It’s inspiring and helpful!
I love, love, love this book. It’s beautiful, informative, and inspiring. Our backyard is nearly fully shaded, and when my husband suggested building a vegetable garden in our front yard a few years ago, I couldn’t catch a vision for it. Once I saw Nicole’s creations, I knew her style garden was something I’d be proud to show off in our front yard. I started following her social media accounts and soaking up all of her podcasts. I couldn’t wait for her book to arrive. It’s as incredible as I hoped. Full of clear and specific instructions, helpful guides, and gorgeous pictures that can’t help but inspire you. Great tips!
Whether I manage to build a fancy raised bed kitchen garden or not this book had great gardening tips and and information to use in whatever level of gardening I decide to use. It was also easy to read which is a bonus when you’re dealing with so much non-fiction. Read moreVer másVer menos

Simple and Straightforward
I heard this author speak on a Podcast on Spotify and got inspired to think about Kitchen Gardening. From there I followed her on IG and the bought her book. I like what she has to say, she is fun and keeps it simple. She talks about her own experiences and teaches you names and background about different aspects of this medium. I think if you are looking for a tried and true way to get started she is a great advisor. I have read many gardening books and Nicole's approach is simple and striaght forward and breaks it down in a way that is attainable. Also, if you look at the pictures in her book, she gives you lots of inspiration and helps you to think more outside our normal garden boxes. I am really proud of what I have done in my own kitchen garden since discovering Nicole tips and her various ways of communicating her message. Gave me a NAME for the garden style of my dreams, and a step-by-step of how to create it
I've had a vague idea of what I want in a garden, but this book gave my amorphous guesswork a NAME. A "kitchen garden," that's EXACTLY the kind of garden I want. (Countdown to our move to a new place with garden space is going!) Nicole Burke brings life to an idea that's so novel, and yet feels so obvious at the same time -- like "why has it taken us gardeners so long to figure this out?" Unlike most gardening books, KGR doesn't waste 1/4 of the book on super basic gardening how-tos. It goes over it briefly but it assumes (correctly) that you aren't reading this book to learn how to seed start. What it teaches you is how to figure out WHAT to grow in your particular climate, WHEN to grow it, and -- most notably -- how to POSITION those plants in your kitchen garden to be both functional and beautiful. The concept here, of taking decorative landscaping design concepts and applying them to the food garden -- rather than stuffing the food garden in the back corner of the yard because it lacks the aesthetics of the rose garden -- is unique amongst gardening books. Not only are you going to learn how to create a stunning lush garden space of your own, it's going to be made out of plants that are USEFUL, not just beautiful. I'd rate it 11/10 if I could. I bought this book on a whim -- I heard Burke on a podcast I listened to a while back and the title here sounded familiar -- and I can say it's easily already one of the most useful books on gardening I've ever bought (and i've bought many!)
