Perfect prenatal - Much research done
My wife, Filipina, first time pregnant, my first as well. I dug into the internet for prenatal vitamins, and comparisons. Independent Research results, and made phone calls. I bought 4 different brands. 2 failed on the quality side of things. Which ruined it for me, regardless of the research and reviews. If the brand can't bring quality to the front door what good is everything else? 3rd option came with horrid taste. 4th is this one. Though the smell is not all great, it was the 2nd best option, 1st in reviews, and very very close to second in the independent research results. I was pleased to say the least. My wife wasn't keen on the taste, took them once a night. Doctor results and all are going awesome. The first week or so there were signs of side effects, but that didn't last more than a week or so. The benefits out weigh the beginning issues. We are half way on the second bottle. Nothing is not worth researching before subjecting your unborn to the chemicals of the worlds food and nutrient supplies. I even had a back up in place just in case.My only issue is the DHA. I don't care the fact she has to take these 3x a day. But come on man... Where is the DHA. Don't believe some of the answers in the "Questions" portion of this product regarding DHA. There is no docosahexaenoic in this bottle at all.We still use these and intend on finishing them. Due in 10 weeks, and taking another product for the DHA and Alaskan wild fish oil combination.Try it! To each their own...Ver másVer menos

2 Miscarriages In The Last Year & Midwife Recommended This
I have a 4 year old and a 18 month old. I recently had 2 miscarriages in the last year and talked to my midwife about it. So we discussed what to do when I got pregnant again and she recommended Folate and Baby Aspirin. She also told me as soon as I found out I was pregnant from the pee stick, to get my progesterone checked out immediately. I purchased Folate 800, Bayer Aspirin in Low dosage, New Chapter Prenatals (which has additional folate) and Nordic Naturals for my DHA.I got my progesterone tested and found out today that it was extremely good according to my midwife, and hopefully it'll be checked again to make sure everything is still great.Folate and Folic Acid are two different things apparently. Folic Acid is basically fake and causes cancer. And folate is the real deal that helps the development of baby. Also the baby aspirin helps prevent any blood clots....it's a blood thinner and the low dosage doesn't hurt baby.I haven't took a genetic test so I don't know what the exact problem is. But just taking the vitamins listed above as a new starting point.I should have read it more carefully when it said take 3 vitamins a day..I would of saved more money by getting the full pregnancy pack.So far everything is going great, pills are easy to swallow and I would highly recommend for any pregnant mama, epically one with complications like me.Ver másVer menos

Better than taking 6 pills a day!
I just switched from Rainbow Light prenatals to New Chapter Prenatal. Three main reasons for the switch: 1. In my personal opinion, too much lead in the Rainbow Light prenatals (you can find the report online by searching it), 2. Rainbow Light pills are huge and very difficult to swallow, even though I took them for over a year while pregnant I was still having a hard time swallowing those pills, and 3. serving size is 6 pills a day (yes, 6 huge pills a day). Other than these three reasons, nothing wrong with rainbow Light prenatals, they never made me sick and my baby was born very healthy. Now going back to New Chapter Prenatals, which I started taking while nursing my baby: great multivitamins, they don't make me sick or nauseated, the pills don't have a smell at all, and they're much smaller and easier to swallow and the serving size is only 3 a day, so you can take one with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, the lead levels are lower in these prenatals. Another plus: no artificial anything, have you seen how many artificial dyes are used in the "cheap" prenatals? If you do some research you'll learn that artificial dyes can cause problems to the fetus. No prenatal/multivitamin is perfect and you shouldn't expect it to supply you with all your vitamins/minerals needs. That's why they are called "supplements", they are suppose to "supplement" your diet and not substitute it. Your primary concern, especially if you're pregnant should be with what you eat. Even though I try to eat healthy (no fast food and minimal processed food), I still take additional supplements to my prenatal such as calcium, vitamin d3, vitamin c... So far I'm happy with New Chapter Prenatal, and I even signed up for the subscribe and save program, so I can save about $10 a bottle by buying it through Amazon compared to my local health food store.Ver másVer menos

