Crosman M417 bb/pellet pneumatic pump rifle Great price, I have seen many airsoft versions of this rifle for more money, and this one is much more accurate than any airsoft is gonna be!With all the weaver rails you can add many accessories.. Some people think the front two weaver rails are un-usable because of having to pump the foregrip.Just get youself an offset mount for a taclight to mount to the underside of the front sight, and to mount a vertical foregrip to the bottom of the pump's weaver rail, just put a quick release on it so you can take it on and off quckly and easily to pump up the air. OR a better option is to buy a vertical foregrip that is like one of those 5 position foregrips that you can swing down/collapse such that it sits flat up against the foregrip.. then you can pump it without it getting in the way... but you will have to push the button on the vertical foregrip and move it to position one each time you wish to pump.... then move it back to position three to use as a normal foregrip, or to put it back into the "vertical" position.Overall a very good gun, especially for the price.. My only complaints is there are two places made of plastic that should have been made of metal. The point where the buttstock attaches to the receiever is very very weak and you must be careful or you may break off the rear buttstock mount completely.Also, the screw that holds the front plastic piece in place at the pivot point of the pump should be metal, mine has already cracked and I have tried everything to get it back together, superglue, cement, etc..But it just keep on cracking back in the same place, making the gun terrible for accuracy at long ranges, because the barrel moves slightly out of alignment with each pump.Just be careful with both of these places and the gun will last a long time and you can make it look very cool with all the weaver rail options available on the gun. It looks very cool and feels great in the hand. Perfect for training for the real thing... it is made from the mold of a real AR15 and every detail is exact and looks perfect. Just be easy with the plastic buttstock mount and the plastic pivot point of the pump, and this gun will give you many years of fun and nice accurate shooting. A Fantastic Target Shooter - but understand its limitations

Critics of this gun point out that it's plastic and has several weak points - and I can't dispute that. It can and has for some people broken at the extendable stock, at the plastic Picatinny/Weaver rails, or at the cocking lever. So, just treat it gently.Reputedly, this is an upgrade to the venerable Crosman 760, and to some extent it is, but I first got a Crosman 760 PowerMaster four decades ago, and it had a walnut stock with all steel construction. You could definitely abuse it, but you can't do that to this gun. So, don't expect to. I'm sure Crosman could build it that way, but then it would be much heavier and cost twice as much.Assorted comments:- Noise: This gun is the quietest one I own with a sound about the same as snapping your fingers. Since I like to fire mine in the middle of the night, that's great since I won't annoy the neighbors.- Weight: Some consider this to be a flaw, but I love the fact that it's light in weight. My Crosman Vantage and Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk are heavy air guns, and that makes them harder to control.- The Picatinny/Weaver mount on the cocking lever is useless - just cosmetic, and the mounts on the barrel are limited in usefulness. However, I did mount an NcStar red dot laser sight on the top mount and a UTG tactical bipod on the lower one. The laser sight is a bit pointless since I really just use the scope, but it's below the level of the scope, and it takes a bit of finesse to cock the gun with the bipod attached, but it's not much of a problem.- The trigger pull/action is outstanding. It's very smooth - better for accuracy than the stock triggers on any of my other guns. [The triggers on my Vantage and Nitro Venom will be replaced by GRT-III triggers from Charlie Da Tuna.]- Attachments: I put on a Center Point 4X32 scope (which I took off of my Vantage), a $15 NcStar red dot laser sight on the rail above the barrel, and a UTG tactical bipod (which I also took off of my Vantage since the "artillery hold" works better). A compact 4X30 scope from NcStar is only $19, it's well-reviewed, and I'd recommend getting one. I did not install or try out the "iron sights" since I have "old eyes", but they might work fine for you.- Extra magazines: I bought four extra magazines, and after cutting the "fingers" off of the foam in the fake/hollow magazine, all five of them fit in there just perfectly.- Cocking the gun: Because of the reputed fragility of the extendable/adjustable stock, I place the index finger of my left hand on the "T" that is right behind my scope with my thumb approximately next to the BB fill hole. It's a comfortable position and places no strain on the weaker part of the gun. Because of the bipod, I rotate my right hand downward as I pump it. It's mildly inconvenient but not a big deal.- Following a tip from another reviewer, I put a few self-stick felt pads (the kind used for cabinet doors) on the "U" of the cocking lever, and it quiets down the "slap" of the lever against the barrel.- Accuracy: Here is where this gun absolutely shines (and where I was quite pleasantly suprised!). On my "short range" of 25 feet (with a scope, a bipod, and five pumps), I can often place five [Crosman Field Hunting] pellets into a single hole 1/4" in diameter - and I'm not even all that good! I have other guns for power or semi-auto can plinking, but this is a great target shooter. The gun is more accurate than I am.Don't expect this gun to be something it's not or more than it is, but if you want a cool-looking, very accurate target shooter that is quiet and cheap to fire, I highly recommend it.-TJ

