Best live Performance in years!

As much as I liked Betts and his playing, him and Greg didn't get on, particularly after Greg and others in the band got sober. Betts was still drinking, and they couldn't tolerate him anymore. Since Duane died, Betts could just never fill Duane's shoes, particularly alone, and even when Chuck Leavell was filling on piano as a "second guitar". I saw a concert with that line-up, and it wasn't even the ABB in my opinion, plus Greg was loaded out of his mind.With Warren Haynes return and Derek maturing to his best playing ever, this has been the best line-up the band's had since Duane. As far as the concert goes, this is the way a concert should be filmed, opposed to, say, Paul McCartney's concerts: not enough focus on musicianship, and way TOO much unnecessary audience "filler", interviews, etc. In this concert the band's never been tighter, and I mean EVERYONE in the band! Greg's voice is BACK again, and Warren and Derek tear it up together and separately, and the rhythm section, well, what can you say?This DVD is a MUST for ABB fans or newcomers. If "Live At The Fillmore" is one of your favorite albums

Then you've got to buy this DVD. I grew up listening to the Fillmore album for years, and actually owned it initially in 8 track format (that shows my age). I've followed the Allman Brothers through the years and I've never felt that they returned to the magic they had after Duane tragically died. However after watching the DVD I have no doubt that the magic is back.I always cringe when people refer the Brothers as a "jam band" because most of the modern so called "jam bands" seem to mindlessly riff and wear out the same pentatonic scale in different keys. Duane Allman was a genius and I never thought I would hear a player that could match him in this format. With this lineup the band has returned to form with a skill and mastery of the blues that is phenominal.From the start it's clear that Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are a spectacular pair of guitar players. Trucks seems to prefer slide and plays with a reckless abandon that stunned me. Haynes is a more traditional lead player but has an absolute mastery of the techniques and skills necessay to be a great player. The band weaves in and out of songs from their early albums in the 70's to material from their most recent CD "Hittin The Note". Quite frankly I think this band is even better than the original lineup.I would say I was slightly disappointed with the video, but I enjoyed the audio mix, especially the way they brought Greg's keyboard into the sound.These guys can play, and for an old fan like me this was an absolutely wonderful experience.Ver más

Hitting That Note In Concert!

This is an amazing band. At this point in time, the ABB has finally gone thru the full circle. If you close your eyes, the slide guitar that Derek Trucks plays matches the style that Duanne had mastered so skillfully. Derek must have done his homework by analyzing Duanne's tracks. Warren Haynes shines as usual. In my opinion, Warren gives Gregg some competitive accomplished vocals to add to the ABB arsenal. Marc Quinones "ices the cake" as he improvizes on percussion as Jaimoe and Butch lay down the heartbeat of ABB that we've heard thru the decades and have come to expect and idolize.Oteil Burbridge drives the band in a way that I think has the flavor of Barry Oakley's melodic bass lines. As you might be able to tell, I've been an Allman Brothers fan since the beginning. Gregg and Duanne got their beginning success as the Allman Joys, starting out playing sock hops and bars in the Delmar Loop area of St. Louis. Gregg has shown his masterful vocal and keyboard abilities have not been lost, and stand the test of time with 50 years of performance under his belt. Yes, he was been performing publicly since the mid-sixties starting with the Allman Joys, metastasizing into the Hour Glass out on the west coast, and then called back to be the last piece of the "puzzle" that Duanne assembled with the Allman Brothers Band in 1968. Many others have copied the ingredients of ABB, but there is only one ABB. This edition of the ABB is all business that does justice to the late Barry Oakley's phrase of "Hitting the Note", a state of excellence that is only experienced at the top of the mountain!Ver más

A Good Concert By The Allman Brothers

The first shipment of this product had to be sent back. The two DVDs were scratched. I don't know why anyone would package it the way they did. It was not Amazon's fault, but rather the manufacturer of the product. There was only one place in the case to secure two CDs on top of each other. When I received them they were rattling around in the case and were scratched up. I returned them. I did receive a new shipment with them actually packaged in a different case. Took awhile for this to happen, but Amazon came across.As for the concert itself, I was very pleased with it. The performance was very good and there was 21 songs on the first DVD. There was only one that drug on way too long for my preference, but they seemed to be getting into it. I think it was "Instrumental Illness". The second CD had some bonus tracks and interviews. I normally don't watch that kind of stuff, but it was a nice addition to the whole thing.All in all, I have been a fan of the Allman Brothers for many years and this was not a disappointment.Ver más

