Enhanced dialog and cinema-liked immersive sound, great plus for supporting Play-Fi and ATMOS!
Been looking for a DTS Play-Fi compatible soundbar and found this Philips B8405. Play-Fi works better than expected, following the instruction from Philips it takes only few minutes to set the system up. Out of the box the soundbar provide a clear dialog enhancement. With some few tweaks using the app you can get a immersive theater sound too! I'm also really surprised that this soundbar supports ATMOS giving it's a 2.1 channel. Maybe that's why there's a immersive feel with the sound. The packaging materiel is not so impressive though. For example the tape they use for instruction leaves adhesive over the back of the soundbar and it is very hard to remove. But, overall this is a solid soundbar packed with latest and greatest Technology and I'm a happy customer!Ver másVer menos

It Sounds Much Bigger Than it Looks!
I bought this soundbar because it has DTS Play-Fi which I use as a whole house audio system. I placed it in my garage gym where I have a TV I use for exercise videos and use the play-fi music streaming when just working out. I used to have just a single play-fi speaker from Def-Tech that retails for around $399 that lacked the HDMI input I needed for the TV. I wasn't expecting much in term s of music sound quality and wow, was I surprised. This sound bar sounds huge, it just fills my rather large garage with clear, quality sound. The subwoofer took a little dialing in but blends nicely and really fills in the bottom end. Thank you Philips for such a great product, recommended.Ver másVer menos

For the price, it is decent if on sale...
After owning this soundbar for 3 months, it did have a lot of connectivity issues. Due to this, it required me to reboot the soundbar multiple times until it stopped skipping over audio. However, last month, Phillips dropped a new update and that fixed basically every connectivity problem I've experienced. So there's no longer any audio cutouts no matter which HDMI cord you use (I've tested this with all cords I had available) Now I can turn it on without feeling like the audio is gonna cut out soon. I must though, it's better if you use custom settings and NOT the preset settings (movie, stadium, voice, and etc), and customized the frequencies. If you prioritize where you can hear the voice clearly first, the music and sound effects can be adjusted after and you'll have the sound you are looking for or aka the best sound you can get out of this soundbar. The bass is a bit heavy where voices sound muddled, so adjusting the subwoofer and going lowest frequency that covers the bass helps there. Great for small rooms, but larger rooms, look elsewhere (I'd suggest 3.1 channel or higher for larger rooms). I bought the soundbar for my bedroom and it works well. For $200 or less (mine was around $196 after taxes), this is amazing for the price. Wouldn't pay more than $250 though let alone the $400 retail price tag.Ver másVer menos

Volume control is very, very silly
The sound quality is very good, for what little I listened to. Tried it with Carnival Row, and the Atmos was there. Not super great, but, you aren't paying $1,000, right? It was very clear, and sounded better than the Samsung 2.1 I've had since 2016, which is what I was looking for. And was really looking forward to being able to hook a couple extra speakers with Play Fi, as I do not really care for 3.1, 5.1, 7.1 systems. Hate the center channel being the main voice, very distracting to me. It doesn't mesh.Unfortunately, I didn't bother trying this with other shows, music CDs, and streaming. With the Samsung, a good volume is 10-13, loud will be around 18. You have to get the Philips up to around 30 for hearable, 50 for a good movie volume. And, each press of the volume button will change it from 3-6 per press. That's very silly. I would love to keep it, considering it was on sale for $179.99, but, I know the volume will annoy me greatly. I just don't have an idea of what it is really doing, and, when you have the volume up that high, the beeps from pressing the TV and Firestick remotes is very loud.Sorry, Philips, great idea, but, the volume needs major fixing.Ver másVer menos

Great...Once you get it set up.
The app to set up the sound bar can be a bit complicated. Read the instructions completely for each step before doing that step.Use the HDMI Arc port for easiest set-up, capability to control the sound bar volume with a different remote (TV's), and best audio quality.Fiber optic hook-up has limitations.Ver másVer menos

Airplay
I wanted something for my theater room, but needed to figure out how it would connect the Apple TV to a sound bar when they were on different sides of the room. This model has airplay, and it works great! I specifically got it for that reason, and have also had good experience with Phillips products in the past.Ver másVer menos

Listen Up
I wanted some quality sound when I'm watching TV or want to listen to music. This is not your thousand dollar sound bar but for under $200.00 it sounds fantastic It's easy to assemble and easy to use. You can turn it up when your having a party.

SHUTS OFF AFTER 15 MINUTES
If you are going to use this for a TV, and if you are streaming or using an Apple TV, and using the HDMI/ARC connection beware…..this speaker shuts off after 15 minutes. There is NO WAY to turn this feature off. So, if you have a picture slide show running on your TV, and no sound through the bar for 15 minutes, the sound bar will turn off, and you will not have any picture through your TV anymore, as the signal runs through the bar, and that just shut off.Also, the Alexa integration is terrible. Works almost never, more of a hassle to get it to connect and work than it’s worth.The PlayFi app is glitchy and not well done.The sound of the bar and sub is OK. Not amazing, but for $200 it’s not a bad sounding bar.The issue that really ruins this sound bar for me is that it shuts off after 15 minutes, and you cannot turn that setting off. It’s automatic, and locked in. I have searched and called their support (which is also horrible, getting a human on the phone is like trying to call the POTUS) and they told me that there is no way to turn off the automatic shutdown after 15mins.I would return this sound bar if I could.Ver másVer menos