Highly Accurate

The Crosman M4-177 assault-rifle lookalike (inasmuch as an all-plastic air rifle covered with non-functional switches and levers molded into its body can imitate a powerful, semi and fully-automatic firearm made almost entirely of metal) shoots pretty danged sweet, once the shooter gets the hang of using it. Usually, this is just about my one and only personal gauge of the true worth of an air rifle. After all, if you can't hit the point at which you're aiming, the thing is worthless (in my book, at least). Well, that isn't a problem, as the M4-177 turned out to be very nicely accurate, but at a price: simply shooting it takes a considerable amount of effort, at least, compared to any other .177 caliber variable pumper with which I've had any experience. Firstly, you /have/ to use the 5-round clip to shoot pellets, with the one and only clip that ships with the air rifle. Although I read lots of user reviews and professional evaluations before deciding to make a purchase, and after that, even my first pass through the manual, somehow, I still missed the fact that you absolutely cannot shoot this airgun like one does with any and every other .177 caliber variable pumper ever; there is NO way to manually load and shoot this air rifle one pellet at a time (again, as it's done with every other .177 caliber variable . . . etcetera). Interesting. It wasn't until my second time through the manual, with the air rifle in my hands preparatory to shooting it for the first time, that this truly sank in. I somewhat doubtfully suppose some exceptionally dexterous individual might be able to hold a pellet at precisely 90 degrees to the axis of the air rifle, and by using a tweezer or something like it, reach in and insert said pellet through the small side opening otherwise closed in on all sides by plastic and still manage to get it inserted into the barrel, then close the bolt, take aim, click it off safe and shoot, but that would be even more time-consuming than using it as designed. Fine. The clip it is.Okay, now I'm finally ready to shoot. The next thing I figured out was the fact that a 5-pellet clip isn't advanced automatically as you shoot. Instead, you have to pull back the bolt, put the rifle on safe (if shooting safely), reach out and use your hand to push the clip over to the first or next chamber containing a pellet, close the bolt, etc., and then you're ready to shoot: this shot and four more, as long as the clip was full when you started. After the fifth shot, you again pull-push the clip out, refill it with five pellets (certain pellets only, wadcutters recommended), put it back in, make sure it's pushed over to the first pellet chamber, then repeat the procedure as outlined earlier. After the fifth shot, once again you pull it out, refill it, pull the bolt back, put it back in. . . and repeat, and repeat, and repeat ad infinitum with every fifth shot for as long as you can stand to do it, or as long as you planned to shoot, whichever comes first. Since the air rifle ships with only the single clip. I hate to say it, but it wasn't really very long at all before I realized I wasn't having much fun shooting my new air rifle. Never before have I wanted so badly to be able to shoot, reach out with my hand, pick up and drop in another pellet, close the clip, take aim, shoot, etc. You know, kinda just like I do with every other variable pump pneumatic .177 caliber pellet rifle available today? Nope. Ain't gonna happen. So... the lesson I take from this is to make sure to acquire more clips before you buy the M4-177. It's just as tedious to use the clip and change it out every five shots for one freshly loaded as it is when you only have one, but with a little bit of effort beforehand, at least you don't HAVE to refill the clip every five shots! To me, using this old and out-of-date technology designed originally for use with one of Crosman's cheapest and oldest smoothbore variable pumpers adds considerably more time to a shooting session than would be necessary if I were just doing it by hand the old-fashioned (and easy) way.Okay, I've taken a shot and now I need to adjust the sights for accuracy. Looks like I'll need quite a bit of elevation and a smidge of right windage. I grab the plastic tool you're supposed to use as a screwdriver slash hex key driver and try it on the front sight. Hey! It works great, but the windage screw on the rear sight of my new air rifle is pretty snugly set, so my first attempt to use the screwdriver end of the tool to turn it results in the soft plastic out of which the blade is made ripping, rendering that end of the tool absolutely useless from then on. Luckily, I had my handy-dandy Victorinox Officier Suisse pocketknife with phillips and straight-edge screwdrivers in my pocket, which took care of the windage adjustment easily and quickly, but whoa, that tool designed for the job was ruined the first time I tried to use it! Had it been made of cheap metal, or even a rigid resin, no problem, but it's made of the same cheap plastic as everything else on the air rifle