Perfect for Small Children

This tablet is no more and no less than what a starter tablet needs to be. I’d say it’s perfect for kids 5 and under. I gifted them to my 2 and 3-year-old nieces for Christmas this year and they seem to love them. I also caught them in November when they were 2 for $100 so I feel like I got a great deal.Setup: I'm used to iOS as all my devices are Apple, but setup was easy enough. I didn't run into any major issues or glitches that hindered me from adding their apps and books. It connected to a Wi-fi network just fine. No problems.Function: The screen quality is clear and crisp. Touch-screen response is good. The icons are displayed largely and vibrantly for simplicity and ease of use for small children. Apps open and close with no random glitches or error messages. The bumper case around it provides a thick layer of protection and makes it easier for your kid to grip the tablet and hold onto it. Would also be very difficult for a toddler to mischievously try and take it off. The little kickstand is a nice touch for stationary use, although, teach your child to be ginger with it. I can see it being very easy to break it off if you’re man-handling and kids can be rough with their things.Freetime Content: I was able to choose mainstream content they know and love so that it better holds their interest. Frozen, Mickey, Hotel Transylvania, Spongebob. Basically, all their favorite Disney and Nickelodeon stuff with a variety of other things sprinkled in. The content selection gets an A+.Content Sharing: You can choose to “share content” from your Amazon account under their Freetime profile, which is how I added their movies. There may be another way to add movies to their profile, but I didn’t play around with it long enough to figure it out. That method was easiest for me, so I ran with it.Features: The parent or guardian has ALL control regarding what their child sees or does under the Freetime profile, and profiles cannot be switched without a pin. That’s awesome unless your kid is like some type of baby hacker genius who can figure that pin out. Then beware, I guess. Otherwise, the Freetime profile is isolated and has its own thing going. It's JUST for kids. No inappropriate apps or videos mixed in for you to filter through. No wacky settings you must turn on or off to fix things the exact way you want them to be. If you allow the child to be connected to the internet while using, you don't have to worry about them seeing anything they’re not supposed to. When you set up the Freetime profile, you will also be entering your child's age which will customize the look of the profile and the type of content that will be offered for download as far as learning stages and comprehension. Does a huge chunk of the work for you when it comes to picking out things your kid will enjoy. Lastly, these have a feature that allow you to place time limits on how long and often your child can use the tablet. Now, my personal belief is that if the child is using kid-friendly content, they’re learning, and are being kept productively occupied, I don’t see the harm in them using the tablet for longer than is deemed “normal” or “acceptable” by someone with a big mouth. It’s common sense to try and not to let your kid turn into a couch potato. I don’t have children, but I still know it’s tough being a parent, so I’ll reserve judgement as should everyone else. Kids are rambunctious balls of constant energy and if these provide you with even the tiniest moments of peace & harmony from your kids, don’t be guilted or shamed out of letting them use it often. The world is technology driven and it can only put your child ahead of the curve to be fluent in the use of electronics. If you see your child developing an unhealthy addiction, that’s when I’d step in. Chances are, they know when to throw the tablet down and go chase the dog or climb a tree. Again, just my opinion.Suggested Additional Purchases: You may want to pick up an SD card as 16 Gigabits is NOT enough storage for a tablet and fills up quickly. If you’re wanting to store a good amount of movies/shows for long car rides, doctor visits, etc., spring for additional storage. A car charger would also be a good idea for travelling, especially chargeable battery packs so that it can be re-charged even if you can’t get to a power outlet. Also, headphones, headphones, HEADPHONES for kids! Unless you want to help Dora the Explorer cross that bridge 13,000 times, I suggest you grab a pair!Complaints: I don’t really have any complaints about them as of right now. They work well and the babies are happy with them. My only hope is that they can withstand the juice, food particles, and sticky candy-coated fingers coming their way. Even if they only get a few years out of them, they’re worth what I paid. The older they get, I’ll spring for something more advanced. For their age right now though, these are perfect.Ver más

So happy!

