Comfortable Alternative to WASD, Great for MMO Play
I’ve used the Tartarus V2 a bit more recently, and I really like the movement on it. It’s the closest thing I’ve found to mimicking a thumbstick on PC without actually using a controller. The thumbstick is basically a D‑pad with a cap, but it works well enough for games where you have time to set things up.I was playing a no‑backup game with a buddy and didn’t have time to remap all my keys, so I swapped back to a controller. But when I do have time to set it up, it’s comfortable and way better than using WASD on a keyboard. With all the customization options, I think it’s especially good for players who spend time in WoW or other MMOs where programmable keys make a big difference.---Ver másVer menos

Works well, feels good, has a couple of (software based) niche issues.
The Tartarus v2 gamepad works quite well for what I want to do, although there are a couple of drawbacks within Razer's software that I wish weren't there. In general though, I am very happy with my purchase. To preface my next couple of statements, I use the gamepad for an enhanced video editing workflow as well as just helpful extra tasks when I'm not video editing.Any button can be mapped to do anything or a sequence of things, and within that, you can have different keymaps (up to 8) which are indicated by lights on the side, as well as different profiles (infinite, I think.)My first issue with these is that I would like to use one button to change my keymap and lighting effects on the keypad as to denote what set of macros/hotkeys I'm using. You can do this to a very basic extent by using the profiles, but you're limited to preset colors with no customization if you do. It's a small gripe, but I essentially have to hit 3 different buttons to be able to switch the keymap and colors individually every time I want to do that, and it's not that doing that is a big deal, just that it shouldn't be necessary.My second issue I've encountered (which is an actual issue this time and not just something that I don't like) is that the absolute mouse position in the macro recorder simply does not function correctly if you have two monitors even if all of your mouse movements stay on one monitor. I would program the mouse to move to a specific location and left click and it would go too high, too far to the left or right, etc. This is probably a rather simple fix on Razer's part but it's still quite frustrating for me that the entire feature is mostly useless.With these 2 issues said, I still give this gamepad 5 stars because for most people, those aren't huge issues, and they can also be fixed in the future depending on what Razer does with the software. The gamepad is comfortable, the buttons are very satisfying to press, the lighting is awesome, the extra scroll wheel is fantastic, and the product overall functions exactly as advertised. If the above 2 issues don't really affect you, I would definitely recommend this gamepad.Ver másVer menos

Great product, worth 4 stars but a few reasons I can't give it 5 stars.
Razer has provided a wonderful product for those who want more of a controller feel but the freedom of a keyboard and mouse. I have been using the Razer Tartarus V2 since December of 2024. The hand position and thumb joystick are comfortable and so much better than a flat keyboard, in my opinion. I will never go back to a flat keyboard after experiencing the freedom and comfort of the Razer Tartarus V2. Now, the reason I can't give this product 5 stars is that there have been software issues with the Razer Synapse config tool and the mappable joystick. It doesn't allow 8 directions in the tool, but you appear to have the 8-direction movement in-game with the d-pad mapping. The second reason I cannot give this product 5 stars is that they have not really updated the product since launch. There are no joystick options from Razer that let you change the type of joystick or add adapters for function and/or comfort. Razer would get 5 stars if they simply gave you options for the joystick. Other than those issues, it is a great product; just don't spill anything on it and enjoy.Ver másVer menos

