My son loves this book
"I’m a Big Brother" by Joanna Cole has quickly become a beloved book in our household, especially for my 5-year-old son. He was so excited about becoming a big brother that he picked this book up and read it to me without any prior reading practice! The text is easy to follow, making it perfect for young children who are just starting to read on their own.The story revolves around a young boy who is about to welcome a new sibling. It captures the joy, excitement, and even some of the concerns that come with becoming a big brother. The illustrations are bright and engaging, complementing the narrative beautifully. Perfect book to introduce child to new baby .
This book is perfect. I got it for my grandson to help him adjust to becoming a big brother . This book is exactly what I was looking for. It should help him understand what a baby can and can’t do and how both baby and him are special and loved .

Great for expecting a sibiling
I'm a Big Brother is such a sweet and simple book that really helped our little one feel special and included during the transition to becoming a big sibling. The story is easy to understand and focuses on the positive aspects of having a new baby in the family. The illustrations are adorable, and the message is gentle and encouraging. Not for just 4-8 year olds!
This book is adorable and should be purchased immediately by anyone that is a part of this joyous event! My son recently turned 2 and he is going to be big brother soon. In a effort to make the transition a little easier, I bought this book. Many people complain that it's wordy. It is wordier than other books for the toddler/preschooler age group but that doesn't make it a bad thing. You can have plenty of opportunities to read to your child and each time he/she can learn to sit for longer periods of time. My son likes it a lot and is happy when I pull it out of the book shelf. Sometimes he'll grab it on his own and "read" it and look at the pictures, which is still a good thing. He seems to undertand it. I do agree with a few parents that it does not at all mention the possibility that Mommy may be nursing the new baby. I am fine with it the way it is myself but I am sure there are other books out there that probably emphasis nursing it which is great. Well worth the $6 I paid.Ver másVer menos

A good introduction for small children...
Our 2 1/2 year old has really taken to this book--it's perfectly age appropriate. It is NOT wordy, like one negative review said. 2-3 simple, short sentences per two page spreads is not wordy for a two year old. The pictures are simple and it addresses how a baby cannot do the same things as a big boy--walk, talk, eat pizza, etc. It has a very positive tone and talks about all the nice things a big brother can do for a new (genderless, so it works for everyone) baby; i.e. sing a song, hold gently after asking Mommy, helping Daddy with diaper, keeping the baby warm and cozy.One negative review complained that the mother doesn't hold the baby at all--that's just not true. It shows her holding the baby on two separate pages to be exact...same as Dad and the Big Brother. It does show the baby in a stroller, so if you think strollers are terrible, I guess you'll dislike that.I do agree with the complaints that it doesn't address nursing at all. Not many books do--I wish it had one page showing Mom nursing the baby with a simple "Sometimes babies drink milk from Mommy too." along with the bottle. But it only shows a bottle in passing in any case.If you have an 18 month-3 year old about to be a big brother, this book is a perfect introduction for them. Well worth it!Ver másVer menos

Sweetest Story and Attitudes
This and the I'm a Big Sister are the sweetest books!! They have the same sweet storyline that is so positive and no bad attitudes toward the new baby. We've given them as gifts to 3 little ones expecting baby siblings and everyone has loved them and read them again and again. I just got a set for our church library. It is not easy to find positive children's books that display good character traits and attitudes so super happy to find these after rejecting several others we previewed.Ver másVer menos

Very good book to introduce big brother to baby!
This is by far the favorite book for my 2yo about being a big brother. The writing AND the pictures are good in this book. It goes over things a little one can understand like how a baby is too little for this or that or a baby likes this or that. Unlike other books, it does a relatively good job of explaining things like why a baby cries and that being a "BIG" brother has its advantages too. It also lets the older sibling know he is special. In my opinion, that covers enough to make me happy and makes sense to my little one too. How can you beat that? There is nothing about breastfeeding in this book but that does not mean one who breastfeeds (i.e. me) should overlook it. It refers to milk, shows a bottle but not where it comes from so it doesn't promote either but simply relays information that your child can understand IMO.Ver másVer menos

Great book!
We purchased this book a couple months before our second child was born and read it once a week with our oldest child. Over time, he started to mention his baby brother in his mommy’s tummy and would smile when we would talk about him. Now that the baby is here, the only thing that he has ever said is how much he loves his baby brother so I guess it worked out well! Great book!!Ver másVer menos

Beautiful gift from our new baby to big bro
This book is so beautiful. Our new baby girl gave it to her big brother in hospital when he first met her. Was so special.

Simple but ok
The book is ok although very simple and doesn't really approach many subjects. We also bought Babies Don't Eat Pizza, which was a lot more complete so we're saving this one for when he baby is actually here. I don't think it's great to prepare an older child for a baby but it's a nice little book.Ver másVer menos
