Benji’s fav - Doggie crack! Great bribe.
My 3 year old Shih Tzu is, shall we say, “highly selective” (vs “picky”) Chicken and turkey are his favorite tastes (by FAR!). We’ve tried most of the chew sticks sold and these are the only ones that rate consistently excited tail wags. Some of the others he deigned to chew on reluctantly while shooting me the famous Shih Tzu side-eye, and some he wouldn’t touch.I feed him only healthy & mainly wet, so we save the crunchies for after meals to give his teeth a bit of a workout. Yes, I bribe him - no chewstick until his bowl shows some serious progress. Thank goodness they are rawhide free!He actually rations these guys, working on one small knob then saving the stick with the leftover knobs on “our” bed or in his rolling carry bag that I set up to serve as one of his Benji-caves. He will go back several times a bit later the same day for the next knob, etc. guarding them carefully until I do the final toy & treat put-away. I rarely find more than the occasional soggy leftover stick from this brand. Others go to my neighbor’s dog.If I absentmindedly order one of his former rejects he actually sniffs before walking away without even tasting (as if to say, “Another for Louie, Mom, when are you going to learn I won’t eat it?”) Times in the past when I’ve offered him a choice it has ALWAYS been this one.Shih Tzus are a funny little breed, each one unique in behaviors & preferences. Now a senior, I’ve had 8 since grad school so I speak from *personal expertise* when I say that. So I don’t know what our experience means for your “highly selective” fur-babies but if you haven’t tried this brand I encourage you to give it a test run.
