Well-made USB data hub / charger
Xiaobi BH8124PQ 7 Port USB HubI recently got a new PC and found it was hard to get to the built in USB ports. The simplest solution was to buy a USB hub and mount it where it would be easy to reach. I’ve bought Xiaobi hubs in the past and have always been happy with them, so I decided to try another one.This Xiaobi USB hub is a combination charger and data hub. It has 3 charging only ports, they cannot be used for data, and 4 10Gbps data ports. I expect to use the charging ports mainly to keep my phone and my VR headset charged. The hub can support up to 45watt charging thorough a PD USB C port. I tested the charging ports by hooking my Dell XPS13 up to the PD port and it worked fine, charging at a 43-watt rate.Ergonomically, the hub is pretty nice. It has a slanted front that makes it easy to get to the connectors. It’s a very well-made, attractively designed device and is quite small. It’s only about 6” by 2” by 1.25” and weighs very little. The data cable to the host PC is about 31 inches long while the cable to the power pack is about 58 inches long. I consider its price to be reasonable for its functionality.The “power on” led is a tiny blue LED that you can barely see. I suppose its small size might be an advantage if you are using it in a dim room and don’t want the light a larger LED would produce.The main thing you need to keep in mind is that this is a 10Gbps hub and has a single 10Gbps link to the host PC. This means that if you attach multiple devices to the hub, they will all be sharing the same 10Gbps of bandwidth. If you attach multiple external SSDs, and access them all at the same time, you will probably not be too happy. I’m using it to dump memory chips from cameras and to copy SSDs to make backups. It works fine for both jobs. If you are using the ports for low-speed devices, like audio headsets, you will never notice the bandwidth limitations.Note: this is a data only device! It does not support things like video output.If you are thinking of buying it, you should think about what you are going to hook up to it and make sure the 4 data ports are enough.Ver másVer menos

Good stationary desktop hub with plenty of connectivity
I bought this to stay on my desk as a permanent workstation hub, and it's worked really well for that purpose. I use it to connect my laptop to my desktop setup, external monitors, and accessories while also charging my phone and headphones, and it has handled all of that reliably. The angled design and non-slip base are nice touches, and the included power supply keeps everything running consistently. One thing to keep in mind is that while the USB-C power delivery works for topping off my laptop, I still prefer plugging directly into the wall if the battery is very low because it charges noticeably faster. Since I wasn't looking for a portable dock, the larger power adapter hasn't been an issue for me. Perfect for a work from home setup!
My husband works from home several times a week, so he has a docking station that allows him to connect his work laptop to his personal computer, and a KVM switch that allows him to utilize multiple monitors, a keyboard, and a mouse for both purposes. While this setup works great, it utilizes all of the available USB ports, so he doesn’t have the flexibility to plug in additional things if needed. This device is a fantastic solution to that problem. It provides 4 additional data ports, along with 3 power ports, which he uses to charge his phone, AirPods, and Bluetooth mouse as needed. The triangular shape is perfect, too! It sits nicely on a desk against the wall, and plugging and unplugging cables is easy with the angled surface. Unlike some portable USB hubs, this one requires an external power source, so it works best for a permanent desk setup rather than while on the go. Great Desktop USB Hub
This Xiaobi 7-in-1 USB-C Hub has been a great addition to my desktop setup. I wanted a convenient way to bring high speed USB ports onto my desk instead of reaching behind the computer, and this has done exactly that. After several days of use, it has been reliable with no disconnects or other quirks.The ports are laid out well on the angled housing, making it easy to plug in drives and accessories. I also appreciate the small power indicator LED. It is bright enough to confirm the hub is powered without being distracting on the desk.Transfer speeds have matched expectations. I have been able to move files at the full 10 Gbps rate when using compatible devices, so it delivers the performance it advertises. good hub - needs to be plugged in
This is a very nice usb hub. The design works well, with the slight angle making it perfect for a desk setup, where you need to add or remove USB plugs. Good versatility of options including 3 USB-C ports and 2 USB high power ports (also fast data transfer).Because of the high power it requires this thing didn't work as well when it was just plugged in to the computer - it required the power brick as well. This isn't a huge problem but I would have liked the flexibility (knows that I wouldn't get the power, just the data from the ports).Ver másVer menos

