Quite fragile parts, but overall good quality and good outcome

The instructions were moderately clear, quite easy to follow. The quality of the wood was okay, the wood is VERY fragile so you need to take extra care while assembling, all in all I like the outcome of the ship. I did accidentally break some of the parts but was able to fix it with some glue. All in all you get what you pay for and I would say im not disappointed with this. I did think it was gonna be a bit bigger than it actually was.Ver más

Lot of Fun for Little Money (plus Cheap Tricks)

This makes a great project for very little money. The following advice may enhance your build.Note: Instead of labeling the seven detachment panels with part numbers, they’re located on a map for each panel. Unusual, but it takes little time to get used to it.• The supplied ‘rope’ (stays and lines) is soft and difficult to work with. You can harden tips like a shoelace (aglet) by coating the ends of string with wood glue and rubbing it in into a point with your fingers. Then let dry.• No olden sailing vessel was seen with white cordage and the supplied line looks bad. I purchased butcher’s twine, easier to work with than the original and virtually the same ecru color.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FVHOPWA° The suggested in-and-out lacing of the sails doesn’t look attractive. Instead, use what I think is a variation of a seamstress’ chain stitch: After drawing the twine through a hole, loop back through the previous stitch before moving on. The effect is far more realistic.• The ship’s wheel looked more like a flower and the anchors were hideously huge and out of scale. I bought a packet of inexpensive nautical paraphernalia for charm bracelets. The model lacks a cathead (anchor mount), so I simply glued metal anchors into place. I twisted a small ship’s wheel eyelet through the deck. On the deck’s underside, I threaded a sliver from a detachment panel through the eyelet.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KOQAN8S• The description mentions glue, necessary when laying hatch covers on deck. Glue is indicated by a grey triangle with droplets icon. I used Tightbond wood glue and, in a couple of critical places, clear Gorilla Glue. Use only the smallest, smallest amount. Bear in mind small pieces from detachment panels can be used to make repairs.• I had difficulty prying the bowsprit (D29) from its panel. It’s didn’t just break, it snapped into four pieces. Fortunately I discovered wood coffee stirrers were the same width and the appropriate length. Note how yardarms of the spanker sail are doubled. I did the same thing with two stirrers after trimming the lower end to fit the beakhead (where the bowsprit fits). Hint: Snag two stirrers from a Krispy Kreme shop.• Both the package cover and the instructions show the flag flying the wrong direction, not unusual for people who haven’t been around wind-driven vessels. Fortunately, the error is easy to fix in two different ways. • Lazy way: Simply rotate the mainmast 180° before tying in the sails and shrouds. However, a discerning eye might notice the crows nest platform is reversed. • Almost as easy but more accurate: Rotate the flagstaff 180° against the topmast, and then install the crows nest and crosstrees. For a better fit, snip a tiny square from the bottom of the flagstaff.The model is inexpensive, but a few extra touches can bring it to a higher level.

Ship is fun to build

I really liked this model. The instructions were clear to me and the pieces on the boards came out and they fit close enough if you were using glue which I did. The only thing I didn’t like was pretty small. The pieces have a tiny little knob on them where they fit together that makes it snap together unfortunately sometimes it’s so difficult to push it together. They snapped the part not together.Ver más

Confusing

Very fun after the confusion went away. Really had to call a friend to understand the way to assemble it. I purchased 2 put 1 together without the strings, still haven’t gotten the hang (patience) of it. I was more stressed after putting it together than prior assembly.Ver más
