When I first read the plot I read it super fast because I was so excited that a new book was out and that it had Percy in it. I mean it's Percy. Anyways after I read it the first time I had to stop and go "wait....what is it about?" So I had to reread it again but very slowly. I also tired to think of what maybe Rick was thinking about with each of the three things for the three main characters for this book.For Percy's all I had to do was read the first line and I started to think "oh no! Rick Riordan what did the gods do to Percy know!" As I read further along in the little paragraph I just kept on thinking which god did this to Percy and Annabeth. Then I saw the last sentence and immediately I thought "What! Did Athena and Aphrodite team up on Percy and Annabeth?" I was so unhappy as I thought about that since Percy and Annabeth have been through so much together. For Hazel's I started to think after reading the first sentence "What is she a zombie that Ares brought back for the 'other' camp?" I then saw the next part about her mom being possessed by greed and I started to think didn't one of Hades's forms had a power to do something with jewels being brought up from the ground. But I also wasn't exactly sure if that was right at all. I started to wonder what is Hazel's gift and what did she do with it that could harm the future of the world. With the last sentence I just thought that she could have just liked horses and that she is meant to find the house that is in her dreams. For Frank's when I saw klutz I automatically thought of a medium height person that isn't to his full height and obviously clumsy. Then I saw the next line and I honestly hadn't heard of any myths about people being descended from heroes but then I guess that it could happen. With the next line of him hoping Apollo claims him but not being very good at archery during the war games I can't help but think that maybe he isn't a son of Apollo at all. Since Apollo's kids are always good at archery. The last sentence though is making me wonder what Frank's secret is that he feels like he can trust Hazel with and what did Hazel do to get Frank to trust her with this kind of secret.Now that was just my first thoughts just by reading the plot. I kept those thoughts in my head as I started to read the book. Which I immediately started to feel bad for Percy as he looked in my mind's eye as looking pretty bad after fighting a ton of never dying monsters while trying to find Camp Jupiter. He runs into an old hippie lady that all I can't help but think is either a monster or one of the other goddess's hiding out. Which turns out to be right even though Percy had lost his invulnerability when he crossed into Roman territory which sucks for Percy. But what's good is he makes some new friends, especially with Hazel and Frank, and goes on a quest with his two new friends.We also found out a lot about Hazel and Frank's pasts and with what Frank intrusts with Hazel. Which I'm not telling since that would ruin the book. Well not as much if I told you what the quest is about but I think you can tell what it is if you look at the cover and after you get kind of far into the book. Like once Percy is in camp. The ending is also very good as well.Just like with most of Rick Riordan's books this one is also a good book. I loved everything about it and I am glad though that Percy started to remember stuff from his past faster than Jason. Out of most of the people in this book there is one character I seriously dislike and I guess that is mostly just on him thinking he is this high and mighty sort of prophecy giver from teddy bear stuffing. His name is Octavian and I really don't like him especially with the way he treats Percy, and most of the other campers, since they first met in the book. Plus he doesn't even look that good. I mean Frank looks better than him. But yeah I think that is the only bad thing. Though we did see Nico and him acting like he didn't know Percy when he did is kind of cool. Ricky is a Tricky Duck
What do you get when you mix Greek Gods with Roman Gods? One big, fantabulous mess of mythological fun! When you pick up the Heroes of Olympus: Son of Neptune, by Rick Riordan, you will expect to hear about the characters from the first book in the series. But Riordan has a plan... a plan that will make you obsess about the next book a whole year! Riordan is a masterful, evil genius who keeps us engrossed and makes us love his characters like they are our own friends and relatives.Juno (Roman Hera) had an interesting plan- put a Roman demigod in the Greek camp (Jason) and a Greek demigod in the Roman camp (Percy). What she did next was mean, but it served its purpose- she wiped their memories. In The Lost Hero, we watched Jason find his purpose. In this book, we see Percy meet up with two Roman demigods, Frank and Hazel, to start their part of the quest to stop Gaia from rising. Gaia, the oldest mother goddess of the earth is one mean cookie who will send everything to stop the demigods from foiling her plan to return- mean cyclops, basilisks, even creepy little grain gods. (Imagine being stalked by the God of Wheat?!)While they know they have a greater purpose, both Hazel, a daughter of Pluto and the underworld, and Frank, a reluctant son of Mars (Ares) still have their own demons to deal with. They embark upon a quest to stop Gaia's first giant son from returning, but they know the Roman camp is still in danger. along their quest, they learn just how dangerous things have gotten out in the mythological and the modern worlds. With monsters and beast roaming around searching for them, they aren't sure they will get their quest finished, let alone get back in time to stop the raid on the camp. But what Gaia and the monsters failed to realize is that Percy and the demigods have friends, lots and lots of friends. Will they defeat the monsters this time? Will it stop Gaia's plot to destroy the Greek and Roman gods forever?I picked up this book expecting to see Jason, Piper, and Leo, and I was surprised (although not unpleasantly) that this book was not about them. With this new trio, I expect the six will come together with another demigod (Annabeth?) to create the seven from the prophecy that save the world from Gaia. The worst thing about these stories is that a year in between each installment is literally painful. They are so tied to one another that it is awful to wait that long to find out what happens next. I have a feeling I know where Riordan is going with this, but you never know! Ole Ricky is a tricky duck!Like the other Riordan books, these are phenomenal for all ages. Perfect for middle readers, funny enough for older readers, even my grandmother loves these books! Everything written by this man should be on the selves of every library and classroom in the country. They are so accessible, exciting, and hilarious, they make the perfect go-to book for any struggling or strong reader. Not to mention, it makes everyone wish they were a demigod. Who would you want to be related to? Neptune? Pluto? Hera? Aphrodite? I simply can't decide!