Absolutely AWESOME!!!
After countless hours online researching the best prenatal vitamins and what all should be in them, I kept coming back to New Chapter's Perfect Prenatal.There were specific things I wanted out of my prenatal, particularly b/c I'm a vegetarian and a firm believer that one can get all the health and nutrients from a healthy diet if they really want to. However, pregnancy is a big exception area... we need the extra nutrients to provide to the growing fetus. I was looking for a prenatal that:- was not a pill; or at least not a large pill (I am HORRIBLE at swallowing pills)- organic- vegetarian/vegan- provided all the nutrients and vitamins essential to a healthy pregnancy without making me nausiousI actually tried the new Vitalah Oxylent Prenatal first... I really really wanted to like it. The whole philosophy about absorbing the nutrient better because they weren't in pill form I agreed with; however, they were not organic or vegan (both are important to me). It just didn't work out..... For some reason it upset my stomach, like really strong cramping in my abdominal area. Then I tried a prescription prenatal (Citranatal Harmony) which was was pretty good; however it was going to cost me quite a bit each month. I came back and did more research on the New Chapter and decided it was the one for me!I have not been taking it for nearly a month and cannot find any one thing wrong with it!!! The smell is easy to get over - especially because I know it's from whole foods - totally worth it. But it's really not that bad...Wonderful product that I will continue to use through all my pregnancies (When I even get pregnant! Praying for some baby dust my way soon!) I will surely recommend to anyone I know as well.FYI - I am taking it with the Spectrum Vegetarian DHA.Ver másVer menos

No upset stomach with these, real Folate, and organic...makes a difference.
These are great. I enjoy the fact that I can take them on an empty stomach in the morning (as I'm rushing out the door for work) and not have to worry about feeling nauseous later on. I typically take two in the morning and am sure to take another when I get in from work and am eating dinner. Also, with 600mg of actual folate (instead of synthetic folic acid), my mind is put at ease knowing that I'm not giving my baby something synthetic to draw nourishment from during these first few weeks in his/her's development. Knock on wood, I haven't had any morning sickness or vomiting and I'm just over 6 weeks pregnant. My friends believe I'm plain lucky now, but it's sure to come. They could be right, but I think it has something to do with the fact that these prenatal vitamins are Organic and not over-processed. There's something to be said for not bombarding your system with lots of man-made (or synthetic) elements when there's so much change going on already. Some prenatal vitamins make women ill, I don't think these are that type. But then again, this is all I've ever taken. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that morning sickness is very minimal if/when it does show up in the next few weeks.Ver másVer menos

I appreciate the multi-dose of those vitamin (3 tablets/day) due to the nature of absorption and digeation in general (you never really know when or how well your body absorbs the nutrients you ingest, so by splitting up the dose I feel you give yourself a better shot at absorbing as many nutrients as possible). I wish there were slightly more calcium in them, but I eat a lot of broccoli and other dark leafy greens to add more calcium in my diet. I will say that I have not had to take an additional iron supplement with these like I did with my first pregnancy and a different vitamin. I have a history of fairly intense anemia (to the point of fainting and pica!!) and am always concerned about a recurrence. There have been a few times this pregnancy where I've craved molasses and beef has tasted reeeeeeeeally good (not usually a fan of beef), but I had also been forgetting at least part of the vitamin dose for a few days at the tail end of my second trimester. As soon as I resumed the full dose it fixed itself.To the reviewer who had a baby with trisomy 18 and appears to be blaming the vitamins for not preventing this: my son had trisomy 13 and I was 29 when I conceived him. Neither my husband nor I have any chromosomal abnormalities. Sometimes this stuff just happens, and NO vitamin or supplement out there is going to tell you that they can totally prevent chromosomal or birth defects in general (or at least they shouldn't, and if they do, stay far away). I wasn't taking these with my son; I was taking a store brand that also had ginger and herbs, and was dye free. I took that same brand with my daughter (first pregnancy), who was born totally healthy in every way, though I had to take an additional iron supplement. Vitamins and supplements are not going to guarantee you a perfectly healthy baby or egg, they're just meant to help ensure your pregnancy isn't leaching your body of the nutrients you need, and that your baby is hopefully still getting what s/he needs to grow in a healthy way.All in all, I appreciate that this vitamin is made with real food, the dose is split (because it's hard to cram real food in one swallow-able pill...) which helps give you the best shot at absorption. I don't really appreciate the price, but real stuff is usually more expensive than fake stuff, so there ya go. Is it a great vitamin for those who suffer from intense nausea/hyperemesis? Pretty sure i still threw it up in the first trimester, but I threw up pretty much everything (including water!!), but I bought these for the other reasons I just stated, not for their supposed ease on an empty stomach.
