Simply the Best
I've been shaving for 60-plus years, with many variations of bladed razors from vintage Gillettes to modern DE and SE razors, everything but straight razors. As well as most versions of Philips Norelco, Panasonic and Braun electrics, from early versions to Panasonic's Arc 6 Pro, Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra and Braun's S9 Pro+. I'm sort of a shaving hobbiest, user and reviewer, and switch routinely between blade and electric. And I can say without a doubt, in my subjective opinion, that Braun's NEVO is the best electric razor from Braun to date. Is it perfect? No - comments below. Is it the best electric razor for everyone? Again, no - different faces, different beards, different techniques. And many prefer a blade shave. But within the world of foil electrics, this razor in features, comfort and efficiency probably tops the charts. For starters, it's an improvement over Braun's already excellent S9 Pro+ - a coated head cassette (similar to Philips' nano coating on their latest rotary heads) that really does make the cassette glide smoother over your face. It's an incremental but significant improvement. Secondly the body build is one piece stainless - something almost every other company has abandoned because of costs - the only metal you generally find in other razors is in the cutters. The stainless build in the Braun has a premium feel in the hand, a surprisingly positive grip and the easy cleanup and longevity of stainless steel. The attached trimmer is easier to use and has a more prominent cutter for better visibility, and the head locking controls are now integrated into the sliding trimmer control, different than the S9 where the locking controls were on the front of the razor and the sliding trimmer was separate. Awkward at first, it becomes intuitive after the first shave, and it eliminates one extra control button to break. The display screen is bright, intuitive and provides useful information, although including shaving time would have been a good addition. The NEVO is missing the integral latches to remove/attach the head, and instead relies on the "snap on" attachment of their Series 7, a downgrade to some. Time will tell if this is a more secure or easier to use arrangement. It IS likely cheaper, but again removes some moving parts and springs - potential failure points on earlier razors. The cleaning station also differs from the traditional Braun station - more compact and square, with the cleaning cartridge loading from the front which is much more convenient than Braun's latest back-loading stations. And the drying fan is virtually silent, barely detectable for anyone beyond a few feet. Braun has always had a superior cleaning system compared to Panasonic or Philips - their cleaning solution (mostly alcohol) is conveniently packed in reusable cartridges (unlike Panasonic's where you mix your own in an open container, and cannot be removed and stored once mixed), is sanitizing (unlike Panasonic's water-based detergent system which has minimal antimicrobial properties), and is good for 30 days with daily shaving. The shave itself is comfortable, smooth and efficient - almost as close as Panasonic's Arc shavers, the benchmark. Where Braun excels over the Panasonic is the ability to trim longer or close-lying hair, for those who shave less frequently or have unusual hair growth patterns. It's an expensive razor at $500-$600 - probably the most expensive razor commercially available to date. Again, not for everyone, especially considering the price. For significantly less you can get the S9 Pro+, with ALMOST the same performance (and the NEVO head cassette is interchangeable with the 96M cassette of the Pro+, if you just wanted to upgrade your S9 Pro+). And not as close as a blade shave, which you won't get from any electric razor, ever. But for the price you get the most solid and premium build on any modern electric razor, one of the most comfortable and efficient shaves you can get from an electric, and a quick, convenient cleaning system that actually works and sanitizes the razor head as well. If you can afford it, highly recommended.Ver másVer menos
