GREAT Case!!! Will be buying MANY more!

I LOVE THIS CASE!!! It is SO simple to assemble and works EXACTLY as advertised. It simply does what I need it to do!!!To address issues raised by a couple of other reviewers:1) One person gave it 1 star because there are no port labels. If you don't know the difference between USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, you probably don't need to be working with Linux based systems and SBC projects. No port labels isn't a deal breaker for me. Is it for you?2) One person gave it 1 star because of the space between the built-in heatsink and the CPU. NEWS FLASH: the case comes with a thermal PAD! Not thermal paste. Not thermal tape. A THERMAL PAD!!!!!! The space is there to accommodate the thickness of the pad. In fact, another reviewer measured the distance between the heatsink and the CPU in order to purchase a copper heatsink thick enough to bridge the gap. He then added thermal paste. This gap is supposed to be there.Bottom line, the case is the best on the market! It SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the operating temp without any of the noise a fan produces. It's also a sleek design. AND the value is just unbeatable. Try it out. You won't buy another case for your Pis.Ver más

Excellent passive cooling case with great fit and finish.

I received the CanaKit branded version of this case with my latest Raspberry Pi purchase and like it so much I decided to purchase one for my other Pi 4B. It turns out that this is the same case that CanaKit rebranded for their kits and it was inexpensive! I extremely happy with the fit of this case as it provides access to all the external ports and the SD card slot. The ports all line up perfectly with the openings in the case and the SD card is easily accessible. As an added bonus, there is a cutout next to the SD card slot that provides visibility to both the power and the activity LEDs on the end of the Pi board. The bottom of the case is plastic and the top has a snap on soft-feel plastic cover over the aluminum. I've had no issues with WiFI or Bluetooth being blocked while in this case.As far as cooling goes, the case is fantastic. I'm running Docker, Portainer, and Pi-hole processes 24x7 and the temps have settled around 45 C with the Pi sitting on a shelf in my server rack. The Pi has never come close to thermal throttling even under high loads and it remains silent due to the absence of a fan.In my opinion this is the best no-frills, passive cooling Raspberry Pi 4B cases available, and it looks good too!Ver más

Gr8 Case for Pi 4! Even overclocked at 2Gz

This is a great case for the Raspberry Pi4. I overclocked it at 2Gz and surprisingly it stayed way below 80 C. In stress test it never peaked over 61C. And that is without a fan. The entire case becomes a heat sink so careful it gets hot. Under idle it sits at 38-39C. I ordered the Argon 1 for the Pi4 and it didn't even power up. Had to return it. I may order another one of these. It's a gr8 looking case, $10 cheaper and no daughter board to go bad or not work like the Argon 1. I even was able to use a ribbon cable to get to the GPIO pins and keep the case closed. If you're looking to use the camera or CSI display you need to take the top off. But I use it hooked up to my TV to run get IPTV through a browser so I can stay a cord cutter (or YouTube). Hooked up through HDMI cable. Such a great case and sleek design. Unbelievable cooling. Very impressed with this case

I'm very impressed with this case. I've admittedly never used or owned a raspberry pi before recently, so I was worried about a few things -- I've heard they can overheat under stress pretty easily, I wasn't sure how hard it'd be to assemble something that has a good look and feel from the bare-bones circuit board that's usually displayed, and I hoped I wouldn't be forced to get a case with a fan as I wanted something that was as compact and quite as possible and could be ported around easily. This seemed like the best way to solve all of those concerns and I wasn't disappointed.For ease of assembly, it has four screws that go in the bottom, and a small thermal pad that goes on the CPU and makes contact with the case. All you have to do is stick that on, put the board in the case (this took a little fiddling for me but it won't go in wrong so that's good), and screw the bottom on. It's then set up, and definitely portable as the whole setup is only about the size of two decks of cards stacked on top of each other.The cooling really stood out. I turned the pi on running raspbian and did some general average-work-load tests, keeping the CPU at about 50% capacity and checking the temperature every so often. It tended to stay around 55 C and would NOT exceed 60 C. Once that went well, I decided to put the unit under some stress by running a benchmark, a python script doing some calculations, and having several browser tabs open. I ran a temperature monitor while doing this, kept the CPU usage mostly in the 90s for ten minutes, and the temperature never exceeded 67 C. In fact, it stayed around 60 C for most of this experiment. For reference, note that the pi doesn't throttle at all until 80. I thought that perhaps my unit wasn't reporting the temperature correctly for some reason but as my results seem to line up with other reviews on here, I'll take them to be accurate. The case does get uncomfortably warm to the touch during this process if that's of concern, but I don't believe it's hot enough to cause a burn or otherwise be a hazard.Since I know some aluminum cases cause wifi issues, I figure it's worth mentioning that I had no trouble connecting this to the internet or bluetooth. I was able to do both, operate the pi using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard with no problems, and measure internet speeds similar to those on my laptop using speedtest.net.As for drawbacks, the only one I could think of is that this case doesn't allow open access to the GPIO pins or any other portion of the board, and must be disassembled if you wish to make changes to any setups involving these. If you're just running raspbian, using this as a media center/retro console, or doing something else that doesn't actually require this access then that won't be a big deal, but I thought it was worth a mention.In summary, if you're getting a raspberry pi 4, are on the fence about what case to get or how to cool it, and you don't care about being able to access the GPIO pins on a regular basis, then this case won't disappoint you. It does everything you'd expect a good cooling case to do, is easy to assemble, and feels durable enough I frankly don't see myself ever having to replace it. Will likely buy again if I ever get a second pi 4 for any reason.

A nice fit

I purchased two of these circa 2020 and 2021. Both seem ok and fit the pi perfectly. However, after a couple years, the plastic top and bottom plates on one of them became sticky with a black residue. Isopropyl alcohol helped to remove some goo, but the top is still very sticky. The other item (newer?) is still fine about four years later.This aluminum case does not horribly attenuate WiFi. At 30 feet from an access point (in the next room) it receives 5GHz band at -61dBm. Bluetooth LE (with an Aranet4 device) also seems ok and works well from two rooms away!Ver más

Cools Very Well! Pi 4 B 4GB

I was using a Plastic Case with 3 heatsinks prior to installing this case. In the photo the left side is the temperature graph over most of a day with the plastic case. Then there is a dip and the right side of the photo is most of a day with this new Flirc case. The temperature difference is between 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit lower for the Flirc Case.Installation was easy, I only removed the previously installed CPU heatsink. I left the RAM and USB heatsinks in place. Installed the thermal pad to the CPU after cleaning it with some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Popped the Pi into the top of the case as per the instructions. Placed the bottom on and lightly tightened the 4 screws.I had been battling overheating and throttling on this Pi 4 for weeks and fried 2 test Pi 3B+ trying to build a temperature controlled fan system for the Pi 4 before I tried this case, I am glad I finally got this one, and to save anyone else time and headache, if you have a Pi 4 and temperature probblems, save yourself time and money and get this case. At around $15 it cost as much as what I spent on the fan I was trying to use, it is quieter, and it doesn't involve any circuits or wiring to keep it mostly quiet. The Flirc case is passively cooled so no noise, and it works great.The one con about this case, which should be fairly apparent, the outside of the case (because it is the heatsink) gets very warm to the touch. I would recommend gloves or letting your Pi 4B cool for a few minutes after shutting down before attempting to handle it. It likely won't burn you but sustained contact is certainly uncomfortable.Ver más
