This is a fantastic scanner!!! This machine scans both sides of a document and is very fast. One of the reviews I read said it does not have an output tray. Well, that is wrong, it slides out from the bottom front of the scanner. You can scan cards, pictures, or documents of various sizes at the same time. Simply center the smaller documents in the feeder along with the larger ones and it performs flawlessly. It doesn't get better than this.Ver másVer menos

A fairly good product, with a few flaws.
okay, I'm bias; I like Canon and have for years.Took a chance with intention to return it Prime. Set-up took about 20m. Much uncertainty and poor instructions.Got it to work in another 10m. Wi-Fi seems best. Never could get a response via USB. (Wi-Fi is preferable in my case.) ADF works good. No instructions. To scan thick stuff like credit cards or licenses, you have to turn off the ultrasonic thickness detector in advanced settings which isn't obvious. Done about 2000 document scans so far. Not tried pictures...that was intentional; I think a different scanner for photograph is required The UI is weird. Consolidation of ALL functionality should be built into one entity instead of having 9 different menu entries. Once started you have to go to the Windows "Notification" area, left-bottom and click the OneTouch icon. Just weird. Hope this helps.Ver másVer menos

Way better than the "NEAT" Scanner. Wish I would have switched years ago.
Wish I would have purchased a long time ago. Great Scanner!!!! Fast, double side, huge capacity, great Apps included.....If you have a "NEAT" scanner, get rid of it and get this!

Not really very Apple Compatible
While the headline of the product description says that this is a "Document Scanner for PC and Mac," the software is so clunky for a Mac that the scanner is essentially useless. First of all, the wireless interface only works with 2.4ghz wifi. This is unfortunate since modern networks are running on 5ghz or switching around. So at first, it looked like the scanner wasn't even on the network until I figured out to look in the 2.4 ghz bands. Once you figure out how to make your laptop stay on 2.4ghz, you can see the scanner on your router, but not on your Mac. The links on the Canon support page are broken, though to their credit, when you call support the tech can help you find links that actually work. It turns out that you have to download a twain driver and some special Canon software. I was able to do all this, but it's still super clunky and not at all the easy experience that I had with a scanner of a different brand that was super fast and just "plug and play." In summary, I would say that if you invest tons of time, you can get this to almost work on a Mac, it's just not elegant and there are better options out there.Ver másVer menos

Easy to setup. Output options are great.
Easy to "plug and play". Set up was a breeze. File output size is variable. Easy to change settings. Roller pulling items in is consistent and strong. Really love this scanner. Output paper tray is a bit fragile but so what?! Just being careful to not break it.Ver másVer menos

Excellent scanner
Perfect for scanning multiple documents. More convenient and faster than using my phone scanner. Plus I can send direct to my computer and pick which file it’s scanned into. Huge help when scanning lots of documents.

Totally disappointing!
One problem after another. Hard to get working. Document detection continuously fails to detect a document in the feeder. Drops driver configuration over and over. Capture on Touch software looks and feels like it's from 3 decades ago.

Extreme performance and built for office use
The last couple of months have been hectic at work as we are reorganizing our company and this means a lot of paperwork needs to be done. It's, of course, easier to file everything electronically, so I have scanned quite a number of pages in order to clean up my files. This allowed me to give the scanner a good workout.The most impressive thing is the speed at which this operates and still provides clear text and images. Every time I use it, I'm reminded of just how slow the last scanner from Canon was. I was originally impressed with that one.The setup was quick and easy. I encountered none of the issues other reviewers mention. In all, it took about 15 minutes. The quick start guide is a nice walkthrough of all the required steps. The use of images is a definite bonus vs' just an explanation of each step. While I wouldn't suggest this someone who's new to computers, I don't think anyone who computer literate would have any problems. The guide includes a URL for the Canon website. From there, I downloaded the setup software and let it do its thing. There were a few steps but no hiccups. The site offers both Windows and Mac versions. I used the USB connection as I prefer wired solutions over wireless any day.► Any user who has set up a printer shouldn't have any problem getting this working. Printers are a lot more work than this.The software does require some attention and setup. This, too, took about 15 minutes, and since the initial setup, I have maybe spent another 15 minutes tweaking the options. Fortunately, the way it's laid out, the steps are logical.Having the LCD screen is nice, and it is touch-enabled, but thumping is a better description of how it's used. They could really make it more sensitive.The phone app works but isn't the most intuitive to use. I'm surprised that Canon didn't come up with something better.The OCR service works great and fast, and so far, it hasn't miss-spelled or misread any wording.I have printers that include nice scanners as well, even double-sided, but they don't do the job anywhere as fast, and I can state that the scanned documents aren't as good-looking as those from this machine. It doesn't scan pages as fast as those machines that count money but the performance isn't much slowerThis isn't a low-cost option, but like anything else, if you want quality, you pay for it. It's also the difference between a device that's meant for occasional home use and one that's going to be used regularly in an office.

Sooo much better than my all in one
So i sign a ton of documents, especially since working at home during this virus period. I was using another brands all in one printer, which is an office model and expensive but it never did scan documents properly and jammed constantly making me have to redo it since i wanted them pre done in a pdf. This Canon R50 is unbelievable, ive been using it constantly for the past week and it has had absoutely zero errors, issues, jams or problems whatsoever.It has saved me time, repeated printings of documents having to sign again and preventing me from being at my nerves end. I don't know how i did it before.All of the documents scanned are much better than my workforce all in one on default settings and extremely fast too. You can program it for higher quality scanned if desired such as for photos or extremely small print. i found that default was a good balance between speed and quality though. It can scan up to 40 pages at a time, does 2 sided too.The software is easy to install and hook up, instantly being sent over wifi which i had zero issue setting up. Make sure that if your computer is on a 2.4 ghz connection, you sign the scanner up on the exact same band or your computer might not pick it up properly(something with firewalls in the router).Overall its a great buy for anyone who signs and scans documents daily.