I was so happy this morning that I even teared up. I cant help but post a full positive reviw and we just got this. We weren't expecting this untill tomorrow evening and it was already on the front porch bright and early, even though I just ordered it a couple days ago as well as the flood of Christmas deliveries Im sure the mail services are flooded with. Kudos to them!I woke up this morning early and with my son sound asleep, to find the package to my surprise waiting on the porch. My heart lept with joy at the opportunity to have it all set for him when he woke up rather than later in the day, on top of having it a day earlier than expected.I opened the box and was immediately ecstatic at the quality of everything promised and being in line with the overwhelming amount of positive reviews. Im here to confirm and add to them.This is just my immediate impression, I had in my hands the flag ship of a devices for a young child from a parent. The quality is immediately apparent in your hands, espeacially considering its weight. I visualized it being a little awkward to hold by the pictures in the add, but this was not at all the case. Set up was amazingly simple and quick, the Amazon FreeTime for kids is pre-installed from the get go and is spot on for the most part that you can fine tune for yourself as you go and see the need. One thing to pay attention to, that took me a bit to figure out, and actually turned out to be an even cooler aspect of it all, is that your initial PIN/Password is your own as a parent, not the one you can later opt to set for your child as a screen lock which is what I had the impression of durring set up. So set your parental PIN/Password initially, which is what you will use to get into the settings and such. After set up, you go into settings and turn on your childs screen lock which is where you will set one for your child. I made this mistake. The settings here at this point are fairly limited and will only allow you to change your childs screen lock. Now this is the cool, after I figured it out. From your chikds profile that you just set up, pull down the drop down menu and click the icon next to the settings icon and you can switch to your parental account which is already to go with your Amazon profile! From here you have full functionality of all device settings just like any other android tablet. Here you can manage the PIN/Password for the device itself and control all features. I really like the OS and its layout, Amazon and all your stuff and features you already have set for your account transfer right in and are set without having to do another set up. Just awesome IMO.Now with it all set up, I was teying to figure out what to do as my son was still asleep. Set it on the bed next to him, place it on the table where he would find it when he wakes and comes out.... I packaged it all back up, put it back in the box it shipped in and taped it, and placed it back on the porch in front of the door where the delivery man had set it. This kid waks up like every morning, with a huge smile and just happy. He ask if the mail hd come and I tell him to look, he pushes his head head to the window from his room and doesn't see anything. "Not today," he says contently. I tell him to check out the front door, he does. His reaction just lifts my spirit as he starts his exciting gestures. He gets to open it it like it was just delivered, and see it was already customized to him...I know its not a big thing, but its everything, the moments. It pretty much is our Christmas for this year, and the price tag as remarkable. Now like I said, a flag ship device for a young child. The specs and features are quality and unbelievably out weigh the price point. Thank you Amazon.

Bought for my 2 yr Old. Appears Indestructible! Very Educational!