Live at Beacon Theatre Allman Brothers

This DVD on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 50 in my book. The band never sounded better. For once the camera man focused on the band and not the audience. The selection of songs was wonderful; and well done. The audio was great. The picture was fine too. This is a great souvenir to have especially in light of the fact that Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are leaving the band after this year. There is a second disc that contains an encore of One Way Out, a nice little impromptu performance in the dressing room of Derek and Warren playing Old Friend, and the rest is all interviews which is informative with all members of the band, individually. I highly recommend this DVD. Hope this recommendation helps.Ver más

Thank you Allmans

Wow,What an incredible DVD. I had the pleasure of seeing the band on their Brothers and Sisters tour in the early 70's and was blown away with their ability to create layers of music that simply flowed thru you. This DVD is in so many ways taking that music and adding the next level of greatness to it. I've, since the 70s seen the boys in the 90's (not to good, with them sounding more like a country band) and again two years ago where I was blown away. Since that show I've bought both Warren Haynes, Gov't Mule Live Mullrnium and Derek Trucks latest live album. To get more of the incredible guitar work into my system. As good as those two albums are they simply do not hold a candle to what these two do with the Allmans. I'm sure they would tell you the same if you asked them and honestly more or less do tell you this in the interviews after the concert.If you like the Allmans (not the Ramblin Man window) you will LOVE this DVD. I have a number of Music DVD's and this is by far the best. Keep it in perspective for yourself, as I still consider the Allmans Live at the Filmore the best Live Album of all time.Ver más

DAS IST MAGIE !!!

Eigentlich wollte ich nur mal "schnell reinhören/-sehen" - Pech gehabt, ich konnte nicht mehr von der Doppel-DVD weg bis beide Scheiben von A-Z durchgesehen und -gehört waren. - Wow, it's great, unbelievable, fantastic - in a word: it's magic !!!Kaum in Worte zu fassen, was für ein Musikspektakel die ABB da während fast 3 Stunden bieten. Diese Band ist derzeit auf ihrem absoluten Höhepunkt (ich wage zu behaupten, sie ist heute besser als anno 1969/70...). Die "Chemie" zwischen den einzelnen Bandmitgliedern stimmt, jeder musiziert mit Freude und perfektem Können. Ganz nach dem Motto "Einer für Alle - Alle für Einen"! Das Timing ist unglaublich, während Butch Trucks die Trommeln mit allen Vieren bearbeitet und dabei fast von seinem Hocker abhebt - sitzt ihm gegenüber Jaimoe, stoïsch ruhig aber in perfekter Ergänzung zu Butch - er spielt sozusagen die Lücken die Butch hinterlässt. Percussionist Marc Quinones setzt dann dem ganzen noch das Sahnehäubchen auf. Bassist Oteil Burbridge steht dem in Nichts nach und zaubert sagenhafte Bassläufe zum Geschehen bei. Band-Namensgeber, Songwriter, Leadsänger und Tastenmann Gregory (Gregg) Allman ist bestens bei Stimme und bringt mit seinen Akkorden ein wunderbar tragendes Element in die Songs/Jams ein. Die beiden Leadgitarristen sind derzeit wohl beide unter die 10 weltbesten Gitarristen einzustufen. Warren Haynes spielt Gitarre auf Top-Niveau, singt bei einigen Songs die Leadvocals und schreibt ebenfalls Songs für ABB. Derek Trucks ist der jüngste Spross in diesem 3-Generationen-Team, aber er darf ohne zu zögern im gleichen Atemzug mit Eric Clapten genannt werden (nach meinem Empfinden spielt er sogar besser als der Gitarrengott). Mit Fug und Recht ist Onkel Butch Trucks stolz auf seinen jungen Verwandten... Die beiden (Lead-)Gitarristen harmonieren perfekt und sind das eigentliche Herz des ABB-Sounds.Etwas schwer fällt es mir, einzelne Stücke aus dem Konzert herauszuheben - es sind alle, ohne Ausnahme, perfekt. Etwas ganz spezielles stellt die Jam "Instrumental Illness" dar. So wurde ich in meinem ganzen Leben noch nie von einem Rhythmus gepackt und jedes der Bandmitglieder hat hier Freiraum für ein Solo. Kalte und heisse Schauer jagen einem den Rücken rauf und runter und es "groovt" dass es eine Freude ist! Es werden viele Stücke von der neuesten CD, "Hittin' the Note", gespielt. Sie passen sehr gut zu den älteren Titeln wie Whipping Post, Melissa u.v.a. - überhaupt kommt das Konzert (obwohl an 2 Abenden aufgenommen) wie aus einem Guss daher.Auf DVD 2 ist, nebst anderen Features, auch ein sehr unterhaltsames Interview mit allen Bandmitgliedern in Spielfilmlänge. Da spürt man förmlich, dass diese Mannen nicht nur um des Kommerzes Willen zusammenspielen - sie sind Freunde, haben Freude am Musizieren und Jammen und der geniale Warren Haynes schafft es , die doch recht grossen Altersunterschiede zwischen einzelnen Bandmitgliedern auf ideale Art zu überbrücken. Dieses Interview ist sehr persönlich und man merkt, dass keines der Bandmitglieder an "Star-Allüren" oder ähnlichen Übeln leidet. Sie sind alle sehr natürlich, spontan, offen und vor allem menschlich!<Ein letzter Tip: Kauft diese DVD, dann werdet Ihr all die Freude, den Musikgenuss und den Augenschmaus, die sie bereitet selbst erleben und müsst Euch nicht länger mit meinem Geschreibe herumschlagen :o))Es grüsst Euch herzlich, ein Allman Brothers Band - Fan !