Easy Setup, Smooth Start
I have had a good start with this USB-C hub. Setup was straightforward, and I did not run into any issues getting it ready to use. Everything was easy to understand, so I was able to get it in place without spending time troubleshooting. That is exactly what I want from an accessory like this, since it should make a workspace more useful rather than add another problem to solve. So far, it has worked as expected. I have not experienced any setup-related problems or other issues during my initial use, and the overall experience has been smooth. It is still early, but the first impression has been positive. The hub has done what I needed it to do without any extra effort on my part. A tidy desktop hub that makes a laptop setup feel much more like a desktop
Since switching from a desktop PC to a laptop, I needed an easy way to reconnect all the peripherals that normally stay on my desk. My hard drives are mounted in a USB 3.2 drive bay with a spare USB 3.2 port on the back, so this hub lets me plug in things like my mouse and other accessories permanently. It now sits under my monitor as a single connection point instead of constantly plugging and unplugging devices.The hub feels quite robust with its metal casing, with power and the host connection both entering from the rear to keep cables out of the way. The angled top makes the ports easy to reach, it stays put thanks to the non-slip base, and the blue power light is bright enough to show it's on without being distracting.Everything expected was in the box. I hadn't realised from the listing that it uses an external power supply, but after using it I think that's the right approach because it avoids placing the extra power demand on either my laptop or the drive bay it's connected to. The PSU comes with the correct mains plug adapter for the UK with a three pin fitting, which clips on before use. Just not that the power adapter orientation is 180 degrees to the usual UK setup so the output exits to the top, whereas everything else plugged into my extension exits to the bottom of the plugs.Setup couldn't have been much easier. It was simply a case of fitting the UK plug, connecting the power supply, plugging the hub into a USB 3.2 port using the supplied cable and it was ready. Instructions are included, with clear diagrams and text in English and German, although I didn't really need to refer to them because the front panel is clearly labelled.I tested the charging ports with a USB load tester and the single ports I tried comfortably supplied 3A. Fast charging protocols including QC3, AFC and FCP were all detected correctly. For data, I transferred files to and from my phone while the hub was connected through the drive bay, and everything worked reliably without any transfer issues. At most I had four ports in use at once, some for charging and others for data, and there were no problems.The one point buyers really do need to understand is that not every port carries data. The dedicated charging ports are exactly that, charging only, so don't expect a phone or USB drive connected there to appear on your computer. As long as you know the difference, it's clearly marked and isn't a problem.At £45.99 this costs more than a basic unpowered USB hub from brands like UGREEN, but those typically focus on data expansion and rely on the computer for power. If, like me, you want a permanent desktop connection point with dedicated fast charging ports and an external power supply, I think the extra cost is justified. My only lingering thought is that the hub appears to stay powered continuously, so I'd have preferred some form of standby mode or power switch to eliminate any idle power draw.

Good desktop dock but does miss a trick or two
First off this does come with the power supply and USB cable (USB-C to USB-C with a USB-A to C adapter at one end).Second, as stated the power supply is not powerful enough to run a laptop so it does not even try. If you are using this with a laptop, not a desktop, then you still need your laptop power supply.This is a nice looking, solid feeling dock. You get two USB-C and two USB-A ports, plus three USB power ports, one C and two A. One of the areas it is a miss is the power ports could also have been set to data connectivity. There are enough powered devices out there that do so.The data ports all work, though I do not have drives fast enough to truly test the performance figures.All the power ports work.One thing that does not work are the data ports if the hub is not plugged in. I am sure they could, even if at a lower transfer rate.While many will use this with a laptop it is not particularly portable. You need the power cable/plug as well as the dock. As a result this is very much designed to be left at your workstation as a source of data and power ports. In that respects it does work well, but with a few basics missing.Ver másVer menos

Needs external power no matter what.
I got this USB-C hub because I often run out of front USB ports on my PC. I regularly have three hard drives connected and needed more ports.I specifically bought it because my PC has a 40Gbps USB-C port. I was hoping it would take that high-speed connection and split it into multiple fast USB-C ports. Unfortunately, it only accepts 10Gbps input and then splits that between all the ports.The biggest problem for me is that it won't work at all unless it's plugged into power. It doesn't function on USB-C power alone. Since I wanted it purely for data and don't have a spare power socket nearby, this is a dealbreaker. My USB-C port can easily supply enough power, so I don't understand why it needs external power.The build quality is actually very good. It has a nice metal casing, the ports feel solid, and I like the colour-coordinated connections. It gives you a good mix of USB-A and USB-C ports.Another concern is that there's no certification marks or safety stamps on the bottom at all. Just their brand logo on the side. That makes me a bit uneasy about the product.Overall, it does work once you plug it into power, but because it requires external power and doesn't support higher input speeds, it doesn't meet my needs.Ver másVer menos

Good mix of power (only) and data USB ports
It's difficult to remember how much of a pain adding things to PCs were before USB came along. Now the problems are having more things than accessible USB ports, and having things wanting more power than the port can supply.This helps solve both issues. Plugged into a single USB A or USB C superspeed 10Gbps port, you get two superspeed 10Gbps USB A ports, two 10Gbps USB C ports, and three charging ports, one 45W USB C and two USB A ones. How much you can get out of the latter two depends on whether you're using one or both of them, and obviously the total speed from the data points can't go above 10Gbps.Build construction is very good, but the included USB A/C to USB C cable could be longer than just under a metre.If the ports had switches to turn them on and off, this would probably have been five stars, even at £45.99.NB: As the line in green says, I got this free of charge. It doesn't affect how I review things; it just means I can do more of them.How I rate products:5 stars: a very good, high quality product. If I lost this, I'd pay to replace it4 stars: a good product.