UPDATE! It's now been 7 months since we've received this tablet for my 2 yr old! I LOVE it! More importantly he loves it! He uses it literally every single day. I am super impressed its still alive! Not a single scratch! Ready to order a 2nd and pass this one on to his younger brother!I bought this for my 2 yr old little guy. We have had it 2 months now & I'm in LOVE. Will be ordering a 2nd one here soon for my younger baby as soon as he is ready, and even thinking about one for my 10yr old son to help him get some extra help with reading. Here are my top Favorite things...1. Very Durable, Very Strong Case! 2 Yr. Warranty just incase.2. Screen set up allows him to play all on his own3. Amazon Kids FreeTime/Parental Controls/Pick the age you want content for.4. Getting so much Learning in!5. Great for an away from home distraction. Dr. Appointments/Car Rides.6. AGAIN Very DURABLE, Seems Unbreakable!CON... Took me a bit to figure out how everything worked best. How it was best to use/set up. At first I was ehhh with the Amazon Kids. But I DID get it all figured out & now I'm SUPER happy with everything & couldn't live without it!I'm taking the time out of my busy schedule to write out this review because I sure know its something I would have wanted to see before taking the plunge on this purchase before Christmas.So for #1. Very Durable, Very Strong Case! AND 2 Yr. Warranty just incase. My 2yr old being able to own a tablet without breaking it was one of the main things I was worried about. This thing is AMAZING! If I can give it to him to have all on his own & not have to worry about him breaking it you KNOW its got to be durable! I've already seen this thing take a couple of tumbles, throws & all. It bounces when it falls so eloquently, almost like a 5 star tumble routine, lol The edges of the case just seem to be designed in the most perfect way to create this tumble routine when it hits the floor. The only thing I can't do is let him use the tablet while plugged in. He has already broken 2 chargers off in the port from trying to pull it away. The charging port on the tablet itself made it through that disaster too! The A HUGE thing for me that made me go with THIS tablet over others was the 2 yr warranty. Its so nice to know we will be able to have it replaced if there ever is a problem. It takes a huge worry off my chest. He REALLY does love having this & it would be so sad to see it not around anymore.As for my #2 reason for loving this tablet (2. Screen set up allows him to play all on his own.) I can just hand this tablet to my 2yr old & he can navigate it perfectly. He cant get into the tablets settings, or anything other than what I choose for him to be in for that matter. This is really HUGE! This means he doesn't need me to fix something every 5 seconds that he cant navigate through himself. This all goes along with my #3 reason for loving this tablet....#3 The Amazon Kids... Little did I realize how awesome this would be to have over other tablet Brands. Its free for awhile with the purchase of the tablet, and then only like $2 a month after. Totally worth it! I will say there was a bit of a learning curve for ME to figure out how to use it. I think maybe this had alot to do with never owning an Amazon Product with different profiles, ect. Il explain further in a second. First, I can choose his age range, exact names I don't want him to use. For example say I don't want him to see any SpongeBob. You can also require or choose time limits for things. For example I want him to only be able to read for 30 minutes before going on to playing games. Or maybe I only want him to have an hour total of tablet time for the entire day. I set it up once and it takes care of everything after that. I dont have to be the meanie & take it away! lol This is why I'm really thinking about getting one for my 10 yr old. I have a hard time getting him to read. I think this would be a fun way to help him. I can set his age range, and the amount of time he needs to read each day.I'm running out of time writing this long review & need to get back to my responsibilities, so onto my one CON. lol It did take be a bit to figure out exactly how everything worked. For example I didn't realize I could go completely out of my Amazon kids profile into my own which basically was the interface of a regular old tablet/kindle. When you are in the kids profile your basically stuck on the Amazon Kids FreeTime interface. This is GOOD because this means your kid cant get into all the other things that would make it really complicated for them to use on their own. Its basically already set up with your OWN Amazon account that you already have. You can set up as many different profiles as you want. Kids or Adult! Within your Adult profile you have MUCH more detailed access to everything & even adding specific apps to your kids profile.So whenever we first got this I thought it was really odd you couldn't read detailed descriptions of apps to choose for your kids. I also didn't understand why I couldn't get other apps I wanted outside the Freetime interface. Under the kids profile you set your age range & amazon kids gives your kid everything age appropriate that they would enjoy. You basically just see a picture, click it & it downloads it to your kids library without much detail. Well, under the ADULT profile you can add things as a parent that you want them to have. You can see descriptions of the apps and all. You can also go to the Amazon app store and pick apps you want to add that aren't necessarily included in the Freetime interface.Also, when we first started using this I had myself all concerned with how on the FreeTme interface everything available in his FreeTime (that I STILL chose restrictions for) was just downloadable. I guess I was worried he would just download everything until he had no space left. All books, all videos, all everything. Well, yes he did fill up his memory but its fine! I can go back through every once in awhile & take out some things so he can get new things. A trick I also learned was if you go ahead and turn WIFI of, it ONLY shows the content already downloaded on the screen. Either way it ended up fine. After a couple weeks of using it he learned all on his own how to navigate things. Keep in mind he is only 2. It all worked out. He actually knows when he sees the Youtube arrow that those are videos he can watch. (Youtube is also under restrictions from the Freetime app & are age appropriate. You can always allow more, or less if you want under the adult profile) Also keep in mind there are the Parental Controls where if you want your child to read for so long before the games show you can do that too.All I know is WE LOVE THIS! Even after it was a bit odd at first to figure out or get used to. I would HIGHLY recommend this tablet for young kids/babies over anything else! I hope this review helps someone out there take the plunge on this. I waited quite a few months thinking about it because I wasn't sure he was ready for something like this. I'm totally glad we got it. The educational value this has offered us has been perfect! My son knows so much at 2. His colors, his letters, his numbers. I'm giving this tablet some credit for sure! :)

We have had this product since November 2020...

