Subject: HONEST OPINION FROM A HEALTH SERVICE PROFESSIONAL
After 30+ years as a health service professional treating children on the spectrum and focusing on the biomedical approach to ASD, I am excited to finally see a sensory friendly multivitamin for kids with Daily Values (DVs) that are reasonable and not just a “tiny drop in the bucket!” That’s why I was so surprised to see a review here that says this formula is “aggressive” when in fact this product’s DVs are a “win” for selective eaters! I understand, however, that DVs can be confusing or misunderstood, but DVs are actually just the minimum nutrient requirements (or standard reference) established by the FDA designed to prevent deficiency in the general population. In my particular field, we strive to reach “optimal health” targets, so finding a product with percentages higher than a standard DV (particularly for water soluble vitamins like B vitamins) is a STRENGTH for this product! I am particularly happy to find this product prioritizes bioavailable nutrient forms, brain and nervous system support, and selective eating considerations, and not just another tiny, dosed gummy loaded with sugar requiring a child to eat multiple gummies without ever reaching a standard DV.I like that this product also has sensory flexibility, allowing kids to enjoy a great tasting multivitamin (or unflavored) that can simply be put in water and/or mixed into almost any liquid or food. When I first became aware of this multivitamin, I actually “put it to the test” because I didn’t want to recommend a product to my patient population unless I had first hand evidence it met the requirements stated in the product description. What better individual to sample this product than my own “extremely picky/selective eater” ASD child…the one who can smell a pickle from a mile away and vomit at the texture of a green bean (maybe some of you can relate). The “unflavored” version was mixed in a glass of water, and he was asked to give his opinion on the “taste” of the drink and if he would recommend it to others. Before tasting it, he gave it the “smell test” as with anything that goes into his mouth. His response, “Well, I would not recommend it because it has no taste.” When told it was “unflavored” and it was not supposed to have any taste, he responded, “Then I would give it a 10 out of 10.” 😊I noticed a few reviews where the parent had mentioned they had “tasted” the unflavored version, but it appeared they had not allowed their child to try it. I tasted it myself and did not notice any taste at all. However, in plain water, the B vitamins do add a tint to the water, therefore, I would recommend adding it to a liquid with color (such as orange juice) or in an opaque or solid water bottle. As for the flavored version, it was a 10/10 for my son; he not only liked it mixed with water, but LOVED it mixed with plain Greek Yogurt, stating it reminded him of the old Trix yogurt (unknown to him without all of the added sugar).Again, I’m extremely happy with the level of B vitamins in this product! As a reminder, most B vitamins (an exception is B6) have no established upper intake level (they are water soluble) as the potential of toxicity is extremely low. While Vitamin B6 cites an upper limit, the amount of B6 in this product remains well below the pediatric upper intake level that could cause any potential side effects.Another HUGE point for me is this product takes into consideration the methylation pathways that are especially important for neurodivergent kids with an MTHFR mutation and selective eating. This vitamin has methylated/activated forms of B vitamins (unlike many other children’s multivitamins) and as parents of kids with sensory sensitivities and selective eating, we know it can be challenging to get our kids to eat a broad, nutrient-diverse diet, and having piece of mind that highly absorbable methylated B vitamins are reaching our kids nervous system and facilitating neurotransmitter production is paramount.Last, the above information is strictly my own personal opinion, and parents should always discuss their concerns about any supplement with a healthcare provider knowledgeable in this specific treatment area. My two cents…grab this product while you can! For less than 1.50 per day, this product is one of the best multivitamins I have seen for kids! (note: I also read a few reviews saying the unflavored container is only “halfway full” as compared to the flavored version - which has the added organic flavorings. This is a common supplement presentation, and the “size” of the container does not impact the number of servings in each container…which in this case is a 30 day supply).Ver másVer menos