and it failed as soon as it encountered a little real resistance, which happened to be the first time it was used, so that was a bit off-putting as well, but then maybe I'm just being too particular about these things. No big deal really, since I carry a tool that can do the job when necessary, but jeezo-flip man, the dedicated gizmo shipping with the rifle should be able to do the job, first time and every time, to my way of thinking. At least the other end still works, so I keep the tool inside the fake removable rifle magazine, in the round hole designed for it (beside the empty spaces for two more clips, which do NOT ship with the air rifle (besides, even three would be too few for target shooting).Okay, enough complaining. Yes, it takes a lot of time to fill a large number of clips (once I finally found a source for any that weren't almost nine bucks each (!!!), I bought sixteen on ebay for about $3.00 per clip) and then manually inserting and advancing a pre-filled clip for every one of the five shots it makes possible, before removing the empty and replacing it with another that's been pre-filled. When finally I was able to really shoot my air rifle and get it sighted in (it took very few shots), I can say with great delight and positivity that it was extremely accurate! Yes! The aperture sights (one for the up-close and personal shooting and another you can flip up for general-use) work very well, and once I had my M4-177 sighted in, it shot every bit as well or better than any other air rifle I own, of any type and in any caliber! Seriously, the pumping is just as easy as most of my other .177 caliber variable pumpers, so discovering how accurate I could be with it pretty much makes up ("pretty much" being the operative words here) for the shortcomings I've found (and I'm too tired to keep typing, or I could add a few more), so, if I go strictly by my self-imposed judging criterion that an air rifle that shoots accurately is an air rifle one should keep (and I have, pretty much), this is a keeper. It does shoot VERY nicely, which does ensure I pretty much have more fun than hassle when I'm shooting it, so I've added it to my collection and actually have become quite adept at its use. Filling sixteen (one was damaged) clips before or after every shooting session remains a major drag when I decide to shoot with this, unfortunately, but that's the cost of entry for this airgun. I have to admit to liking it more than I don't like it, at least, pretty much. :-)Actually, I like my newest air rifle now much more than I did initially. It is a lot of fun, but nearly every time I use it for awhile, I still tend to walk away with somewhat mixed feelings. It shoots great. That's a lot, since not a lot of other low-cost air rifles do, or even can, shoot well and few as well as does this one. Still, being a plastic look-alike of an M4/AR clone, with only a five-pellet clip that has to be advanced by hand for every shot, capable of shooting short range only because it's a smallest caliber, air-powered variable pumper? The idea of the package as a whole just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, unless maybe it's designed specifically to awaken major materialistic gotta-have-it feelings in almost every red-blooded American kid out there. I think it takes a little too much effort, even with the great accuracy, to do a lot with the air rifle, when the best it can do is low-powered, short-range shooting anyway, although I suppose gun-crazy American kids might really enjoy delivering genuine lead down-range, on-target, with what looks a lot like a real assault rifle, down even to the same type of open sights, and a rail on which shooters can add the same excellent optics, for as little as twenty bucks to beyond affordability, as those designed for the real weapon. I've decided to keep it because (one): I love it for indoor target shooting, since it's exceptionally accurate, and (two): my wife thinks it looking like the real thing is pretty dope, so what the heck? For me, it's a keeper.Also, I suppose (keeping a VERY open mind) that if you're an adult with a real M4 or cheap assault-rifle clone, MAYBE it could be argued that this super lightweight and non-functional, all-plastic air rifle that shoots super-cheap .177 caliber pellets will keep you in practice with your real firearm, but that's something of a stretch for me, and I would much rather be able to load this by hand one shot at a time than be forced to use the clips with far too few rounds, but hey -- it really does shoot very well. I've always claimed that this was the one true gauge of the worth of any airgun, and yes, this airgun shoots accurately indeed, so I've decided to keep it. It does add more time to my shooting when I decide to choose it over another from my collection (already an issue with all variable shooters), but what the heck? I mean, it was a super-thoughtful gift from someone I love, it's a well-done model of the real thing and I do love the excellent accuracy, so to me, it's pretty darned sweet. Recommended (pretty much). :-)