Edit: after 3 years of use, this thing bit the dust and no longer takes a charge. However, for the price of the fire and how much we like it over an iPad, we will be buying another soon!!We bought this for my daughter when she was 3 for Christmas in 2020. We have owned it for 2.5 years now. Here are the pros and cons as a parent having this tablet:Pros:-The amazon kids profile apps are unmatched... you're not going to find most of these games on your iPhone or an iPad (we've tried) and the BEST part is that there are zero in app purchases and zero apps that ask for the parent to make a profile or sign up for a subscription. When downloading apps on our iPhone or iPad, it seems like you almost always have to pay for a subscription or there are ads that the kids have to watch or they are in the way when they're trying to play. There is none of this on the amazon kids profile. This is the number 1 reason why I would recommend a kindle fire over an iPad.-The cover that this thing came with makes this thing almost indestructible. We have dropped it, I'm pretty sure it's probably been thrown across the room, etc. and it's in good condition still.-you can download movies using the adult profile. By downloading disney plus or Netflix on the adult profile, you can download movies for your kids to watch. This has come in handy on long car rides!!-The kindle fire PRICE compared to an iPad price... This is definitely the more affordable option.Cons:-I am not sure when the battery life started dwindling, but the battery isn't what it used to be. This tablet is 2.5 years old now, so I think it is to be expected. My son has a kindle fire that is newer, and his battery lasts about 2x longer.-this tablet's processing speed compared to an iPad is ssssllllooowww. You can turn it on and I usually have to wait at least 15 seconds for it to start working. When you switch to the kids profile to the adult profile, this takes at least 15 seconds as well. Minor inconvenience, but worth noting.-this specific tablet's memory does not let my daughter download more than say 20 games at a time? Occasionally I will have to remove the downloads so that she can download the games that she wants to play. Kind of annoying, but my son has one with more memory and he is obviously able to download more games.With all of that being said, I would still buy this and recommend it for little kids over an iPad. There are for sure pros and cons to it when comparing it to an iPad, and it's not perfect, but for kids that just want to play on apps or watch movies on this tablet, highly recommend.

Extremely impressed

First of all I'd like to say u was not going to get a tablet of any kind for my kiddo. However, my 2 year old does have games he can play on our phones that we monitor. The thing is he can accidentally press buttons, reject calls, or accidentally get on apps that aren't meant for him (like Amazon lol)So, I finally started to research tablets and reviews. I wanted something with durability and that I was able to have the best control over what he sees and does.After playing with this tablet and getting the hang of the system (took about 20 minutes from set up to downloading certain games I wanted to playing) I will say I am EXTREMELY impressed.This tablet gives me control over every download, purchase, and even how long he is able to be on it. I was able set up Disney+ easily, and the tablet comes with a 1 year free subscription with games and books galore! All the games I downloaded are user friendly for a 2 year old, and educational too! It's harder for him to accidentally push buttons thay would exit his game therefore keeping him more focused on what he is learning or game he is playing. I havent figured it all out just yet since we just got it today. But so far this is one of the best purchases I've made.A few things to consider;This tablet does lag just a little bit. It's not too bad but some games I noticed work a little bit slower than they might on your phone or an iPad. However, considering the price point and what you're looking to use this for (likd a 2 year old who doesn't care about lag or to read/color) this is perfect!Also this is not set up like an iPad with a home screen separate from the games available to download. If it does this, I just haven't figured it out yet but that does frustrate me a little bit since I can totally see him just clicking whatever game he wants (even though I'd have to approve the download for it to work) I'd rather him not be able to see what I haven't downloaded for him to play.Bonus: adults can use it too! There is a way to set up profiles for adults and kids. Kids can't access the adult profile without a password or pin. I love that I can use it for books or whatever I need it for without having to buy a separate one.Ver más

Perfect

I recently purchased the Fire 7 Kids Tablet for my little one, and it has been an absolute game-changer for us! Highly recommend! Daughter first tablet ever! Durable and reliable!

Daughter’s first tablet ! And she loved it as did i, affordable and having the vase helped out so much to keep it safe as she was growing. Doesn’t hold that much space if your looking for something of that nature but it serves its purpose if you need or want jsut a regular electronic. To stream YouTube or have a few games on for you little one. Comes just as pictured, arrived late but it was the holidays and around Christmas, packaged nicely, no electronical errors to note, and she still has this after 4 years later… it did hold up I can say that! She dropped it several times as she was only 2 at the time so many drops it did take but never broke or was busted. I will highly recommend getting an extra screen protector however, but the case itself is rubber and the color is exactly the pink as shown ….. tablet holds charge but not as compared to the ones today so maybe they have upgraded them since, heavy duty durable outside rubber case to protect from everyday wear and tear also comes equipped with the kick stand built into the case which is also durable to help prop it up when videos are playing and they cannot hold it at the same time, this was my daughters favorite part about it that and the fact that it was pink and her first big girl tablet! I highly recommend for anyone looking to purchase their LOs first tablet!Ver más

