Works well for short power outages

We have suffered some short power outages (between 5 - 10 seconds) pretty often recently. It would take several minutes for our mesh router to get back online and several minutes for the satellites to then establish connectivity. This has cut the time to establish internet connection in half. I am considering purchasing a smaller UPS for the satellites.I would recommend this product.Ver más

Exactly what you need to keep your network up during outages

Bought this specifically to keep my router and modem running during power outages and it does the job perfectly. Living in Texas where grid reliability can be unpredictable, having a UPS on networking gear is just common sense — and this APC unit has already proven its worth multiple times.The 600VA/330W capacity is more than enough to power a typical router and modem setup, and the runtime is genuinely useful rather than just a few seconds of buffer. Happy to report automatic restart and no beep! APC UPS 600VA

Bought this to keep track of my smart home features and camera when power is out. I have blink cameras, and multiple water sensors, security sensors on the home. They are all battery powered and dependent on WiFi. Power doesn't go out often in my area, but when it does I completely loose WiFi and access to my cameras/sensors. This solves the problem, at least for a few hours.On initial unboxing there is a quality control receipt showing all parameters have been checked and passed. This is a good indication the company is aware of possible QC issues, and has made efforts to correct them. There is also an idiot proof sticker over the outlets reminding you to open the battery cover and plug in the battery prior to using the unit, as battery is shipped unplugged. The battery plug appeared very basic, dare I say cheap, it is nothing special just a standard blade terminal connector. Mine actually sparked at connector with initial connection, this did not appear to effect the function of the device. After plugging in the battery the green power light lit up, I plugged in my modem/router, and all my internet dependent hubs. Everything booted up as normal.2 things I was worried about:1. Would it beep/alarm the entire time when the power is out. The answer is no, at lease for the 600 unit, it does not beep when running on battery power. From other reviews it seems possible to change this to alarm if that is the desired function, and there is what appears to be a mute symbol next to the power button which I assume would be used to adjust this setting. That being said mine was set to not beep from the factory and I left it.2. Would it automatically power up when power is restored after complete battery drain. This was another situation that was crucial to work as needed for me. I travel frequently and if the power is out for long enough to drain the battery completely, I need it to power on automatically when power is restored. If it doesn't then my wifi will be down until I return to power it up, this is a deal breaker for me. Fortunately with my tests the battery lasted upwards of 4hrs running the modem and wireless router, streaming video on my TV.Ver más

Perfect for home router / cameras

I bought this UPS based on the features. 600va is the sweet spot for people who need basic protection for a few hours during a power event.I installed this unit in our family cabin where power can fluctuate frequently. I connected my DSL router, a small LED light and a Nest camera. I tested the runtime by waiting for the unit to become fully charged, then unplugged it with the three devices left on. I got about 3 hours of runtime before the alarm went off indicating a drained battery. That's adequate for me because it gives me time and protection needed to react to a prolonged power event. It also offers protection against intruders who might see the cameras and shut off power from the outside. Because Nest is cloud based, I am able to keep the protection should an intruder attempt to gain access by cutting the power. Another benefit of this configuration is that I am able to get an alert when the UPS goes on battery using the software built in. I have a small arduino connected to this UPS that has their power chute software installed and configured to email me should the unit go on battery. With this setup, I have time to react by driving to the cabin to take care of the situation. This is important in the winter months as we drive small space heaters to keep pipes from bursting. Now I have an alarm to indicate trouble, allowing me to visit the cabin and drain the water, etc.I did not give it 5 stars because I believe that these units should evolve and have WiFi on board to connect to a home router and perform basic alerts without having the need to use their software and another computer. If APC would invest some development $$ into making these more friendly to WIFi like many other devices today, it could generate more sales and would gain more customers. I would have liked to have had a simpler setup if the unit had WiFi on board and an app on my phone. Programmatically, it wouldn't be that difficult but I don't run their R&D department so I can't say for sure why they don't put more development thought into making these units smarter.Overall, the device does what it says it will do and it gives me a bit more peace of mind knowing it is there to protect our family vacation home. I like the size the portability of it as well which is a big plus. It's practically invisible!

Very nice little UPS that was super easy to hook up that meets my simple needs. Peace of mind when the lightning is flashing. Surge protection and battery backup made easy

The only battery backup brand I'm comfortable using

I have used APC battery backups for nearly as long as I've owned computers, and my first one was in the 80s - right about the time APC started their company. For a long time, whenever I needed to replace my UPS, APC was always at the top of the list of choices, but one time, I chose a different brand... and I've been back with APC for years again :D This particular UPS has a super easy battery replacement, which is great, although the unit is reasonably priced enough that buying a new one isn't a bad thing, if you need one. I trust the APC brand name, have never had any issues with all of the units I've purchased over the years, and I highly recommend them. I haven't had any need to contact customer service, so I have no idea how well they do that, but I think they'd be excellent at that too. I did not get paid for this review.Ver más

I bought this model 8 years ago

I bought this model eight years ago. It’s worked beautifully for almost all that time. For about a year, it would sound the alarm, I would reset it and it would be fine 5 months. The battery life is excellent. It finally bit the dust yesterday. It kept screaming at me and would not reset.I am replacing it with the same one since the battery was only $14 less than a brand new unit.I definitely I got my money’s worth!Ver más

Beware the wattage rating. This is inadequate for a desktop gaming PC.