Crosman M417 Pellet / BB Rifle - a very nice pump-style pellet gun

Grew up a service brat with Dad being a Range Safety Officer, and had a Sheridan Blue Streak in the late 60s through mid-70s. That thing could shoot the tip off a match at 25 feet (just wish my eyes were good enough to still do it)! No idea where that Blue Streak is anymore, and new Blue Streak models run a bit more than we wanted to pay for an air rifle.After a bit of online research, we purchased this Crosman M417... and three months in, can say that we are happy with the purchase.This model is made of plastic but does have a rifled steel barrel, which was one of the reasons we choose it. We installed the sights and within a couple minutes of opening the box, we were on our way to the mini-range we have set up in the hills of the lower portion of our property.If you would like to see pictures I took of this pellet gun, please navigate to the gun's main sales page, scroll down to where the "Most Helpful Customer Reviews" section starts, and look to the right of that area for the "Product Images From Customers" section. Very realistic, especially from afar, so please remember that when handling it within view of others (else you may get an eventful visit from your local Sheriff).Our son is about 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs in around 100 pounds, and he was able to handle the pump action without too much difficulty. The first couple times he was surprised by the tension once getting to the 4th or 5th pump, but quickly learned to use both arms when pumping (in a manner somewhat like using tree pruning shears). Throughout the first day he seemed to settle on 7 pumps as his favorite as it gave him great speed and accuracy without the excess toil that pumps, 8, 9 and 10 require!Since he has experience with real iron A2 style sights, which is what the sights on this Crosman pellet gun are modeled after, our son really had no sighting learning curve to deal with. His target for the first hour of the day was a Birchwood Casey Gallery metal resetting target (Birchwood Casey Gallery .22 Rimfire Resetting Target) and his first three shots from about 30 feet hit the top target dead in line with its bullseye, just one inch low. A few sight adjustments later, and the shots were ringing true from various distances and shooting positions (prone, standing, kneeling and sitting). The pellets he uses are the pointed Crosman Field Hunting .177 cal 7.4gr pellets (Crosman Field Hunting .177 Cal, 7.4 Grains, Pointed, 1250ct).The sights are not bad for what this is, a mostly-plastic military replica air rifle. At this level of gear there are so many variables in pellet ballistics and air pressure that judgement can't be made in comparison to your ACOG... it is what it is, and that ain't bad for the price range.Gotta tell you one other thing tho.... when my son decided to take a break and handed this rifle to me to fire, I instinctively looked down to inspect the open bolt and pushed the mag eject button to check the rounds... Doh! Fake button. Pellet gun replica. Old habits die hard, and this is a decent replica. Yes, he laughed at me too!Anytime you are considering purchasing a working plastic-based replica, remember that it needs to be handled with a tad more care that your average S&W, Colt, or Bushmaster. If looking for a fun pellet gun that will work as advertised and will not break the bank while doing so, we recommend this one.Go for it!