Super fun series!
The Son of Neptune is the second book in The Heroes of Olympus series. I'll review the whole series at once when I've finished it, but through book two I'm very impressed! It's a perfect combination of silly fun and adventure fun. I'm anxious for my kids to read them!SERIES REVIEWIs it really so hard to write a satisfying ending? The Blood of Olympus, the fifth and final book of the Heroes of Olympus series, lost its way--and not even everyone's favorite demigods could save this book from itself. After four years of build up, everything about The Blood of Olympus felt rushed. The ending, which should have been magnificent, was forced and anticlimactic. Somewhere along the way Nico's personal problems replaced saving the world as the main conflict the series needed to resolve, and it's felt from front cover to back cover of The Blood of Olympus. That ending...blah. I was so disappointed.Which is such a bummer, because up until the last book, Heroes of Olympus was so much fun!A watch out from parent to parent: In the 4th book, The House of Hades, the character Nico, who is 14, reveals that he feels same-gender attraction to Percy Jackson. He says he has had a "crush" on Percy for a long time. We learn that the reason he stays distant and keeps to himself is because of his heartache and shame. In the 5th book, Nico continues to struggle with feeling shame and guilt. He finds acceptance in the end, and he discovers he really does have a place to belong after all. He tells Percy about his feelings, and in the last few pages forms a potentially romantic friendship with another boy. The issue is treated positively, and I can appreciate that a youth reading about what goes on in Nico's head would give them an important perspective on how someone experiencing same-gender attraction might feel. Certainly the hope is that this will help them respond with an understanding heart when they encounter a similar situation in real life. However, as I expressed in my review on The House of Hades, I feel it was presumptuous of the author to present this sensitive topic in a children's book without giving parents a chance to discuss it with their kids first.The Heroes of Olympus series is A LOT of fun! The last book was disappointing, but I'll still be recommending the series to my children who are at least 11 or 12. And I'll stay close to them as they move through so that when they get to book 4 and 5 we can have some important discussion.

An Unbiased Review from a Fan
Obviously, most of the people who will purchase this book have read through the whole Percy Jackson series and the 1st installment of the Heroes of Olympus Series. Taking that into consideration, I will not go through a tiresome plot review as a plethora of other reviewers have already provided, and will undoubtedly provide it after my post.THE BOOKTHE GOOD: The new major characters introduced are very interesting. Both Hazel and Frank have strong back stories with dark undertones. Putting bits of Chinese Mythology was also a surprise, though one cannot shake the feeling that the author might be laying plot elements for a possible tie-up with his other series, The Kane Chronicles (as it always hints on).THE BAD: The plot was fine but not surprising. What shocked me more than the "I've-read-this-somewhere-else" plot twists was an inconsistency that was in the book (so as not to spoil anything, I'll be quite cryptic: How the Giant of the North was defeated / the prerequisites of how to defeat a giant). The Percy Jackson series was tight with the rules of the world set by the author, so it came as a surprise that the spin-off was a bit off.THE UGLY: The author has decided not to reveal new prophecies in full. It made me feel like he was not doing it to excite the reader, but rather, he has not decided what to do in the next book yet so he's keeping his options open.THE E-BOOK STRUCTUREThere are typographical errors everywhere. I have a gut feel the publisher/Amazon will release an edited version sooner as a lot of reviewers complain about the same thing. As of this writing, the version is riddled with unintentional paragraph breaks and missing "spaces" from words that distract the readers from the flow of the story. If you are the type who gets easily sidetracked by these typos, I suggest for you to wait for the release of the updated version (if they will be releasing it).THE SERIES IN GENERALI started out Percy Jackson quite late. I bought the whole series and read through it. Suffice to say, it was OK. It was a far cry from other recent YA series "greats" like Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Hunger Games and Artemis Fowl. But it was a notch higher compared to other mainstream YA hits (which I still do not understand where the hype came from) like The Inheritance Cycle, The Secret Life of Nicholas Flammel, The Lorien Legacies, Twilight and Cirque Du Freak (the better being mentioned first, succeeding, getting worse).What lacked for me in the 1st series was the depth on the characters. Unlike the previous "recent YA greats" I've mentioned, the main characters in the PERCY JACKSON series did not seem to develop any semblance to "maturity". Through all the battles, sacrifices and hardships the main characters have faced, they only seemed to have brief moments of epiphany , then go back to their previous reckless juvenile banters. The author also puts in whimsical imageries that are sometimes too much, leaving the general feel of the whole series being too comical for the reader to take anything from it seriously.The 2nd Series started off with a premise that the author has decided to mature the tone. New characters like Jason Grace, Leo and Pipper had more serious back issues which have been exposed by the author in a great fashion. But as I have mentioned, the author can't seem to decide if he will progress to a much darker feel as he keeps abruptly cutting serious scenes with off-handed juvenile repartees.The Son of Neptune seemed to have continued his try on introducing new characters with profound past experiences. But like in the 1st installment, he hastily cuts dark expositions of the character's soul with random things which becomes a bit tiresome when you reach around half of the book.It is also obvious that unlike in the 1st series where things "just happen" out of plot necessity, the author is trying to inject plot elements he will later use in future installments. Again, his attempts are pretty much noticeable. This includes the "open-ended prophecies" where you feel like the author does not know what to do with the next book yet.All in all, The Heroes of Olympus is still a good read if you want to pass time and if you want to update yourself with the current pop culture. Shall I purchase the succeeding installments? Yes. Will this series become a classic? Yes. Is this a great literary masterpiece? I still have not decided yet.