I have used Amazon devices for around eight years now. I currently own three Kindle e-readers (1 Kindle Touch, 1 Kindle Paperwhite 3rd generation, and 1 Kindle 10). I also own two Amazon Fire tablets (Kindle 7 – 2015: 5th generation and Kindle 8 – 2018: 8th generation) and 3 Echo devices (1st generation Echo, 2nd generation Echo Dot, and 3rd generation Echo Dot). Please note that I have traded-in some of the dated versions of the above-listed products to get upgraded versions (more on this under the “Saving Money on Purchases” section.)This device is Amazon’s most recently refreshed (2019 – 9th generation) Fire 7 inch Kids Edition Tablet (henceforth referred to as Fire 7 KE) at an excellent price. The Fire 7 (9th generation) is slightly better than the previous generation. The combination of quality and value are tough to beat, and the tablet does well overall. This is a comprehensive review, but for those looking for the bottom line, scroll down to the bottom to see some feedback on how to save money on purchasing the Fire and my final recommendations.I have spent the past few days interacting with the Fire, using it, and reading other online reviews about this version to ensure the comprehensiveness and accuracy of information provided in this review. For reference purposes, this Fire model was last refreshed in 2017. This review overlaps with my review of the Fire 7 tablet because both of these are essentially the same tablet but to a different audience.-THE BOX: The Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet enclosed in the Amazon Kid-Proof case, a quick-start guide, 5W wall adapter, and a USB cord (around 3 foot or 36 inches). The item arrived sealed and packaged well.- AVAILABILITY: a Black tablet with Pink, Blue, or Purple cases with built-in-stand.- Key things that have not changed from the prior Fire 7 KE model:--- Display size remains the same--- PPI remains the same at 171--- RAM remains the same at 1 GB of RAM.--- Speaker and microphone remains the same (mono speaker with built-in microphone)--- Size specifications stay the same--- Two-year service plan remains the same--- 1-year subscription to FreeTime Unlimited with automatic renewal at $2.99 per month plus tax. Please note that parental controls can be used to block all of the below-listed features.--- Accessibility: “VoiceView and Screen Magnifier enable access to the vast majority of Fire tablet features. VoiceView features text-to-speech voice. Fire OS 5 also includes system-wide closed caption settings, adjustable font sizes up to 50% larger, and a variety of book reading text adjustments such as adjustable colors and text spacing. Also includes adjustable font sizes/color, and built-in Oxford dictionary.”--- Surfing the web using Amazon’s web browser - Silk--- Watching movies, TV shows, and listening to music --- Ability to read Kindle books.--- Ability to read the news using Washington Times--- Other apps (games, educational tools, etc. available in Amazon’s app store) plus several prominent apps included like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.--- Ability to get set-up email apps, calendar, etc.--- Ability to play games that can be downloaded from the app store.* Basically, this can function as both an adult and a kid’s tablet (older kids or adults can use it by disabling FreeTime).- Amazon FreeTime Unlimited--- Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is a subscription that offers over “20,000 books, movies, TV shows, apps and games for kids 3-12. Age Filters ensure kids see age-appropriate content. Parents can add content to kids' profiles to give them more access to apps and games.” “In FreeTime, kids do not have access to social media or Alexa. In-app purchases require parent approval. Parents can exit FreeTime using a passcode.” Another unique feature is Amazon’s FreeTime Unlimited in Spanish! Hopefully, there will be even more language options in the future to help bilingual or multilingual families and also to help those who wish to learn additional languages.--- Parents also have the option “to set educational goals and curfews, and manage content for up to 4 child profiles with easy-to-use parental controls.” This is really not as intuitive as it should be and can be frustrating to use. I have docked down a star as this has yet to be comprehensively developed.--- Generally speaking - FreeTime Unlimited offers an unbeatable value – I mean where else on earth can you get kid-friendly and generally holistic content for $2.99/month (after the 1-year subscription expires). Additionally, kids can’t make any additional purchases without parental authorization so it protects parents from liabilities.*FreeTime unlimited has several nifty features that I cannot cover because of space limitations but it is pretty intuitive and outstanding. Amazon has done an outstanding job in this process. Parents have a lot of flexibility in choosing and curating content for children, permitting downloads, and even setting the tablet to turn-off after a preset amount of use or at a set time and turn on at a set time. This is a great feature, so you don’t have to constantly follow your kid saying – “you have 5 more minutes before to turn the tablet off.” The automatic turn-off absolves parents from this responsibility, avoids a potential meltdown, and teaches kids to be time conscious.- Testing:Wi-Fi: I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi network without any technical difficulties. The process was pretty straightforward.