The Crossman 760 is a better gun, but this looks great anyhow.

Cool design, shoots OK, good price point. BUT, you get what you pay for. Lots of plastic bits that are not very well made. The unit came with a small broken part on the butt - I am not super picky so I did not return it. It's just not built that well. It's fun to shoot and scary to look at (grin), and it does what it is supposed to. I was just disappointed by how cheaply it felt. It is not nearly as hardy feeling as my Crossman 760. I bought this because of it's looks and for that it is great - just not going to be my woods gun, it will be mostly show and not so much go.Ver más

Thought this would be a hokey gimmick, I was mistaken. I have whatever the opposite of buyer's remorse is.

I am pretty OG when it comes to air rifles. When I buy one and it works well, I take care of it and keep it for years. I raise koi, and varmints and herons can clean a pond or water garden out in no time if unhindered. I have had a heron eat over 2k worth of koi in a single visit. So now I use an air rifle to help dissuade them. I dont kill anything with it normally, save for snakes, but a BB popping against the base of a heron's neck or a raccoon's flank will have them thinking twice about invading my water gardens.Anywho, I have been using the same pump air rifle since 1993, so I figured it might be time for an upgrade. I started looking around and stumbled across this guy, and my first reaction was a stifled giggle. I figured this was something for gun-nut nerds or kids who wanted to play army man or maybe even for some sort of simulated training with an AR.But after reading the specs and reviews of this thing, its power was pretty comparable to other higher end air rifles and it had a decent price, so I thought I would give it a go. I could not be more impressed. It's a solid, well made piece, and the extend-able stock, removable "mag", and rail sights are fantastic. I can keep the pellet mag and the site adjustment tool in the mag for quick access, and the accuracy of this thing is insane. I used the little guide it came with and the sight adjustment tool to adjust my rail sights when it arrived, and within 15 minutes I had a 2" grouping at 40 yards, and I dont shoot that well.Given, that kind of accuracy is nothing for a normal rifle, but this was a BB gun shooting BBs, perfect spheres that are much more subject to gravity, wind, and air and thermal conditions than a typical rifle bullet. I was and continue to be extremely impressed.My buddy has an AR-15 and he saw this leaning up against the wall one day and asked me when I got an AR. He didnt believe it was a BB gun until he picked it up. He thought it was great. And it uses the same rail system as the real deal, so you can add any accessories you want to it (laser sight, flashlight, action scope, homemade bayonet, etc) And it looks so much like the real deal that if you took a stroll out to the mailbox with this guy the next time that wiseass kid with the dirtbike or that hippie weirdo with the skateboard decide to turn a donut in your front yard or grind the curb and tear up your wife's flower bed that she worked on all spring, their wide-eyed reaction and rapid exodus may really brighten your day, particularly when the hippie kid looks like he's toting a newly birthed pantload in the seat of his jean shorts while making his retreat.And if the neighbors give you a hard time about it, just tell them it's an air rifle, which is not illegal to fire on the confines of your own property even in city limits (at least around here) and to leave me the hell alone, Marie. Maybe if you let your kid learn about gun safety and play with something like this he would grow a pair and stop wearing pastel colored pants.Anyway, this thing is great. I probably buy a dozen things from Amazon every month and have so for the past few years, and this is by far the greatest Amazon purchase I have ever made. I am gonna buy another one just in case something happens to my primary or they stop selling them.
