The backstage story of The Band -- excellent movie
The Band comprised a group of five individualistic musicians who blended to become a fresh and unusual force in popular American music. This film explores that relationship principally through the background and experience of the late Robbie Robertson. It's a really good treatment of the formation, career, and dissolution of a great group who gave us so many fine songs in memorable arrangements. Sadly, only Garth Hudson remains -- appropriately enough, residing in Woodstock, NY. Excellent movie.Ver másVer menos

An itimate approach to the Band one of the greatest bands of the 20th century
If you loved the Band for its music and musicianship, poetry and soulfulness you'll want to have this in your DVD collection. Always a good one to watch and rewatch. The Band thought the eyes and voice of Robbie Robertson with others chiming in. Believe this is a Martin Scorsese documentary.Ver másVer menos

The Band was more than Robbie Robertson
This is a quality, well put together documentary. If you're a fan of The Band, it's an essential watch. Be aware that it is essentially told from the point of view of Robbie Robertson who is presented here as the creative force in The Band. Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson were collectively extremely talented musicians and contributed massively to the work and soul of the group. The Band would not exist without these guys. This was the late 1960's into the mid-1970's, so yes, there were issues with substance abuse and also controversy over songwriting credits and royalty payouts. There can be no argument however, that Manuel, Helm, Danko and Hudson were equally as important to the project of The Band as Robertson.Ver másVer menos

This Log Cabin is Rockin'
If you love the music of The Band, and why wouldn't you, you should greatly enjoy this musical history and documentary of the legendary Americana beat group from 1959 to 1976. Robbie Robertson, the putative mastermind and majority songwriter behind The Band, narrates the events and of course you will get his side of things. He is generous in his praise of his bandmates' prolific musical abilities, but also admits that with success some of them went overboard with alcohol and heroin. It's true that only Garth Hudson remains to give another side of the story, and doesn't. But anyway, Hudson has always been a man of very few words. On the sensational side are a series of impaired car wrecks on the part of Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Levon Helm driving. Another interesting account is how it took a hypnotist to give Robbie Robertson the stamina to get out of his hotel bed and play with The Band at Fillmore West as the fans were kept waiting. The 101 minute doc features cabin wall to cabin wall music and laudatory remarks about The Band by Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and George Harrison. Truly there was never a band like them nor ever will there be ever be another. The Band's songs, as executive producer Martin Scorsese says, are like classics of nineteenth century American literature, set to a melding of folk, blues, country, and rock music. The doc spends much time covering the initial two albums and events related to them, then zips quickly to 1976 and their goodbye concert, "The Last Waltz." Completely ignored is how The Band reformed in the 1980s without Robbie Robertson, or putting in context the suicide of Richard Manuel, or for that matter the subsequent musical activities of Robbie Robertson. None the less, this is about as fine a program about The Band as we could ask for.Ver másVer menos

You only thought you knew the story...
Simply blown away by Robertson’s latest reflections. This is so much more revealing than what I knew of the Band’s history. Most of what I knew was from studying the cinematic triumph that Robbie and Marty Scorcese crafted in The Last Waltz. This for me fills in a few blanks that always intrigued me. Learning of Robbies youth, upbringing in Canada and revelations about his biological family were fascinating. Also finally being introduced to his lovely wife Dominique and seeing the clips of his family life explained a lot to me of the reasons behind the Band’s fragmenting and going their separate ways. To often Robbie is I feel unfortunately portrayed as the villain. An egomaniac who tried to take all the credit for the collaborative efforts of the group. Hardly the case imho. Unfortunately addictions played a big role in the disintegration of such a gifted, talented band of brothers. The footage shown I have not seen so it was entirely welcome e and fresh to me. Scorcese after all is a true master and that surely is evident through out. Anyone who appreciates the Band and their individual and collective genius fill enjoy this film. Lovingly crafted you will be hard pressed to not beaffected by its sheer depth and raw emotion. I teased up a few times for sure. The cameos are also delightful. Ronnie Hawkins (still kick in’), George Harrison, Eric Clapton and many more have nice insights. Get it... it’s great.Ver másVer menos

Qnd fiz a compra não havia, em nenhum lugar, a indicação da região da mídia. Não pude assistir. Um grave problema de comunicação da empresa.

DVD werkt niet!!!
De dvd doet het niet, speler zegt 'bad dvd', andere speler geprobeerd, lukt ook niet, krijg 'error', echt waardeloos!!!!
