No neutral, requires a hub - but fantastic quality.
I had some old light switches that controlled my dining table light, and ceiling lights in the lounge that I wanted to incorporate into my smart home. Instead of adding unnecessary traffic on my WiFi network by adding a bunch of WiFi light bulbs, I added a paid of these to the light switches instead. These were easy to swap out, look amazing and operate flawlessly.The pros of doing it this way:* Much lower cost that replacing all the light bulbs with smart light bulbs* Doesn't add unnecessary load on a crowded WiFi network* Maintains the light switch functionality as before - toggles the lights on and off as normal* Avoids issues that might occur if you turned off a light switch with smart bulbs - you'd lose control over them. This problem doesn't exist in this caseThe cons:* Zigbee device and requires an Aqara Hub - I would recommend the M3, although anything from them will work. You can also use third party Zigbee hubs, and integrate into Home Assistant for example* No neutral comes with a price premium. Ouch!Ver másVer menos

So far best one I've tried
Ok so I havent found a switch yet that is 100% perfect however this one is by far the closest hasn't disconnected dosent require internet to work (app control) works well with alexa smart speakers and was easily able to connect to echo 4th gen altho I used a hub as I've been testing various aquara devicesPros: dosent stop working when internet is outNo netural makes it perfect for older houses like mine and is slim enough to fit into existing boxCons: button itself feels cheap and floppy works everytime tho with no issueWhen using app or voice control theres an audible *click* but its not bad enough to really knock it as it only happens during on or off operationsOverall I like this switch and will be buying moreI AM NOT IN ANYWAY SPONSORED BY AQUARA AND USED MY OWN MONEY TO BUY THEIR PRODUCTSVer másVer menos

Simple to pair with Home Assistant or Hubitat
The switch worked just as it should. I paired this one as a Generic Zigbee Switch with a Hubitat hub out in my shop but they also directly pair with Home Assistant. The switch works well so far.

No neutral no ground no aqara hub - Updated
Some switches in my 1960s house have no neutral and no ground (switch loop wiring). This switch works perfectly fine and I was able to add this to Alexa directly and didn’t need the aqare hub or app. I hope this helps anyone that is in the same situation. I did ground mine to metal electrical boxes even though I didn’t have a ground.---UPDATE---After using these switches for a couple days, I've realized if you pair these directly to the Echo Zigbee hub, the switch eventually flashes red meaning it lost connection. This red light flashes until its controlled via Alexa voice again and then it eventually times out and will flash red again.To fix this I tried ordering the M2 Hub which fixed the red light issues but also created another issue. If these are connected to the Aqara hub, Alexa doesn't recognize the devices in routines to use them as triggers. They do appear if it is not being used as a trigger. Unfortunately in my case I am using my switches as triggers to turn on other switches/plugs of other brands.It seems like these devices are locked down to keep you in their ecosystem. If you don't mind them blinking red when on, they still work perfectly fine paired directly to the Echo hubs via Zigbee.UPDATE 3———-I was able to figure out how to get this to work correctly the way I wanted. Do not connect directly to Alexa skill, setup your hub and add all your devices and then add the hub into Alexa by the matter code. This always everything to work correctly in routines!!When I linked to Alexa skill and everything was imported 1 by 1 it was causing errors when trying to make certain routines.Ver másVer menos

Not good enough. Low quality hardware on a kludgy platform.
We purchased a hub and seven of these switches for our home in Aug 2020. They have a cheap feel and are deep so don’t fit the standard wall boxes well on install. We dealt with that because the value for the money was high and once they were working on theory you wouldn’t need to touch them much as Siri would be doing all the switching. Setup was easy into their app but clunky in HomeKit. Our initial impression was: acceptable but not extraordinary in any way.Now it’s November 2020 and the switches are failing. They drop connection to the hub, fail to respond, forget their configuration, and turn themselves off and on randomly. The poor build quality on the physical switch now seems like a big deal because we’re back to manually controlling our lights a lot of the time.We went with these because they don’t require a neutral wire (hard to find) and we could afford to do a bunch of them. We really wish we’d have saved a little longer and gone for a higher quality product. We won’t be purchasing any more Aqara smart home products.Ver másVer menos