Amazing Gameboard! Not that there are many options...
Like many older games who purchased this device, I used to have a Logitech G13 Gameboard that I miss dearly. I used the heck out of it since 2012, and ten years later it finally broke. Logitech not only discontinued it, but they didn't replace it as of this writing. Want to find a new one in box? I only have some minor gripes.Razer Chroma SoftwareThe Razer software that you have to install can be a little touchy. When I first installed it, it had some annoying notifications, but luckily these can be silenced. Since then I have had no more popups.The only issue now is one out of a hundred times, it just doesn't start up with my MSI Gaming laptop. So I am already in game and this Razer game board is glowing a billion colors...but the program didn't start up so the game board is in default mode. As you might imagine, this thing is meant to be customized...most will not want to use it with the default keys.Razer TartarusSo yeah, worth the money and works as advertised. It has withstood some bumps and bruises as is common in gaming, and is none the worse for the wear. The construction is really solid, and I appreciated that you can change the position of the palm pad for bigger hands (this is a MUST). My main issue here is that I kind of which the pad could be made for even bigger hands. I have normal man hands (I have difficulty playing with the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode...my hands are killing me after 15-20 mins) So, surely there are many gamers with bigger hands than I. I imagine those people would be a bit uncomfortable with this thing. Razer, are you listening?If you pick one of these up, you will not be disappointed. If you are coming from the Logitech G13, the Razer has fewer buttons, is physically smaller, and seems to be made for smaller hands. Good replacement for my worn out Razer Nostromo.
I've been using a Razer Nostromo for all my gaming for a LONNNNG time, like probably close to 10 years at least. It has finally started to really show some wear and tear, like the LEDs don't work anymore and the paint is wearing off of some of the keys. It has really served me well, so I have built up a lot of muscle memory from using it for so long. I was concerned about trying to learn a new keypad, but I have also been wishing I had more buttons for some of the games I have been playing recently. I tried a Logitech G-13 a couple years ago, and didn't like how it felt. The space bar button on the Logitech also stopped working after about 3 hours of gaming, so I sent it back. I decided to give this Razer Tartarus a try, because it looks very similar to the Nostromo, plus it has an extra row of keys above the standard WASD.I am happy to report that it was a very smooth transition to the Tartarus. I moved the handrest back to the farthest point, and it felt very similar to how my hand always rested on the Nostromo. I could definitely tell that I was using a new keypad, but it was close enough that after a couple hours of gaming I forgot I was using a new keypad. The membrane keys feel good, but they do have a soft "click" to them if that bothers you. Not as loud as a mechanical, but louder than the Nostromo. I don't really hear it while gaming beacuse I am wearing headphones. The top row is a nice addition to my setup. I can't quite reach some of the top row without moving my hand position, but I think that is pretty standard for any keyboard.The LED features are fine, but I don't typically do a lot with RGB other than set a static color. I finally could upgrade to Razer Synapse 3.0, because the Nostromo only worked with 2.0. It seems pretty functional and it wasn't too difficult to set up my keys how I like them. There are a lot of options for the lighting, but I don't really plan to use it much.Overall I have been really happy with the switch. I hope it can give me close to the same number of years of service as the original. If it dies prematurely I will update my review, but so far so good. If you're also looking for an upgrade from a worn out Nostromo, I would definitely recommend the Tartarus as a good option.Ver más

It's different, but I'm never going back!
this review is written after 6 months of use, roughly. here are my pros and cons, not in order at all :)(April 2025 update: just added a 4 years later update at the end. I love this thing.)this is super nice for what i needed it for (a smaller gaming space), and i love the membrane keys, but i have made a few modifications to this to make it (in my opinion) better. they are fairly easy.1: i added a riser for the space bar. its WAY to low to comfterbly use, same for the 4 way d pad. i dont really use the d pad anyways, so having the riser didnt get in the way. it just brings the button up to a managable, and comfterable height for me.2: i removed the devices that made the keys click. i ordered the membrane keys with this because i like both how they feel, respond, and sound (laptop user, so im used to them and like the quiet.) however, when this came all the buttons still made a very audible clicking noise. took me 5 seconds to take off the keycaps and realise there were literally some metal spring switches in each switch that were JUST there to make sound for the typical gamer who wants that 'click'. i ordered membrane keys, and they came with a fake click lol. promptly removed that, and now they are silent, have just the right amount of resistance before giving way, and just enough travel distance to be noticed. imo, they are really good membrane keys once you remove that metal insert in each key.few other things to add: i love this keyboard, having used it for around 6 months now. the immense amount of things you can rebind they keys to (pretty much any computer function you can think of, not just keyboard related things. you can rebind up to f24 if the normal function keys arent enough for you lol), and if you dont have enough keys to do the job, there is the option to set one of the keys to a razer hypershift key which doubles your available keys, in effect. in fact, the button above the d pad is just for that. very useful!and for those mentioning comfort, i have used this for 16 hours straight at one point and my hand was not sore at all. this was after making my ergonomics adjustments, so im imagining if i didnt have that riser on the spacebar, or used the d-pad, my thumb would have been sore. but the main 19 buttons on the keypad + the scroll wheel are in the perfect spots for me.Alright, April 2025 update: this thing is amazing and I'm never going back to a typical keyboard for gaming. Iveade a few more ergonomic changes in the years since, and put the metal clickers back in a few keys as they do give the keys a better break than standard membrane keys have, so better tactile feedback, but otherwise things are unchanged. Hardware, software, general user experience, learning curve are all great. Especially that last point: if your afraid of getting this as you don't want to have to relearn how to game with this, you don't. The default key map is the left half of your keyboard up to the cfr key row (vertically), which covers the majority of commonly used inputs for gaming except for grenade which is typically G. The key layout is just like a standard keyboard, with the main difference being on the thumb buttons. But having only one main difference, it's easy to focus on that and learn it in a few days. (or a single day if your a madlad.) Thinking of upgrading to the starters v2 pro myself, as this is my primary gaming input device (covering keyboards, controllers, and HOTAS here) and has been ever since I got it. Wrist pads worn out a bit now but other than that it's still going strong.