Percy is Back!!!
After The Lost Hero, I was pretty skeptical about this seires. I liked Percy WAY better than Jason. I mean, in The Lost Hero, they were all like "ohh, your so awesome Jason, even though you can't even remeber what you did, while we all plainly know that Percy defeted Kronos. But youre still SO awesome!" When I learned that The Son Of Neptune was going to be about Percy, I litarly started jumping up and down in anticipation.The Son of Neptune was a great read, although there could of been more action on Percy's part. This book was also very halarious. I qoute, (Percy just summoned a wave, drowning the ghosts. However, the wave also knocked him off the tall glacier, and into the water.)Frank "Percy just sacreficed himself to save us. No, I won't belive he is dead."-I just wanted to say that they are underestimating him hugley, as you will soon find out-(After Frank and Hazel defeat the giant)"We found Percy waiting for us by the glacier, and will you belive it? He actually looked kind of mad!""Are you okay? That was a huge fall!" Percy "Oh, you mean off the glaceir? I jumped twice that distance off the St Louis Arch." Frank and Hazel "What?!" Percy,"Long story. Tell you guys later."About the characters, I think Riordan does a great job creating diverstiy. Frank is a big clumsy boy,*Spoiler* whos life depeneds on a peice of wood.*end*The only thing he is good at is archery, and he hopes Apollo will claim him. However, he turns out to be a son of Mars(Ares).Hazel is a curesed girl who should be dead. She can find any gems, or valuble metals around her. Actually, the gems are attracted to her. But, whoever accepts the valubles will be given very bad luck.Between Percy and Jason,I think you know who I like best. I am not trying to be prejudiced, but its the fact that I was with Percy for 5 books, where he did all this amazing stuff. Then this guy pops up out of nowhere, and sudenly he is the most amazing guy on the universe. Don't get me wrong- I love Jason- but I wish that Jason's " Im so popular and awesome and everyone loves me" aura could have been a little bit more subtle. The best thing I liked about this story was that while Jason couldnt remeber anything about his past, Percy woke up with like 1/6 of his memory already there. And while Jason couldnt remeber any of his memorys until Hera gave them back to him, Percy almost got everything back in the middle of his quest. In fact, he woke up with one word on his mind: Annabeth. Cutest thing ever, right?Overall, I loved reading this book. At first, I thought it would be the same thing as The Lost Hero, only swapping out Jason for Percy. I assure you that is far from the truth.

The Other Side of the Demigod Coin
Percy Jackson has no memory of his past at all except for the name Annabeth. All he can remember is the last 8 months. But something is drawing him to the hills around San Francisco.What he finds there is Camp Jupiter, a Roman outpost in America. The inhabitants are made up of demigods like himself who swear allegiance to the Roman side of the ancient gods. They base their camp around Roman military outposts and the even have a Roman city where they can retire after serving the required number of years.Percy arrives in mid-June and quickly finds himself falling in with Hazel and Frank, to demigods near his own age with secrets in their past. The three of them are sent on a quest to free Death so that the monsters the demigods kill will once again die. Will they live long enough to succeed? What will the cost be to the three of them if they do? And will Percy ever remember who he is?Since Percy is going through what Jason did in the last book, I was worried that this one would feel like a retread. It didn't because we know Percy's backstory, so watching him regain it was actually interesting. Of course, the plot follows the familiar lines we've had in all these books. I'd like to see a little deviation from the formula, but I do still find the formula entertaining.And it allows the characters to shine. I love Hazel and Frank as much as I do the other characters in this universe. Even some of the periphery characters we don't get to know as well are great.Then there's the humor. While all these books have some laughs, I feel like this is the funniest to date. I especially loved a section set in the headquarters of a certain major website located in Seattle.Those who are ready for an epic adventure will enjoy this fun series.
