Almost an ounce lighter than its predecessor and built with Nikon ED (extra-low dispersion) glass lenses, the new MONARCH 5 is a serious contender to be the "go-to" binocular for any outdoor enthusiast. The MONARCH 5 delivers sharp, high-contrast views that are the result of a state-of-the-art optical system. Featuring Nikon's premium ED Glass lenses and Dielectric High-Reflective Multilayer Prism Coatings, the MONARCH 5 displays exceptionally accurate color reproduction and a clear, natural looking image. Each of its Eco-Glass lenses are Fully Multicoated to provide maximum resolution and light transmission. The MONARCH 5 binocular comes in black finish and is available in 8x42, 10x42 and 12x42 magnifications. It utilizes Nikon's high-eye point design to provide a clear field-of-view and long eye-relief. The long eye-relief ensures a sufficient space between the user's face and the binoculars' eyecups to make them comfortable for everyone, even for those wearing eyeglasses. The turn-and-slide rubber eyecups make it easy to find the right eye positioning for extended periods of use. Nikon for the win
I own several binoculars that I have used thru out the years. I’ve owned this Nikon binoculars several years. I really love it. It has all the features that top binoculars have. Of course Nikon makes some of the best glass. I also have Leica and Swarovski glass. Is Nikon as good? No it isn’t. Yet if you never had a Leica binocular you won’t know what you are missing. When you compare a Nikon vs a Swarovski there is a difference. The clarity of the Swarovski is the best. It also has other technical differences that one would see if they knew about it. I use the Nikon for night viewing. I can see plenty of stars, star clusters, some galaxies, the moon, and planets. It’s also good for comets. When do I use the Leica, when I need the best optical quality. I can find a galaxy much faster with a Leica or Swarovski binocular. Of course they will still be little. Even with a telescope they only appear a bit larger. These are also great for concerts or sporting events if the venue allows them. Some venues will allow a smaller binocular then some have banned binoculars. Which is dumb as some phones have telephoto lens capabilities. Also a plus for glass wearers is the eye cups are highly adjustable as well as the diopter adjustment. The Nikon binoculars feel very well built.Ver másVer menos

Lens Cap Explanation (and overall review)
I'm a product designer, and as such, I like to inspect the quality of the things I buy and figure out why certain choices were made. It is my opinion that the eyepiece lens caps were made slightly large on purpose, not by mistake. The injection molding on them are too clean for it to be a mistake, and they're obviously too large for them to be designed with a snug fit. If you look in the instruction book, some of the first pictures in it show you how to attach the (included) neck strap and how to properly connect the lens caps to the strap. When using the binoculars as they're intended, that is wearing them around the neck, the lens caps stay in place quite well. When it comes time to use them, though, the lens cap easily lift off of the eyepieces and hand from the strap out of place. When you let the binoculars hang from your next afterwards, the caps fall over the eyepieces and protect them. Since they face upwards, having them protected helps ward off rain, debris, or sunlight shining directly into the lenses. If they were any more snug, they would not work in this way. Yes, it would be nice if they were a bit more snug, as it would make it easier to use them without the neck strap, but that's the way it is. I also wonder how much they'd wear into the rubber eyepieces if they had a more snug fit. Sometime down the line I may design up and 3D print some more snug lens caps and will post the files online, so keep an eye out for those.Well enough about that, now on to the binoculars themselves. In a word, they're spectacular. I'm used to some of the older and larger Porro prism binoculars or the smaller, cheap roof prism type. But regardless of style, I've never looked through a nicer pair of optics.Before buying these, whenever I was out somewhere in nature, I'd always wished I had some nice binoculars with me, and since I have a big trip coming up, I thought I'd spend the money on a nice pair, and these blew me away. The very close minimum viewing distance is nice, as it makes looking at birds and squirrels a lot of fun. The long distance adjustment works very well, too. Looking past the optics, I wanted a pair that would be small enough to carry with me and won't be a burden (like while camping), but something large enough to provide good magnification. These are pretty much just the right size, as they're easily packable, but still large enough to feel good in the hand and have just enough weight to easily hold them steady. The rubber coating has a nice feel, and I think it should be able to protect them well. The objective lenses are set back enough that I don't have to worry about them taking damage if it bumps up against something flat. The objective lens covers are very nice and snap on tight. The tripod mount threading is nice, as securing it to something with legs really helps with stability.I am looking forward to using these more thoroughly on our trip and will try to post back about how well they work.Ver másVer menos

This is a Nice Pair of Binoculars
I've been using a decent pair of $50 Bushnell's for years. Based on reviews, I decided to purchase these (8x42) hoping for better optics etc. Wow....these are worth every penny. The optics are top notch and very clear, even in low light. They are very comfortable on the eyes and light enough to hold for a long time. I use them mostly for bird watching. I've seen many comments about the caps. My front caps fit perfect and flip open very easily. The top caps, more or less, just sit on the lenses and are meant to be attached to the strap. They flip off very easy, and I believe that is how they are supposed to work. The instructions are very detailed on how to install the caps. But, all in all, I absolutely love these and may purchase the 10x42's in the future. Shipping from Kellard's was very quick and arrived well packaged. I was kept updated through shipping notices along the way, since it required a signature on delivery. Pick these up....you won't be disappointed.Ver másVer menos

Great Binoculars at a Very Reasonable Price
I join the others who have rated the Monarch 5 with 5 stars. I have a pair of 10X40 Monarchs that are 12 to 15 years old. They're great binoculars, but I always felt the 10 power and their weight was making them a little difficult to hold a steady image. After reading many reviews, here and elsewhere, I opted for the newer Monarch 5 8X42's. The 5's are lighter, brighter and smaller than my older Nike binoculars. Edge to edge clarity, close focus and even depth of field is really amazing. The light weight and rubberized coating of the Monarchs make them extremely comfortable to use. The lens cap deal is really a non issue, they were designed that way as others have pointed out. I enthusiastically recommend them!Ver másVer menos

