so HA could communicate with the various devices I have. Another cost was a powered USB hub so I could connect all 4 USB antennas at once; due to HA only having 2 USB ports. These are all relatively cheap antennas (around $20-25/a piece) but costs are slowly adding up. To be fair though, HA did discover a lot of my devices just out of the box and hardwired to my router, so if you just need the basics, then you might not need to purchase anything additional depending on your device setup. BUT, if you do want more control and flexibility with your current mixed brand smart devices, then HA with a couple of small add-ons is the way to go. The reason I would say this isn’t exactly for beginners is because it’s not necessarily a plug n’ play setup like it is setting up devices in Amazon Alexa. Depending on your devices and how easily they integrate with Home Assistant Green would determine the level of experience needed to fully leverage the automation capabilities of the Home Assistant. I’ve been able to move all of my smart home devices under one roof now through Home Assistant and utilize local control all while maintaining voice control with Alexa via the Home Assistant Cloud subscription.All in all this has been a great little investment and with some effort to learn on my part, I’ve really been able to dial in control over my home smart devices and setup some automations that are only possible through Home Assistant Green (and possibly other “like devices”).Ver másVer menos

A wonderful little device that is as powerful as you want it to be.
I was a little overwhelmed when I first setup my Home Assistant green. It becomes obvious pretty quickly at how truly powerful this device is. It can be simple and basic if thats what you want. But if you are curious and willing to invest the time, the power at your fingertips will blow your mind. I started with a basic dashboard that displayed the few smart devices that I had, but soon I was diving headfirst into customizing the information that is shown and learning how to make it work with Alexa. Fast forward a year and I now have over 60 devices that is under its control. It works flawlessly and soon you will be installing Hacs and adding integrations that make it work for you. The customization is only limited by your imagination and I find myself tinkering with it daily. It's not work but more of a guilty pleasure.If you pull the trigger and purchase the Home Assistant green you will not regret it!Ver másVer menos

Magic at your fingertips, 1, 2, 3.
The product came as advertised. Well packaged and appealing. Easy to install and this is really plug and play. A nice touch is the power plug section which has adapters for most countries so no additional adapters required. Connectivity to current systems and discovery of devices within the home is like magic, when you look it is there. For beginners it is well worth noting that you may have to connect your ESPHome device directly to the Home Assistant Green hub, to flash the ESP for the first time. It does not seem to compile for the USB device on your computer. All in all a really great productVer másVer menos

Tricky but reliable and rewarding
They're not kidding when they say this will be your new hobby. Open a browser window on your computer and another with AI to walk you through because you will NEVER figure it out by trial and error. That said, it works wonderfully and has tons of software/hardware integrations. I was able to take my many non-Apple devices and get them working great with Apple Home thanks to the Homekit Bridge on this device. It's a process but once it's done you can Siri-operate every device you have.Ver másVer menos

Transition went really easily!
So far so good. I have been a long-time user of an HAOS install on a TrueNAS Core server as a virtual machine. This was SOOO easy. Back up current HA instance --> Shut down current instance --> Turn on HA RPi Green and connect to the network. Upload the backup and it's over. So easy.Ver másVer menos
