Very well done.
This story was heart wrenching. An epic journey times two for two boys in two eras. Jim didn’t say much in his later years yet he needed to tell the story and his grandson learned who this silent man was, his history, the history of cattlemen, about direction of one’s life, right and wrong, survival, and so much more as they ride the trail together for a short while. Lessons were learned, hard lessons, that hopefully moved lives in the right directions. A really great western tale that should be a movie.Ver másVer menos

Really good read
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Even though at times it moved slowly, necessary to pull all the strings together and keep a mistery and suspense going. It is well written and very carefully edited. Interesting history on Montana cattle ranging and at being a cowboy in the 1886-87. Definitely worth reading if you are interested in the life and history of cattle ranging and cowboy.Ver másVer menos

Johnny Boggs at his very best
A wonderfully written story of another time and men to ride the river with. The best from a terrific writer.

A Surprise
Just when you think this is going to be a calm, quiet story, off it goes and you can’t put it down. Mr. Boggs builds his story to a crescendo and drags the reader along like you’re tied to every word. You’ll find it hard to put this down until the very end.

Hard Winter, 1886 - 1887
A long, rambling story that takes place in Montana (mostly). It begins with three young friends who want to be cowboys. Then life happens....and winter. I got cold reading about it.

Fine Western Fare
This is a very stirring rendition of how a truly global event impacted one part of our nation and the livelihoods of struggling farmers and ranchers most of whom were barely doing out an existence to begin with. North America was the hardest hit and some have speculated that it all may have been tied somehow to the Krakatoa eruption of 1883 which ejected such massive amounts of debris into the atmosphere that the weather patterns were disrupted, but this is unproven and speculative.Ver másVer menos
