This one is Awesome ! No. Really Really. I was literally in AWE after using.

To be honest this isn't my typical 1st choice by brand, but after a few orders and use of this one I was completely awed by how good it was. Very consistent , clean & free of debris which can sometimes be a problem in buying bricks of Coco, and always get more after hydration than "advertised" or "expected" (typically in the ranges of 14-15 gallons). One thing that should be done is to weigh the brick after receiving. I have seen others and have read reviews stating it was not the specified weight on the product packaging or advertised yet this has yet to happen to me as I have always (so far) received 10 lbs or more in pre-hydrated weight. 11 and even 12 lbs on rare occasions. Also this will need to be buffered if that is what your specific use case requires. Anyone who uses this for similar types of plant growing should have some knowledge of the cation exchange rate using Coco a a growing medium. I grow many different type of vegetables and a limited types of fruit so it is required for my usage. Moisture retention is outstanding. After hydration this mix is very fluffy, loamy and extremely durable if multiple season/harvests are your plan. Needless to say this is now my GO TO brand regardless of the fact I have to manually buffer it ........if you will. Stocking up while the price is right. "Back to you Bob".So ...... Grow on my friends. Grow on !Ver másVer menos

Perfect solution if you have limited space to work and still want a lot of soil

While this wasn’t my first experience working with plants, it was my first time needing to completely replace soil to rescue a plant from gnat-infested soil. I chose Back to the Roots Organic Coir, 51 Quart Expanding Soil because I wanted a clean, organic option that would help eliminate pests rather than reintroduce them. I also was working with a small space to replant. I did this in the bathroom. I placed the compressed block directly into a 27-gallon tote and added water let it expand and did a little chopping with a spatula. What stood out the most was just how much soil this product produced. Expanding the coir directly in the 27-gallon tote nearly filled the entire container, which really exceeded my expectations for a single compressed block. The soil has a rich, fine texture and looks evenly hydrated and well-aerated, as shown in the image. It was easy to work with and didn’t feel heavy or muddy, making it ideal for gently replanting without compacting the roots too tightly.Overall, this expanding soil made a stressful plant-rescue situation feel manageable and successful. The lightweight texture retains moisture while still draining well, which is especially important when dealing with fungus gnats. Since switching to this soil, the plant feels more stable and supported, and the surface stays clean instead of soggy. For anyone needing to refresh contaminated soil, repot stressed plants, or simply wants a clean and reliable organic growing medium, Back to the Roots Organic Coir delivers excellent volume, quality, and peace of mind.Picture is of the newly repotted plant.Ver másVer menos

Great alternative to lugging home heavy bags of potting soil!

I love this alternative to bringing home bags of potting soil! Absorbs water quickly, expands quickly, plants love it.

Fibrous texture not powdery like competitors

Great fibrous texture. I’ve gotten powdery coco coir from other brands but this brand is consistent and great. The value for what you get is very fair.Extremely low dust. Rehydrates easily. I’ve bought two 51qt bricks from here already. Will come back in future.Ver másVer menos

  Great quality with one caveat

The coir is great quality however, if you aren’t going to use it right away, make sure to store it properly. The plastic wrapping is very thin and doesn’t hold up well under extreme weather conditions. I had to wait before using it because temps over 100 here and I wasn’t up to doing any planting. On the last day of the heat wave we had a rainstorm. I wasn’t aware of any holes in the packaging when it arrived so I’m not sure if they were caused by the heat but the rain got into the package causing it to expand. Because the plastic was thin, it completely ripped open and the coir was all over the walk. I was able to salvage most of it altho it was no longer compact. I had a couple of smaller blocks left over that had thicker plastic and they didn’t have this issue. While I take partial responsibility for the not storing it better, I feel that if the plastic had been thicker it might not have happened.Ver másVer menos

  Earthworm 🪱 safe

I bought this expanding coir soil specifically to use as bedding for my vermicomposting bin, and it turned out to be a perfect choice. Once hydrated, the texture becomes soft, fluffy, and holds moisture evenly—exactly what earthworms need to breathe, move, and thrive. There are no additives or chemical smells, which gave me peace of mind knowing my worms were in a safe, organic environment. What I liked most is how clean and easy it is compared to typical dirt or peat-based mixes. It expands way more than you expect, so one block goes a long way. The worms burrowed into it immediately and started breaking it down, and I noticed activity and casting production increased within just a few days. It also controls odor naturally and keeps good airflow in the bin.If you’re into vermicomposting or setting up a worm farm, this is one of the best bedding bases you can start with—light, airy, and holds the perfect amount of moisture without getting muddy or compacted.Highlights:Expands a lot with just water (cost-effective)Ideal moisture retention and airflow for worm health100% organic and safe for compostingNo mess, no odor — very beginner-friendlyVer másVer menos