I have a very old (10+ years) APC 500VA/300W UPS that wasn’t working anymore. When power is lost, it wouldn’t switch over to battery power anymore to keep my devices running. Everything would just turn off and I’d get a noisy alarm sounding from the UPS. So I bought this new 600VA/330W unit to replace it.Right away I noticed that the battery pack is smaller on this one compared to the old one. Odd, since this one has a 20% higher VA rating than my old one. I wouldn’t expect improved efficiency in the circuitry to explain that since it’s still the same lead acid battery tech. I looked over the factory test report that was taped to the outside of the UPS. Test date was from 4/4/21. Today is 2/25/22, so it was built almost 11 months ago.After connecting the positive battery terminal, I plugged it in, pressed the power button, and it immediately started sounding a constant alarm and flashing alternating red/green lights. The manual suggests this alarm indicates the battery is either not connected or needs to be charged. I checked the software on my connected computer and it reports the battery is at a little below 50% capacity and is charging. The alarm stopped sounding and the light stayed solid green once the charge went above 50%. Note that the alarm doesn’t sound if plugged in but the power button is turned off. After about 5-10 minutes, the alarm finally stopped going off. I guess I’d recommend plugging this in for a while to charge the battery first before turning it on and plugging devices into it.After finally getting the alarm to shut up, I fired up a game (Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries). As soon as the game starts taxing my graphics card, it pushed the power meter in the UPS software running in background on my second monitor to its max rating (330W for this model). An amber light came on the UPS and again with the loud constant alarm. Odd. My old APC unit with lower VA and wattage ratings didn’t complain when running all the same devices and running the same game. This seems to be an “improvement” to the newer design to protect the hardware from being overloaded, I assume. I should note that the manual didn’t specify what this alarm signal meant. I had to deduce it by observing the power meter and reproducing what things triggered it. Seems pretty clear it’s a system overload warning. Frankly, I’m surprised it didn’t just power itself off after alarming for a minute or two. It just kept my PC running, but it certainly let you know it did not like it. If they’re really worried about the overload condition and want to prevent hardware failures, it really should just shutdown and then flash a code.I went to the APC software settings and there is an option to disable alarms, so I tried turning that on. The UPS still sounded the alarm anyway when trying to run my game on my PC. With no way to disable the alarm, it looks like this UPS will get moved to my bedroom and I’ll use it for my new TV which is currently just plugged into a crappy power strip. I’ll need to find something with a much larger power rating to handle my PC. I would guess this would be fine for most laptops, though, as they generally consume a lot less power than a desktop gaming PC does.In hindsight, this probably explains why my old battery backup failed, after being overloaded regularly for years and me not paying attention to the wattage rating on my old UPS. My PC isn’t even a super-powered machine. It’s only a 450W power supply running the machine and I’m only drawing around 400W on it. Some gaming machines have 1000W power supplies running in them! Obviously, 400W+ whatever the monitors, speakers/amp, and WiFi router draw is well above the 330W rating on this device. That’s my fault and I should have checked the rating on this UPS before purchasing.

Excelente producto. funciona bien.Si no tiene cable de tierra de su casa o apartamento, indicador va a encender como rojo, pero no afecta la función de UPS

Been using this for over a week and its been great. Its good for like routers or modems

The UPS is great, been using it for over a week and throughout power outages and its been nothing but good. Its not the most powerful or not the most in battery life but its certainly enough for the average joe with their router. Its even good for a small amount of mobile power despite not being made for it, i wouldn't suggest it as you can risj damage to your unit but as for me i am careful so i am fine (i am not responsible for any and all damages made to your unit(s). Any and all careless acts carried out by you is yours and your fault only.) Ease of use is great, just connect the battery, plug it in and hit the power button. Turns right on and starts working immediately, some things to note. In the event of a long term outage, i would recommend checking in on it every now and then as the default alarm doesn't sound untie the battery is quite low. I would suggest either changing it or just checking in on it after a while. Other than that its a great little UPS and i would recommend it to others. One thing id like to see added is the ability for the ups to change the power button color depending on the SOC (state of charge) would be great to see that instead of a blinking green button till it starts beeping at you.Ver más