DVD incontournable riche - groupe en grande forme

C'est le DVD le plus connu d'ABB et peut-être le plus distribué. C'est aussi le DVD qui correspond à la promotion de l'ultime album studio 'Hittin the Note' de 2003 . De mon point de vue, c'est une aubaine, car cela coincide avec la meilleure période du groupe depuis sa reformation en 1990. Il va de soi que le choix du répertoire du DVD n'en est que plus riche.On retrouve des morceaux aussi bien des débuts que parmi les derniers albums. Bien sûr, la sélection des morceaux sera toujours un sujet de discussion sans fin, mais le résultat est top. Les musiciens sont au top et dynamiques (clin d'oeil aux membres originaux...). C'est du ABB ! Aucun autre groupe au monde n'a aussi bien créé et interprété des morceaux empreints de rock sudiste, de blues, de jazz et aussi d'ambiance country. Mais attention pas d'esbrouffe ici. Les instruments sont menés à leur paroxysme par des musiciens passionnés qui savent de quoi ils ... "jouent" et qui prennent visiblement du plaisir à jouer en semble. Tout s'enchaîne - mélodies et soli endiablés- sans fausse note avec passion et professionnalisme. Malgré la longueur et la complexité tchnique des morceaux, la mise en place est redoutable et terriblement efficace. Rien à dire de plus. C'est du ABB ! UNIQUE !Je me permets par ailleurs un conseil : Vous pouvez complétez ce concert du 26 mars 2003 avec celui enregistré en 2009, soit 6 ans plus tard jour pour jour pour célébrer le '40th Anniversary' du groupe - toujours enregistré au Beacon Theatre de New York et dernier témoignage live en DVD du groupe. Si vous aimez ABB, vous ne serez pas déçu. Par contre attention, ce DVD du '40th Anniversary' n'est dispo qu'en zone 1 donc lisible que sur un lecteur DVD US ou dézoné (lecteur DVD d'environ 30€ disponibles sur Amazon ou ailleurs). Vous aurez alors les plus beaux témoignages live disponibles d'un groupe aujourd'hui disparu. Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de Blu-Ray, mais c'est déjà bien de disposer de ces enregistrements inoubliables.INCONTOURNABLE pour les passionnés de musique authentique "non frelatée" !Ver más