- Saving money on purchasing the Fire Tablet Kids Edition--- The cost for the 16 GB Fire 7 will be $99.99.--- Customers should also know that they can easily trade-in their prior Fire tablet for Amazon gift cards (for $5-$25 depending on version and condition), which also entitles them to receive an additional 25% discount towards their new Fire.--- My recommendation would be to purchase this item during a sale event (for instance, Amazon Prime day is coming up in July). The customer can get this tablet for around $20 off during Prime day (based on prior sales analysis), and then stack the trade-in price and the 25% discount to get this item for a minimal cost (maybe you can snag it for $20 in total or lesser if everything is applied correctly). However, one thing to keep in mind is that Amazon might decide to remove the trade-in gift card and 25% discount at any point.--- Sometimes Amazon provides bundle sales on products (get 2 or 3 items for a substantial discount). This is something for consumers to consider.- Conclusion:To sum up my review, this is the basic Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet. No bells and whistles, but it does the job. Limitations include sound quality, volume quality, potential issues with MicroSDXC Card access, parental controls related limitations, and a basic app store. Updates worth noting in this version include a slight decrease in weight, increase in storage (internal and external), slightly faster processor, slightly improved cameras, and slight decrease in battery life (though this might be a more accurate representation of the life of the battery). The bottom line is that if you are looking to get a super affordable Kids tablet that is well-rated, small, lightweight, and has access to several education apps, games, etc. then the Fire 7 KE tablet is the way to go.- UPDATE # 1 and # 6: June 11, 2019 & June 21, 2019: Fire HD 8 Kids Edition + Echo Dot Kid Edition (release date June 26, 2019)I recommend the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition tablet (mid-tier model) as opposed to this Fire 7 KE (the model reviewed) for a few more dollars ($30 more). This can be purchased after following the cost-saving suggestions previously listed. My reasons are several and include: the 8 inch screen (as compared to 7 inches), higher resolution (189 PPI vs. 171 PPI), increased RAM (1.5 GB RAM vs. 1 GB RAM), battery life (10 hours vs. 7 hours), and the Dolby Atmos, dual stereo speakers (which can make a world of difference while watching or listening to something). I would personally get this tried and true model especially in light of Update # 3 (below).--- Amazon recently offered a bundle sale to purchase both the Fire Kids Edition Tablet and Echo Dot Kids Edition (colors can be chosen). Fire 7 KE + Echo Dot KE: $129.98; Fire 8 HD KE + Echo Dot KE: $139.98; and Fire 10 HD KE + Echo Dot KE:$199.98. I recommend the Fire 8 HD KE + Echo Dot KE for $139.98. One FreeTime Unlimited subscription can function across multiple devices and the best way to maximize it is in my opinion to get both these devices. I will soon post a comprehensive review on the Echo Dot Kids Edition once the device becomes available, but cannot cover it here because I have exceeded Amazon’s review space limitations.- UPDATE # 2 (June 12, 2019): FreeTime Unlimited--- The age-specific apps/books/games on this device are not always age appropriate. Consequently, parents need to review every thing prior to letting children get these resources. These apps play a critical role in the formation of the child especially with screen time usage increasing at astounding rates (especially among children).--- This brings me to my second point of concern – screen time. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 18 months have no screen time with the exception of video-chatting while children 2-5 years should have no more than 1-hour per day of screen time (only high-quality programs) with parents co-viewing these videos with the child (parental interaction is key for formation of language skills and holistic development. Just watching educational videos is insufficient – kids learn by back and forth interaction with adults). They have additional guidelines for children 6 and older, which includes monitoring the child’s media usage, providing strict guidelines for use of media, etc. I would strongly encourage parents to review this information prior to purchasing this media device.- UPDATE # 3: June 13, 2019: Battery LifeSome customers have complained about the low and unpredictable battery life for this new device. I did experience occasional fluctuations in battery life (nothing major) and so am docking down half a star. So, please bear this in mind when making the purchase.UPDATE # 4 & # 5: June 14, 2019 & June 19, 2019: Toys Story Headphone*Customers that preordered the item were supposed to get a free Toys Story headphone ($25 value). However, I never received it. I purchased this item in spite of the sound quality and low volume issues because of the free headphones. However, since I didn’t receive the headphones, I am docking down a star because the cost of getting a good-quality kid headphone ($24.99) added to the cost of the Fire 7 ($99.99) is equivalent ($124.98) to getting the better sound quality and volume Fire 8 KE ($129.99) with no headphones required and several other features. Amazon did contact me about this issue and asked how they could remedy the issue. They offered me $ 25 credit (headphone value) or a free headphone which I am grateful for.