Insane Value, High Polish, Easy Open Integration
I very rarely write reviews, but I came back to give these five stars because it's absolutely criminal that their average rating isn't higher. Here's the tl;dr: if you have no-neutral wiring in your home and you're sick of the entire internet smugly telling you that you simply MUST pay a king's ransom for overpriced, decade-old Lutron Caseta hardware if you want your lights to work, this is what you're looking for. The polish and build quality is equivalent (I've used both and Caseta is moving away from no-neutral, so their remaining switches in that area are starting to look pretty dated while still costing an arm and a leg). These give you the same thing while costing a third less per switch, not requiring their hub if you already have another, and they frequently go on sale.As you can probably tell, I've been really frustrated with this "luxury" smart home market where every brand is ignoring existing standards in favor or separate, proprietary walled gardens where you need five different redundant hubs and every feature is an add-on charge in practice. My generic, privacy-focused solution to this has been to search for brands that use Zigbee connectivity, and connect them to my Home Assistant hub instead of their own. Some brands try to stop you from doing this, Aqara does not (aside from their door lock, which needs the hub for security reasons). It was even easier than I expected to install these and set them up in Zigbee2MQTT. But they surprised me by also including literally everything you need (fancy screwless faceplate, screws for both the switch and the underside of the plate, wire nuts) and having MORE features than advertised, even when I installed their switch into another system instead of theirs (many brands artificially prevent other Zigbee coordinators from accessing their more advanced features).I was able to choose whether the indicator light activates when the switch is on or off, decide what it should do after a power outage, choose between quick response mode and anti-flicker mode, and most impressively, choose between it working as a literal switch or decoupling from the circuit, leaving that always-on, and controlling smart lights through the zigbee connection instead. That last one is hugely useful for a lot of setups, and is something I thought I had to pay twice as much for Inovelli Blues to get.Lastly, I don't really get people complaining about how the button function feels. It's a single rocker switch, and it feels like you'd expect one large single button to feel. I actually kind of like how light the press is. The build quality looks solid to me, and if you use their included plate, the whole thing looks really clean. The plate is slightly smaller than an average switch plate, so it looks really cute while still covered the whole switchbox without any issue

Aqara Smart Light Switch (No Neutral, Single Rocker)
Well, this just might be my new "go to" no neutral on/off switch. I have an older home with a couple switch boxes that are wired as "switch legs" with no neutral available in the box. I have a "switch leg" switch at the top of my basement stairs that controls one lonely little bulb at the bottom of the steps. The remainder of the lighting in the unfinished basement are old time pull chain bulbs in ceramic overhead fixtures that I have to manually turn on and off after I go down the basement - a pain to turn on in a nearly dark basement, and a pain to turn off especially if you go up the stairs and realize you left them on.My quest was to find a no neutral on/off switch that could be used to trigger an Alexa routine when the smart basement light switch is toggled on, which would in turn trigger "smart" bulbs located in the pull chain fixtures to turn on, eliminating the need to wire all the fixtures to a single switch. An inverse routine would trigger the lights to turn off when the wired smart switch was turned off.Easier said than done - I have a ton of TP-Link devices in my home, but none of the Kasa switches offer a "no neutral" option, so they were out. I also have Lutron's Caseta switches in my house - they only offer a no neutral dimmer switch, which is illogical on an overhead basement bare bulb light, and also can't be used to initiate an Alexa routine (they can only be acted on as a result of some other smart device action, they can't themselves initiate the action in an Alexa routine). My next attempt was to try Leviton's no neutral on/off switch - a nice product, but again can't be used to initiate an Alexa routine,Enter the Aqara no-neutral on/off switch - add the switch to Amazon's Echo Premium 4th Gen, which has a built in Zigbee hub (no Aqara hub, skill, or account required, put the Aqara device in "discovery mode" and ask Alexa to discover new devices). Next add your smart bulbs (in this case, Kasa branded) to the Kasa app, add the Kasa skill to Alexa - Alexa will discover the bulbs. At this point, you have all the ingredients to create a routine triggered by turning on the Aqara switch, which will turn on the "dumb" bulb that the switch is wired to, and add actions to the routine to turn on one (or more) of the smart bulbs installed in the pull chain fixtures (leave the fixtures turned on all the time, and hide the pull chain string from your family :-) ).Problem solved - now I am also looking at Aqara's door/window sensors for my exterior doors - the Zigbee hub in the Echo Premium 4th Gen opens up a lot of opportunities for Aqara's Zigbee based devices.

