A new favorite!!
This is one of my favorites of the year so far, it absolutely gripped me from start to finish! This book has everything I most look for in a romantasy: an incredibly unique magic system, an evil ruler to overthrow, tension & banter, a misunderstood villain of a love interest, lots of danger & deception, and some of the tropes we know & love ghat are executed in new & exciting ways. I ate this book up.I love when my impressions of a character are thwarted completely, especially in an enemies to lovers story. Creon is the kind of reputed villain at the beginning of Emin’s story that I really, really had a hard time imagining redeemed. He has a complex, sheltered morally grey background that seems impossible to escape, but Lisette managed to create such a nuanced character and story with him. He’s terrifying but also full of so much hurt & longing, as well as bravery that he has never let go of despite all the things that have gone wrong. Emelin is so fiery and fun, but also full of a lot of softness & hurt she has yet to work through. These two made me laugh out loud with every turn, & their relationship toward each other changed in such an organic way.The plot of this loves quick, but still allows for lots of quieter moments and time to get to know & love the characters, as well as to intimately explore the world and magic. Lisette created such a vivid scene with this book, I felt like I could picture it all in my head flawlessly. I read this in just a few days because it was hard to want to focus on anything else! The ending had me scrambling to download the next book, which fortunately is already available as the fourth & final book in the series is about to publish on 4/2, making this the perfect time to pick it up!Ver másVer menos