Not bad Chinese 'nocs for the money
I got these for general gazing and bird watching in deep shady areas from 30 to 60 feet away and so far I'm impressed with the brightness and clarity these bring to the price point. Even when wearing eyeglasses, the long eye relief means I always see a sharp, bright, solid circle. While not the smallest and lightest 8x's around, they still feel good, steady and compact in the hands. Focus and interpupillary distance adjustment are smooth as silk and the eyecup adjustments seem to stay in place even after long periods of use. The lens covers are great as they "plug in" the barrels, but the one-piece eyepiece cover is nearly worthless as it simply sits atop the eyepieces and falls off with the slightest touch. The soft carry case might protect against scratches but won't protect much against hard knocks. Overall, I'm guessing that performance-wise these 'nocs will hold their own against others costing much more.Ver másVer menos

Don't Hesitate!!
These binoculars are phenomenal!!! Bought these for a trip out west. Looked at another highly recommended pair, that were non ED glass. These were about $100 more. My husband really liked the fact they were Nikon and hopeful they will perform for him in low light situations and hunting. I'm sure they will after using them at dusk on our trip. They are very lightweight and have a rubber, non-slip feeling. They are easy to grab and use at a moments notice which is fantastic for my achy, arthritic hands. I wear progressive lense glasses and these binoculars are perfect with them. I have no issues, no uncomfortableness with my glasses pushing, nothing! The clarity with these binoculars is amazing!! Everytime I pick them up, I wish there was a button to click a picture of what I am seeing through them! I thought originally the other pair would suffice, but with the weight and grip and clarity, I couldn't be more happy!! P.S. I'm at hotel in South Dakota and as I was writing this review, my husband pointed out 2 whitetail bucks from our balcony, an 8 and 6 point...at 6:30pm on a fall night, these binoculars had no problem!!! Great binoculars that don't break the bank
After I decided that I wanted to have some nicer binoculars than the cheap $20 pair I had since I was a kid I started looking around for something that would be nice, but not so nice that I'm paying thousands for them. I checked these and several other brands out, and found that these were the best for their price point. I'm not a binocular connoisseur, but to me these look awesome, and didn't break the bank. I've been using them now for about 6 months and I still love looking through them. I never have a hard time focusing them perfectly, and I like the eye piece distance adjustments. That brings me to the lens caps. The caps for the end you look into is worthless, it's like someone gave their kid the job of designing that cap, it's a plastic piece that sits on top and falls off. The lens caps for the larger ends are great, they're like rubber stoppers that you put into the end and they stay put. They're also attached to the end of the binoculars with a rubber strap, which is nice. That said, I keep them in the case they came in, so the lousy eye piece lens cap isn't a huge issue for me.Ver másVer menos

Great binocs.
I always thought expense binoculars ( those over $100) were frivolous — boy, was I wrong! These binocs instantly proved to be fantastically better than any pairs I ever held. Terrific clarity, great brightness pretty wide field, near perfect edge to edge sharpness and flatness of field. I love these binocs for my new birding hobby!!! Never using the the next step up models - afraid to - due to the huge jump in price. A negative thing- the eyepiece and lens covers are almost a joke. Hard to understand how a company makes such a great pair of binocs and outfits them with poorly fitted lens covers.Ver másVer menos

Very Clear and Bright
I did a lot of research before my purchase, and these were one of my top picks. When the right price appeared on Amazon, I jumped at the purchase. Significantly better than my 20 year old Japanese made 8x28mm binoculars that I paid more for in the late 1990s. Technology does keep trickling down to lower priced items. The only minor criticism would be slight loss in clarity at the very edge of the field of view. This is not troublesome at all, and is to be expected at this price range. The Monarch 7 is better in this regard, but quite a bit more money.I would highly recommend this binocular if you find a good price. It's main competitor would be the Vortex Diamondback HD.Ver másVer menos

Outstanding binoculars at a very reasonable price.
These are superb binoculars,A friend compared them with her much more expensive pair and wanted to swap!They are clear, sharp, comfortable and focus down to about eight feet. The diopter adjustmentstays firmly in place once adjusted. The focus ring is smooth and easy to use.Ver másVer menos

Nice binoculars, crappy lens cap.
Nice feel, clear optics. Kind of what you'd expect from Nikon. However, the reason I gave it four stars instead of five, is because the lens cap for the rear lens does not fit. It is so sloppy that when you tip the binoculars in any direction the lens cap simply falls off. I thought perhaps it was a packaging error so I sent them back and ordered another set. But the new set was exactly the same. There's at least 1/8 inch Gap all the way around between the cap and the lens. This is a serious flaw, for which I have contacted Nikon and will update this post if and when I hear back from Nikon.Status update: I contacted Nikon and they say this is the only lens cap that is available and that it will stay on while the binoculars are folded in for storage. Not a very satisfactory answer, so I've reduced my rating to 4 stars from 5. I am now on the search for either some other product's lens caps or a way to modify these. When you have them around your neck going through brush and tall grasses, you don't want the lens cover to fall off. A snug fit would be much better.Ver másVer menos

Enfin des jumelles qui rendent une image claire et précise. Excellent pour débuter en ornithologie et même jusqu'au niveau intermédiaire. Légère, ergonomique, étanche, semble assez robuste. Très satisfaite.