Eh, Ok in general, but quality inconsistent
I just moved and found that a couple of my switches did not have neutral wires in the box, so off I go to find new switches and came across these. I ordered one to test out. Got it installed and so far so good, so I order another for a second room, and this one just doesn't want to work. I installed it like normal; the switch comes on when pressed, all seems good. About 5-10 mins later, when I went back to install the wall plates, the switch will not turn the fixture on and the led light on the switch is flashing blue/red, which per the instructions either means it's too hot, or it's not connected to the zigbee network. However, I hadn't gotten to the point of trying to add it to my hub and it was still hanging out of the electrical box, so it shouldn't have been too hot. I went back and confirmed all my connections were solid and tried it again. The switch comes on for about 5 mins, but then once turned off will not come back on.Also, a note about the wall plates. They have designed this switch to have a screwless/decora type look, however the installation is awkward. The long screws to attach the switch to the electrical box do not stay in their holes, so be careful to not lose your screws. Then there are a second set of screws to attach the wall plate bracket to the switch, and those are VERY short and do not have a way to stay in the holes, so it is very easy to drop/lose the screws.I was willing to give this company a go since so many people seemed to have good luck, but I think I'll pass going forward. Curious to see how long the first switch I bought will last, will report back if it goes bad.Ver másVer menos

One of my favorite switches
Love this switch!Retrofits into old homes with no neutral has simple one paddle operation so it fits in with decor and you don't need to give guests a 30 minute course on how to use it when they visit for the first time.Switches quickly locally and via zigbee and always reliableIt's a little bulky so it might be a tight squeeze in some boxesVer másVer menos

Can work directly with Home Assistant (ZHA with no Aqara hub)
Been using two of these for a couple of days, so far they're working well. (Far better than my older Tuya/Globe WiFi no-neutral switches). I was able to connect these directly to Home Assistant without a Aqara hub. I am just using the normal zigbee home automation (ZHA) setup. The only controls that ZHA exposes are the switch and a temp sensor (that doesn't appear accurate). No ability to update the firmware and no ability to change the small LED without the hub and app (it's off for me, which is fine). So far, it's good. I may check out Zigbee2MQTT later as it might allow for more options, but for now the switches work fine.Ver másVer menos

Great switch - no neutral but needs ground
I've had many smart switches over the years, so far this is by far my favourite.Great value for price.The kit comes with a very attractive exterior cover plate, which you can simply not use if you're in a multi-gang box, plus 3 wire nuts and 4 screws. It's not abnormally deep, like some other smart switches. It's shallower than a regular GFI receptacle.Installation is a straightforward replacement. Note, however, that you will need a ground, so check to make sure you have one. You might not if, for example, your switch is in a plastic old work/remodel box, and they didn't bother to run grounded Romex into it.The switch requires their Zigbee hub - it is not wifi. It says so in the description, but it's worth reiterating.It paired with my hub in 3 seconds. When commanded by Alexa or Google it switches within a second. When using the Aqara app it's as fast as using the physical switch - because it's local to your home system.That's one thing I really love about the Aqara ecosystem: control is local to your network by default and doesn't rely on a cloud server, except for extended features like remote control outside your home, or getting cloud data, like weather or sunrise times. So, if your internet goes down you can continue to run local automations and control your lights, for example, on a door or motion sensor or the app (if you're home).Ver másVer menos

Poorly made
Very poorly made. I ordered 2 of these and the casing is flimsy enough that when I tighten it into the wall it flexes and the switch button gets stuck, causing it to reset if you don’t notice it’s stuck. It also randomly would stop turning the lights off fully and pass power to them at a lower voltage (causing the lights to dim and flicker). When the first installed switch did this, I swapped it out with the second assuming the first was faulty and the second was identical - I returned them the next day.
